6 weeks no PFL pay, can't reach EDD rep. Maxed out CCs & borrowed for rent. Help!
I've been waiting for my Paid Family Leave (PFL) payments for 6 weeks now and haven't been able to reach anyone. I'm completely out of money, maxed out my credit cards, and had to borrow from family just to pay rent. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on how to get through to a representative?

Ugh, I'm in the same boat. It's been 8 weeks for me and still nothing. The system is so broken 😡

•8 weeks?! That's insane. Have you tried contacting your local representative? Sometimes they can help push things through.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. After weeks of trying, I finally got through and got my issue resolved. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do 🤷♀️

Here's what worked for me: 1. Call right when they open at 8:00 AM 2. If you get the "too many callers" message, hang up and immediately redial 3. Keep doing this until you get in the queue 4. Once in the queue, DO NOT HANG UP 5. It took me about 2 hours of hold time, but I finally got through Hope this helps someone! Good luck!

•This is solid advice. I've heard the first hour is the best time to call. Gonna try this tomorrow morning!

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes there's info there about why your claim is delayed. Could be missing documents or something.

This is why we need universal basic income. The system is clearly not working for people when they need it most. 😤

Pro tip: if you can't get through on the main line, try calling some of the other EDD numbers. Sometimes you can get transferred to PFL from there. Here's a list of numbers I've used: 1. UI Claims Support: 1-800-300-5616 2. SDI: 1-800-480-3287 3. Employer Line: 1-888-745-3886 Good luck!

have you tried faxing your documents? sometimes that gets faster results than mailing or uploading online

•Faxing? What year is it, 1995? 😂 But seriously, I'll try anything at this point. Thanks for the suggestion!

I feel for you, OP. The stress of waiting for benefits is real. Make sure you're taking care of your mental health too. This stuff can really wear you down.

Anybody else notice that the EDD website is always "under maintenance" when you actually need to use it? 🙄

•omg yes! It's like they know exactly when I'm gonna log in and shut it down just to mess with me 😅

Hey OP, what was the reason for your PFL claim? I'm about to file one for bonding with my newborn and I'm scared after reading all these horror stories 😰

•Mine was for taking care of a sick family member. Congrats on the new baby! Hope your experience is smoother than mine.

I'm so sorry you're going through this! I had a similar experience last year - waited 5 weeks for my PFL payments while caring for my mom after her surgery. What finally worked for me was contacting my state assemblyperson's office. They have caseworkers who specifically help with EDD issues. It took about a week after I contacted them, but they got my payments released. You can find your representative on the CA legislature website. Also, document everything - dates you called, case numbers, etc. It helps when you finally get someone on the phone. Hang in there! 💪

•This is really helpful advice! I never thought about contacting my assemblyperson's office. Do you remember roughly how long the whole process took once they got involved? I'm getting desperate here and willing to try anything at this point.
