EDD PFL claim dates changed without notice - 6/1 to 9/11. What to do?
Hey everyone, I'm having an issue with my Paid Family Leave claim. I submitted it with a start date of 6/1/24, but when I checked the status, it shows 9/11/24 instead. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I'm really confused about why the dates would change without my knowledge. Any advice on what I should do next?

I found a way to solve incorrect Paid Family Leave dates, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTMl4S_TROQ

Ugh, that sucks! I had a similar issue with my disability claim last year. Have you tried calling the EDD office? They might be able to explain why the dates changed.

I've been trying to call them for days, but I can never get through. It's so frustrating! 😤

Pro tip: call right when they open. I usually have better luck getting through that way.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a shot tomorrow morning. 🙏

This happened to me too! Turns out there was a glitch in their system that was messing up start dates for a bunch of people. You definitely need to get in touch with them ASAP to get it fixed.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate after trying for weeks to get through. It saved me so much time and frustration.

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken. 🤦♂️

I get it, but for me, it was worth it. I was losing way more than $20 in missed work trying to call them myself.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Take screenshots of your original claim submission and the current status showing the wrong date. 2. Try to contact EDD through multiple channels - phone, email, and their online portal if possible. 3. If you can't get through, consider reaching out to your local state representative. They often have direct lines to EDD and can help escalate your case. 4. While waiting for a response, gather any supporting documents that prove your intended start date (like doctor's notes or employer correspondence). 5. Be persistent but polite when you do get through. Sometimes it's just a simple data entry error that can be fixed quickly. 6. If all else fails, you might need to file a formal appeal. There should be instructions on how to do this on the EDD website. Remember, you're not alone in this. The system can be frustrating, but don't give up! Good luck!

have you checked if theres any holidays or weekends that might have affected the start date? sometimes they adjust for that

That's a good point, I hadn't thought of that. But the difference is over 3 months, so I don't think that's it in this case. Thanks for the suggestion though!

This is why I always tell people to keep copies of EVERYTHING they submit to EDD. You never know when you'll need to prove what you originally sent in.

Have you tried checking your spam folder? Sometimes important EDD emails end up there. They might have sent you a notification about the date change.

Just checked and no luck. But thanks for the suggestion! I'll make sure to keep an eye on my spam folder from now on.

plot twist: maybe you accidentally typed the wrong date when you submitted your claim? 🤔

Lol, I wish it was that simple! But I triple-checked everything before submitting. Plus, I have a screenshot of my original submission with the correct date.

Ah well, it was worth a shot! Guess the EDD is just being its usual chaotic self then. 🤷♂️
