Need the direct EDD SDI phone number for Chico office - anyone have it?

I misplaced my paperwork and need to call the EDD disability office in Chico directly. The main EDD number just keeps transferring me around and I've wasted hours on hold. Does anyone have the direct line for the SDI office in Chico specifically? My claim needs some adjustments and I'd rather talk to someone local who might understand my situation better. Thanks in advance!

There isn't actually a direct SDI number for the Chico office that the public can call. All disability claims go through the main centralized numbers: 1-800-480-3287 for English or 1-866-658-8846 for Spanish. Local offices don't handle SDI claims directly anymore - everything's processed through their central system now.

Ugh really? That's so frustrating. I've been trying the main number for days but keep getting disconnected after waiting forever.

I was in the same boat last week trying to reach someone about my pregnancy disability claim. After wasting HOURS getting disconnected, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual EDD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd It's the only thing that worked after days of trying to get through on my own. The agent was able to fix my certification issue right away once I actually got to talk to someone.

Thank you! I'll check that out. At this point I'm desperate to talk to anyone who can help with my claim.

Does that service actually work? Seems sketchy to have to use a third party just to talk to a government agency we pay taxes for...

Just to clarify some misinformation - EDD disability claims are handled at processing centers, not local offices. The Chico office is an America's Job Center that primarily handles unemployment, not disability. For SDI issues, you must use the state disability insurance contact center at 1-800-480-3287. If you need to submit documents, you can use the SDI Online portal through your Benefit Programs Online account, or fax them to the number listed on your forms. The Chico office can't directly access or modify your disability claim.

Thanks for clarifying! I didn't realize the local offices couldn't help with SDI claims. I've been wasting my time looking for their direct number. I'll focus on getting through to the main SDI line.

The whole EDD phone system is BROKEN BY DESIGN!!! I spent TWO WEEKS trying to reach someone about my disability extension. Called literally 40+ times. NEVER got through. Finally had to get my state representative involved. It shouldn't be this hard to get basic help when you're already dealing with health issues!!!

Same experience here. I just ended up going to the actual physical office with all my paperwork even though they say not to. The security guard tried to turn me away but I explained I couldn't get through on the phone for weeks and eventually someone helped me. Sometimes you just have to show up in person.

Quick tip - call exactly at 8:00 AM when they open. That's your best chance of getting through without an hour+ wait. Also avoid Mondays and the day after holidays when call volume is highest. Good luck!

I had a similar issue with my SDI claim last month. What helped me was using the 'Contact EDD' option through the SDI Online portal instead of calling. I got a response within 3 business days and they resolved my certification issue. Much less stressful than the phone route!

I'll try the online contact option too. At this point I'll try anything to get my claim sorted out. Thanks for the suggestion!

I feel your frustration! I went through the same runaround last year with my SDI claim. Here's what finally worked for me: I called the main number (1-800-480-3287) at exactly 8:01 AM on a Tuesday and pressed 1-2-1 to get to the disability line faster. When you get the automated message, don't hang up even if it says high call volume - just stay on hold. I also kept my claim number and social security number ready so I could get through the verification quickly. It took about 35 minutes on hold but I finally got through to someone who could actually help. The key is persistence and timing. Also, if you have any documents to submit, definitely use the online portal like others mentioned - it's way more reliable than trying to fax things. Hang in there!

Thanks Miguel! The 1-2-1 tip is really helpful - I didn't know there was a shortcut to get to the disability line faster. I've been just pressing random numbers hoping to get through. I'll definitely try calling at 8:01 AM on Tuesday with your method. Really appreciate you taking the time to share what worked for you!

I've been dealing with EDD SDI issues for months and learned a few things that might help. First, like others mentioned, there's no direct Chico number - everything goes through the central system now. But here's what I discovered: if you call the main SDI line (1-800-480-3287) and get the busy signal, try calling back immediately. Sometimes it cycles you through faster on the second attempt. Also, I found that Wednesday mornings around 10 AM actually had shorter wait times than right at 8 AM opening - seems like everyone tries at 8 and clogs the system. When you do get through, have your claim number, SSN, and a list of specific questions ready so you don't have to call back. The online portal through Benefit Programs Online is definitely worth setting up too - you can check your claim status and upload documents without the phone hassle. Don't give up, the system is frustrating but you'll eventually get someone who can help!

This is really helpful advice, Benjamin! I never thought about trying Wednesday mornings instead of the 8 AM rush. The tip about calling back immediately after a busy signal is interesting too - I'll definitely try that. I'm going to set up that online portal account this afternoon so I have that as a backup option. Thanks for sharing your experience, it gives me hope that I'll eventually get through to someone who can actually help with my claim adjustments!

I work at a nonprofit that helps people navigate government benefits, and I see this issue constantly. Here's my honest take: the EDD phone system is overwhelmed and understaffed, which is why so many people struggle to get through. A few additional strategies that have worked for our clients: 1) Try calling on Thursday or Friday afternoons around 2-3 PM - counterintuitive but sometimes less busy. 2) If you speak Spanish, the Spanish line (1-866-658-8846) often has shorter wait times even if you're bilingual. 3) Document everything - dates you called, how long you waited, reference numbers if you get any. This helps if you need to escalate later. 4) Your local state assembly member's office can sometimes intervene on constituent services issues if you've been trying for weeks without success. The system shouldn't be this difficult, but unfortunately persistence is key. Don't give up - your claim matters and you deserve to get the help you're entitled to!

This is incredibly helpful information! I had no idea that local assembly offices could intervene - that's really good to know as a last resort option. The tip about trying the Spanish line even if bilingual is clever, I wouldn't have thought of that. I'm definitely going to start documenting my call attempts like you suggested. It's reassuring to hear from someone who works with these issues professionally that persistence really does pay off. Thank you for taking the time to share these strategies!
