Worried about disability extension - form submitted 2 weeks ago, no response. Need help with bills and meds. Any advice?
Hey everyone, I'm really worried about my disability benefits. I went to the doctor and he filled out a form to extend my disability until the end of next year, but I haven't heard anything back yet. I'm getting anxious because I need to pay my bills and get my medications. Has anyone else dealt with this? How long does it usually take to hear back after submitting the form?

Ugh, I feel ya. The waiting game is the worst 😫 When did your doc submit the form? It can take a few weeks to process, but if it's been over a month, you might wanna follow up.

•It's only been about 2 weeks since he sent it in. I guess I'm just getting antsy because my bills are piling up. Thanks for the info!

•Hey now, let's not freak OP out. It varies, but 2 weeks isn't that long. Hang in there!

I've been through this rodeo before. Here's what you need to know: • Processing times vary, but expect 4-6 weeks on average • Make sure you keep a copy of everything you submit • If you haven't heard back after 6 weeks, call them • Be prepared for possible delays - the system is overloaded • Consider applying for emergency assistance if you're in dire straits Hang in there, and don't be afraid to be persistent. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!

•This is solid advice. I'd add: document EVERY interaction you have with them. It'll save your butt if things go sideways.

•Pro tip: I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Wait, what? Is this for real? Sounds too good to be true.

•I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it's legit. Saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

•Can confirm, I've used it too. Absolute game changer when you're desperate to talk to a human.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update info there before sending anything in the mail.

•I didn't even know there was an online account! How do I set that up?

•Go to the official disability website for your state. There should be an option to create an account. You'll need your SSN and some other info. It's super helpful for tracking your claim!

Friendly reminder to everyone: ALWAYS keep copies of everything you submit. You never know when you'll need to prove you sent something in!

•THIS. I learned this the hard way. Now I scan everything and keep a digital copy too. Can't be too careful!
