EDD Paid Family Leave nightmare: Can't reach anyone, account shows error. Help!

I've been trying to get my Paid Family Leave pay from EDD since December. It's been a nightmare. I've called countless times but can't get through to anyone. My EDD account portal now shows an error in processing. I even tried visiting an EDD office, but they told me Paid Family Leave doesn't have a physical office and I should just keep calling the same number. I'm at my wits' end. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to actually reach a human being at EDD?

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been in the same boat with my unemployment claim. It's like they purposely make it impossible to reach anyone. Have you tried calling right when they open? I've heard that can sometimes work.

Yeah, I've tried that. No luck. It's either busy signals or getting disconnected after waiting for hours. This system is so broken 😡

Pro tip: call at 7:59am and keep redialing until you get through. It's worked for me before, but it takes patience and a lot of coffee ☕

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it honestly saved me weeks of frustration. The $20 was worth it to finally get my claim sorted out. Plus, I didn't have to sit on hold all day.

Harold Oh

How long did it take for them to get through? And did you actually talk to a real person?

It took about 2 hours for them to get through, but I didn't have to do anything. They called me when an agent was on the line. And yes, it was a real EDD rep who helped me resolve my issue!

Have you tried reaching out to your local state representative? Sometimes they can help push things through when you're stuck in EDD limbo.

This is why I always tell people to have an emergency fund. You can't rely on the government to help you when you need it. 🤷‍♂️

Wow, way to victim blame. Not everyone has the luxury of saving up months of expenses. Check your privilege, dude. 🙄

I'm just being realistic. The system is broken, so you gotta look out for yourself.

Here's what worked for me after 3 months of trying: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your calls, emails, and attempts to contact EDD. 2. File a complaint with the EDD directly through their website. 3. Contact your state assembly member and state senator. Provide them with your documentation. 4. If that doesn't work, file a complaint with the state ombudsman. 5. As a last resort, consider reaching out to local media. Sometimes public pressure can get things moving. It's a long process, but persistence is key. Don't give up!

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start documenting everything. Did you use any specific format for your complaint to the EDD?

I just wrote a clear, concise letter explaining my situation, including dates and times of my attempts to contact them. Be polite but firm. Good luck!

lol welcome to the wonderful world of california bureaucracy 🤡 where nothing works and everyone's always on lunch break

Has anyone tried faxing their documents? I know it sounds archaic, but I've heard some people have had success with that method.

Laugh all you want, but sometimes old school methods work when everything else fails!

I'm an ex-EDD employee (don't hate me lol). Here's some insider advice: - The best time to call is Tuesday-Thursday, avoid Mondays and Fridays - If you get through to anyone, even if it's the wrong department, ask them to transfer you instead of hanging up - Be super nice to the person who answers, they deal with angry people all day and are more likely to go the extra mile if you're kind - Have all your info ready: claim number, dates, any correspondence you've received - If all else fails, request a callback. It might take a while, but they do get to them eventually Hope this helps someone!

This is gold! Thank you so much for sharing your insider knowledge. I'll definitely try these tips.

Why'd you leave EDD? Too much drama? 👀

Let's just say it wasn't the most... efficient place to work. But I learned a lot!

I went through something similar last year with my PFL claim. What finally worked for me was using the "Contact EDD" form on their website multiple times - I submitted it every few days with my case details. It took about 2 weeks, but someone eventually called me back. Also, try calling the general EDD number (1-800-300-5616) and pressing 1 for English, then 2 for employer, then 4 for other - sometimes that gets you to a different queue that's less busy. Hang in there, it's frustrating but you'll get through eventually! 💪
