Direct deposit banking info error when switching from disability to PFL - can't verify account
So frustrated right now! I just ended my pregnancy disability yesterday and am trying to file for baby bonding PFL. My SDI payments were coming through direct deposit no problem for 6 weeks. But when I tried entering the EXACT SAME banking info for my PFL claim, I keep getting an error message saying "cannot verify banking information." I've triple-checked my account number and routing number and everything is correct. Has anyone else dealt with this weird glitch when transitioning from disability to PFL? Did you have to get paper checks instead? I really don't want to wait for mail delivery with a newborn at home!

the same thing happened to me in December! so annoying. i think its some kind of system glitch when you transition from pregnancy disability to baby bonding. i ended up just selecting paper checks because i got tired of trying to make it work

•Ugh that's what I was afraid of. Did the paper checks come pretty quickly at least? I'm stressing about bills since there's already going to be a gap between my last SDI payment and first PFL payment.

This is a known issue with the EDD system that happens during the transition from SDI to PFL. There are two different ways to handle it: 1. Try waiting 24-48 hours and then entering your banking information again. Sometimes the system needs time to fully process the closure of your disability claim before it will accept new direct deposit info for PFL. 2. If that doesn't work, try entering your account information with no dashes or spaces anywhere - sometimes the formatting causes verification errors even though the numbers are correct. If neither of those work, you can always start with paper checks and then update to direct deposit later through your online account after your claim is established.

•Thank you for these tips! I'll definitely try waiting a day and then entering the info again. If that doesn't work, I'll try the no-dashes approach. I really hope one of these works because I don't want to deal with going to the bank with a newborn!

Omg this exact thing happened to me!!! I was soooo annoyed. I called EDD like 50 times trying to get through to fix it and kept getting disconnected. Finally I just gave up and took the stupid paper checks. Took almost 2 weeks to get the first one. The whole system is a mess if you ask me.

•the EDD system is literally designed to make everything as difficult as possible i swear. they probably save millions by "accidentally" having these glitches that force people onto paper checks.

i had this same issue last year. try logging out completely, clearing your browser cache, and trying again with a different browser. that worked for me after like 5 tries. the EDD website is super glitchy especially during the transition from disability to PFL.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'll try using Chrome instead of Safari and see if that makes any difference. These technical glitches are the last thing I need with a 2-week old!

I work with EDD claims professionally, and this is unfortunately a common issue during the transition from pregnancy disability to baby bonding PFL. The direct deposit verification system sometimes gets stuck in a loop where it sees your previous claim information but can't verify the new one. One solution that often works is to call the EDD technical support line and have them manually clear your previous direct deposit information from the system. Then wait 24 hours before entering it again. The problem is actually getting through to someone at EDD, which we all know is nearly impossible these days with wait times often exceeding 3-4 hours.

•Thank you for explaining what's happening! That makes sense but is super frustrating. Do you know if there's a specific technical support number that might be better to call than the main EDD number? I've been trying the general number with no luck.

When I had this problem transitioning from pregnancy disability to PFL baby bonding, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an EDD agent quickly. They have this service where they call EDD for you and connect you when an agent picks up. Saved me hours of hold time and the agent was able to reset my direct deposit verification on the spot. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 The agent told me this happens a lot and is a quick fix on their end, but impossible to resolve through the online system.

•does this actually work? i spent like 3 hours on hold last week and eventually gave up

just my two cents but why is it so hard for edd to make a system that actually works?? every single person i know who has had a baby deals with this garbage transitioning from disability to pfl. like they know thousands of people do this EVERY DAY and they cant fix the system?? i bet if their own paychecks were getting messed up they'd fix it real quick lol

•The EDD system was built decades ago and uses extremely outdated technology. During the pandemic, they actually had to bring retired COBOL programmers back to work because so few people know how to code in that language anymore. The entire system needs to be rebuilt from scratch, but that would cost billions and take years.

UPDATE: I tried what many of you suggested - waited 24 hours, cleared my cache, and tried again in a different browser. It still didn't work. I finally got through to an EDD rep who told me there was a "flag" on my account because I had direct deposit for SDI, and they needed to clear it manually before I could set up direct deposit for PFL. Once they did that, I was able to enter my banking info successfully! Apparently this is a super common issue they're "working on fixing" (sure they are). For anyone else dealing with this, definitely try to get an actual person on the phone - it's the only way to fix it.

•glad you got it fixed! how long did it take you to get through to someone? i need to call them about my certification issue but i'm dreading the hold time with a 6 week old baby

•It took me about 2.5 hours on hold, but I called right when they opened at 8am which seemed to help. I actually used the Claimyr service that @Aisha Ali mentioned - cost me $20 but totally worth it to not have to sit on hold with a crying baby! They called me back within 20 minutes when an agent was available.

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! Just finished my pregnancy disability and trying to file for PFL but getting the same "cannot verify banking information" error. It's so frustrating because like you said, the direct deposit worked perfectly fine for SDI. Thanks for posting this - at least now I know I'm not alone and there are some solutions to try. I'm going to attempt the 24-hour wait and different browser approach first, then maybe try that Claimyr service if I can't get through to EDD directly. This system really needs an overhaul!

•@Malik Jenkins I m'going through the exact same thing right now! Just had my baby 3 weeks ago and dealing with this banking verification nightmare. From reading all these responses, it seems like calling EDD is really the only reliable way to fix it, even though it s'a huge pain. The Claimyr service that @Aisha Ali mentioned sounds promising if you don t want'to spend hours on hold. Let me know what ends up working for you - I m probably'going to try that route too since I can barely find time to shower with a newborn, let alone sit on hold for 3 hours!

This is such a common and frustrating issue! I went through the exact same thing when transitioning from pregnancy disability to PFL last year. The banking verification error is definitely a known system bug that EDD hasn't bothered to fix. What worked for me was calling EDD (took forever to get through) and having them manually clear the "flag" on my account from the previous SDI direct deposit. Once they did that, I could enter my banking info without any issues. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through these hoops during such a stressful time with a newborn, but unfortunately calling seems to be the most reliable solution. The Claimyr service mentioned by others might be worth the cost to avoid the brutal hold times!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! It's both reassuring and infuriating to know this is such a widespread problem. I'm a new member here but found this thread because I'm dealing with the exact same banking verification error after transitioning from pregnancy disability to PFL. Reading everyone's responses, it sounds like calling EDD is really the only reliable fix, even though their phone system is a nightmare. The fact that this is such a common issue that they know about but haven't fixed is just ridiculous - like we don't have enough to stress about with a newborn! I think I'm going to try the Claimyr service too since I can't afford to spend hours on hold right now.

This is so helpful to read! I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant and will be filing for pregnancy disability soon, then transitioning to PFL for baby bonding. After reading all these experiences, I'm already dreading dealing with this banking verification issue. It sounds like it's almost guaranteed to happen during the transition. Should I just plan on having to call EDD to get it fixed, or are there any preventive steps I can take when setting up my initial SDI claim to avoid this problem later? Also, has anyone tried setting up direct deposit AFTER their PFL claim is approved instead of during the initial application? I'm wondering if that might bypass the verification glitch.

•Welcome to the community! Based on everything I've read in this thread, it seems like this banking verification issue is pretty much inevitable when transitioning from SDI to PFL - it's a system glitch that EDD knows about but hasn't fixed. I don't think there's really a way to prevent it during your initial SDI setup since the problem happens on their backend when they try to verify banking info for the new PFL claim. Setting up direct deposit after approval might work, but from what @Zara Shah mentioned earlier, you can update to direct deposit later through your online account once the claim is established. That could be a good backup plan! Honestly though, it sounds like most people end up having to call EDD anyway to get the flag "cleared" from their account. The Claimyr service that @Aisha Ali recommended seems like it might be worth budgeting for since dealing with EDD phone lines with a newborn sounds absolutely miserable.

I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm currently dealing with this exact same banking verification error after transitioning from pregnancy disability to PFL. My SDI direct deposits worked flawlessly for 8 weeks, but now the system won't accept the same banking info for my PFL claim. It's incredibly frustrating to deal with this technical glitch when you're already exhausted with a 3-week-old baby. Reading everyone's experiences here, it sounds like this is basically a guaranteed issue that EDD refuses to fix. I'm going to try the 24-hour wait approach first, then the different browser suggestion, but it seems like calling EDD (or using that Claimyr service) is probably going to be necessary. Thank you all for sharing your solutions - it's reassuring to know I'm not alone in this mess!

•I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now too! Just started my PFL claim after finishing pregnancy disability and getting that same frustrating "cannot verify banking information" error. It's so stressful when you're already overwhelmed with a newborn and need those payments to come through. From reading all the responses in this thread, it really seems like this is just a known system bug that EDD hasn't bothered to fix. I'm going to try the browser clearing and waiting 24 hours approach first, but honestly it sounds like most people end up having to call EDD anyway. The Claimyr service that several people mentioned might be worth the cost to avoid sitting on hold for hours with a crying baby. Thanks for posting about this - it's both frustrating and comforting to know so many others have dealt with this same glitch!

I just went through this exact same issue last month! The banking verification error when switching from SDI to PFL is SO common - it's ridiculous that EDD hasn't fixed this known glitch yet. What finally worked for me was calling the EDD disability customer service line (1-800-480-3287) right at 8 AM when they open and explaining that I needed the direct deposit "flag" cleared from my previous SDI claim. The agent was able to fix it in about 5 minutes once I got through. I know the hold times are brutal, but it really seems to be the only reliable solution. Don't waste too much time trying the browser/cache clearing tricks - from what I've seen, this is a backend system issue that only they can resolve on their end. Hang in there!

•Thank you so much for sharing that phone number and the specific time to call! I'm new to this community but dealing with this exact banking verification nightmare right now. It's my first time going through the SDI to PFL transition and I was starting to panic thinking something was wrong with my bank account. Reading through this entire thread has been both frustrating (that this is such a widespread known issue) and reassuring (that there are solutions). I'm definitely going to try calling at 8 AM sharp with that number you provided. The fact that they can fix it in 5 minutes once you get through just shows how ridiculous it is that this glitch exists in the first place! Hopefully EDD will actually fix this system issue eventually so other new parents don't have to deal with this stress.

I'm currently going through this same frustrating issue right now! Just finished my pregnancy disability last week and trying to file for PFL, but keep getting that "cannot verify banking information" error even though my direct deposit worked perfectly for SDI. Reading through everyone's experiences here is both helpful and infuriating - it's crazy that this is such a widespread known problem that EDD just hasn't bothered to fix. I'm going to try calling that 1-800-480-3287 number that @Carter Holmes mentioned at 8 AM sharp tomorrow. If that doesn't work out, I might have to bite the bullet and use the Claimyr service since sitting on hold for hours with a 2-week-old doesn't sound feasible. Thank you all for sharing your solutions - it's such a relief to know I'm not alone in dealing with this technical nightmare during an already stressful time!

•I'm so sorry you're dealing with this too! As a newcomer to this community, I just want to say how incredibly helpful this entire thread has been. I'm currently pregnant with my first baby and will be going through the SDI to PFL transition in a few months, so reading about everyone's experiences with this banking verification glitch is both eye-opening and frustrating. It's absolutely ridiculous that EDD has such a well-documented system bug that affects so many new parents during an already overwhelming time. The fact that they can fix it in 5 minutes once you get through to an agent just proves how preventable this whole mess is. I really hope the phone number @Carter Holmes shared works for you! And honestly, the Claimyr service sounds like it might be worth every penny to avoid the stress of endless hold times with a newborn. Please update us on what ends up working - I m'sure other expecting parents following this thread would benefit from knowing the most effective solution. Wishing you the best of luck getting this resolved quickly!
