SDI claim filed in January, no payments or updates after months - advice for EDD call?
I filed for SDI in January and still haven't gotten any payments or updates. It's been months and I'm getting really frustrated. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm planning to call EDD tomorrow to ask about the status of my claim. Any advice on what I should say or ask when I finally get through to someone?

Has anyone tried contacting their local representative? I've heard sometimes they can help push things along.

That's a good idea. Contacting a representative could definitely apply some pressure on EDD.

Bruh, I've been waiting since NOVEMBER. This is ridiculous. I'm about ready to go down to the EDD office and camp out until someone helps me.

November?! That's insane. I hope you get it sorted out soon.

That's a long time to wait. Maybe a visit to the office might be what you need to get some answers.

Has anyone else noticed that it seems to be taking longer for claims filed in 2024? I wonder if they changed something in the system. Might be worth asking about that when you call, OP.

That's an interesting observation. There could have been changes that are affecting the processing time.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update stuff there without sending notifications. Worth a shot before you spend hours on hold.

Yeah, I've been checking it like crazy. Nothing new there either π

It's always so frustrating waiting for updates, especially when your online account doesn't provide any new information. Maybe it'll update soon!

Have you checked if your employer submitted all the necessary paperwork? Sometimes the holdup is on their end and EDD won't tell you that directly.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I was in the same boat last year. It took me forever to get through to someone. When you do, make sure you have all your info ready - claim number, dates, everything. And don't let them brush you off! Keep pushing until you get answers.

guys I think I cracked the code - if you press 2, then 1, then 4, then sing the national anthem backwards, you get through instantly! jk obviously but man, sometimes it feels like that's what it would take π

Plot twist: what if EDD is actually run by a bunch of sloths? π¦₯ Would explain a lot tbh

I'm in the exact same situation! Filed in January, radio silence since then. It's so frustrating. Let us know how your call goes - I might try calling too if you have any luck.

Here's what you need to do when you get through: 1. Stay calm and polite, even if you're frustrated. The person on the other end isn't personally responsible for the delay. 2. Have your claim number and all relevant dates ready. 3. Ask these specific questions: - What's the current status of my claim? - Is there any missing information or documentation needed? - When can I expect to receive my first payment? - Is there a specific reason for the delay? 4. Take detailed notes during the call, including the name of the representative you speak with. 5. If they can't give you a clear answer, ask to speak with a supervisor or request a callback from someone who can help. 6. Before ending the call, confirm any next steps or actions you need to take. Remember, persistence is key. Don't be afraid to follow up if you don't see progress after the call. Good luck!

This is solid advice. I'd add: ask for a reference number for the call. It helps if you need to follow up later.

hey quick question - did you get any kind of confirmation when you first filed? might be worth double checking that your claim actually went through

Anastasia Sokolov
Yeah, I got an email confirmation. That's part of why this is so confusing!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

I get it, it sounds crazy. But think about how much time and stress it saves. For me, it was a no-brainer after weeks of failed attempts.

It's true that these services can be really helpful in saving time. However, it's a shame that the system makes people feel desperate enough to pay for help in the first place.

It might be helpful to reach out to Claimyr for a faster connection to EDD. However, it's worth noting that although services like Claimyr can be effective, they may not be suitable for everyone due to the cost. Evaluate your personal situation to determine if itβs feasible. Also, continue trying traditional methods like calling at off-peak times or reaching out to local representatives.
