EDD Paid Family Leave application error - expired ID, what to do?

Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my Paid Family Leave application. My driver's license and passport are both expired, and I'm not sure what to do. I have my Social Security card and birth certificate, but the application keeps giving me an error. Has anyone dealt with this before? Any advice on how to proceed or what alternative documents I can use?

Ugh, I feel your pain! I went through something similar last year. Have you tried calling the EDD office directly? They might be able to guide you through the process or offer alternatives.

I've been trying to call them for days, but I can never get through. It's so frustrating! 😤

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold that way.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

I was skeptical too, but I can confirm it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

I get it, but honestly, it was worth every penny for me. Time is money, ya know?

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your documents (SS card, birth certificate) 2. Write a letter explaining your situation 3. Include copies of your expired ID 4. Mail everything to the EDD office 5. Follow up with a phone call in a week I had to do this when my wallet was stolen. It's a pain, but it works!

Thank you so much for the detailed steps! This is really helpful. How long did the whole process take for you?

It took about 3 weeks total, but your mileage may vary. Just keep following up!

have you tried turning it off and on again? 🤣 jk jk. but seriously, sometimes clearing your browser cache or trying a different browser can help with those pesky online forms.

This is why the system is broken. We shouldnt have to jump through hoops just to get the benefits we deserve. Its time for a complete overhaul of the EDD!

Preach! 🙌 The whole system is a joke. We need to organize and demand change.

Calm down, Bernie. The system works fine for most people. OP just has a unique situation.

I heard they're updating the online system soon. Might be worth waiting a few days to see if that fixes the error you're getting.

Source? I haven't seen anything about an update.

My cousin works for the state. Take it with a grain of salt, I guess.

Whatever you do, DON'T mail in your original documents! I made that mistake and it took months to get them back. Always send copies!

Have you considered getting a state ID card? It's usually faster than renewing a driver's license and might solve your problem.

That's a great idea! I didn't even think of that. I'll look into it tomorrow.

I actually went through this exact same situation last month! Here's what worked for me: I used my Social Security card and birth certificate as primary documents, then added a utility bill and bank statement as supporting identity documents. The key is to call the technical support line (not the main EDD line) - they have a separate number for website issues. Also, try applying during off-peak hours like early morning or late evening when the system is less busy. The error might be due to high traffic rather than your documents. Good luck!
