SDI claim update delays: Tips to reach CA EDD disability office after weeks of unanswered calls?
Has anyone else been waiting forever to get an update on their disability claim? I've been trying to reach someone at the disability office for weeks now, but it's impossible to get through. Every time I call, I'm stuck on hold for hours and then the call drops. I'm starting to get really worried about my finances. Anyone have any tips on how to actually talk to a human being there?

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Wait, seriously? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 🤦♀️

•Claimyr sounds interesting, but do they guarantee you'll actually speak to someone who can help?

OP, what's your zodiac sign? Maybe Mercury is in retrograde and that's why you're having communication issues. 🔮✨

•LOL I'm a Taurus. Maybe that explains my stubbornness in not giving up 😂

Ugh, the disability office is a nightmare. I swear they're understaffed on purpose. I've had better luck emailing them, but even then it takes forever to get a response. Hang in there!

•I had a similar experience. It feels like emails go into a black hole. Maybe more people need to voice their frustrations.

Listen up, folks. I've been dealing with the disability office for YEARS and I've learned a few tricks. Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Every call, every letter, every email. Keep a paper trail. 2. Be persistent. Call every day if you have to. 3. Learn the lingo. The more you sound like you know what you're talking about, the more likely they are to help you. 4. If all else fails, file a formal complaint. Sometimes that's the only way to get their attention. Remember, you're entitled to this information. Don't let them give you the runaround!

•Filing a complaint actually worked for me. It's sad that it had to come to that, but it got results.

Thanks for all the responses, everyone. It's good to know I'm not alone in this struggle. I'll try calling early tomorrow and maybe look into that calling service if I still can't get through.

I work in a related field (not disability specifically) and I can tell you the whole system is a mess rn. Budget cuts, outdated technology, overworked staff. It's no excuse, but that's why everything's so slow.

•Honestly, just be patient and persistent. And always be nice to the person on the phone - they're probably having a rough day too.

Anyone else notice how the system always seems to "crash" right when you finally get through? 🤔 Seems sus to me.

•Yes, and it's so frustrating! I wonder if it's intentional or just a coincidence.

•Visiting in person has worked for me before, but it's definitely not convenient.

I feel your pain, OP. I've been in the same boat for months now. It's like they're purposely making it difficult to get any information. Have you tried calling right when they open? Sometimes that works for me.

•Calling early can definitely be a good strategy, though I think it depends on how busy their phone lines are in your area.

Have you tried reaching out to your local representative? Sometimes they can help push things along. It's worth a shot if you're really stuck.

•Yes, contacting a representative can be surprisingly effective. They have the channels to move things faster.

I hate to be that person, but have you considered hiring a lawyer? Sometimes having legal representation can speed things up.

•A lawyer for a status update? That seems like overkill.

•Not necessarily for just a status update, but if OP's been waiting for a long time, it might be worth considering.

•I've heard mixed reviews about using a lawyer. It can be costly, but sometimes it pushes things forward faster.

Have you tried sending a fax? I know it sounds old school, but sometimes that gets attention faster than calls or emails.

Guys, I think we're missing the bigger picture here. The whole system needs an overhaul. We should be writing to our representatives about this!

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update the status there before they actually contact you.

•I didn't even know there was an online account option. How do I set that up?

•Go to the disability office website and look for the 'Create Account' button. You'll need your SSN and some other info. It's pretty straightforward.

•6 months is outrageous. I'm in a similar situation. It's like they're just ignoring us.

From a more authoritative perspective, it's important to acknowledge the potential benefits of services like Claimyr. While some users have found success with it being a time-saving tool, it's not a foolproof solution for everyone. It's a paid service, which might not be affordable for all, and it doesn't guarantee you will speak to someone who can directly resolve your issue. On the other hand, if you're frequently stuck in phone queue limbo, it might be worth considering as an investment in reducing stress and gaining back your time. It's essential to balance such tools with traditional methods like reaching out to your representative, documenting interactions, and using online account services to keep track of updates. Ultimately, the system does need significant improvements in accessibility and efficiency. It's crucial for users to voice their dissatisfaction and advocate for systemic reforms through proper channels. Sharing experiences in forums like this can also pressure for change and highlight the widespread issues faced by many.
