EDD PFL claim stuck in limbo - can't reach anyone on phone for weeks. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a frustrating situation with my second paid family medical leave claim. I've been trying to reach EDD for weeks now, but I keep hitting a wall. Every time I call, I just get a recording about high call volumes, no matter what time of day it is. I even got a letter in the mail asking me to call back, but it's the same useless number. This is for a continuous leave that was supposed to be from mid-December to late December last year. Has anyone else been stuck in this limbo? Any advice on how to actually talk to a human being at EDD?

Ugh, I feel your pain. EDD is a nightmare to deal with. I was in the same boat a few months ago. Have you tried calling right when they open? Sometimes that works, but it's still a crapshoot.

Yeah, I've tried that. No luck so far. It's like they don't want us to reach them 🙄

Pro tip: keep calling and hang up if you get the recording. Eventually you'll get through. Took me like 50 tries but it worked!

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They sometimes have direct lines to EDD and can help push things along.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site called claimyr.com. It's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to your phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

I was skeptical too, but I tried it and it actually worked. Saved me hours of frustration.

20 bucks tho? That's kinda steep just to talk to someone who should be available for free.

I get that, but for me, it was worth it to finally get my issue resolved. Time is money, ya know?

Here's what worked for me: 1. Call early in the morning, like 7:55 AM. 2. If you get the recording, hang up and redial immediately. 3. Keep doing this until you get in the queue. 4. Once in the queue, DO NOT HANG UP no matter how long it takes. 5. Have all your info ready when you finally get through. It's a pain, but persistence is key. Good luck!

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update info there without actually contacting you. Worth a shot if you haven't already.

I'm telling you, the system is DESIGNED to be frustrating. They hope people will just give up. Don't let them win! Keep pushing!

Hey OP, quick question - did you file your second claim separately or as a continuation of the first one? Sometimes that can affect how it's processed.

I filed it as a separate claim since there was a gap between the two leaves. Should I have done it differently?

Ah, that might be part of the issue. Sometimes they prefer it to be filed as a continuation if it's for the same reason. Might be worth asking about when you finally get through.

idk if this helps but I had luck emailing them through the contact form on their website. took like a week to get a response but at least I didn't have to deal with the phone nightmare
