EDD phone number San Jose - can't reach anyone at local office

I've been trying to find a direct EDD phone number San Jose office for weeks now. My claim got messed up and I need to talk to someone local who can actually help. I keep calling the main 800-300-5616 number but after 3+ hours on hold yesterday the call just dropped. Does anyone know if there's still a local San Jose EDD office with a direct line? I'm so frustrated spending entire days trying to reach someone.

Unfortunately there's no local San Jose EDD phone number anymore. All calls go through the centralized system now. The local offices don't handle phone calls - everything routes to the main call center.

That's so frustrating! I used to be able to walk into the office on Meridian. Now it's just this impossible phone maze.

Yeah the local offices are appointment-only now and you still have to call the main number to set that up

I'm in San Jose too and have been dealing with this nightmare for 2 months. The 833-978-7953 number is the exact same line as the 800 number, don't let anyone tell you different. Tried both dozens of times.

Good to know! I was wondering if one worked better than the other. Guess they're both equally impossible.

0 coins

Exactly. Save yourself the time switching between numbers - it's all the same overloaded system.

After burning through my entire vacation time trying to call EDD manually, I finally used Claimyr last week. Got through in 25 minutes and talked to an actual human. Honestly wish I'd done it sooner instead of wasting weeks calling myself.

0 coins

Claimyr? What's that exactly? I'm getting desperate at this point.

0 coins

It's an auto-dialer service at claimyr.com - they call for you and forward you when an agent picks up. Costs money but way better than losing entire days calling manually.

The trick is calling right at 8am when they open. I set my alarm for 7:55am, have coffee ready, and start dialing at exactly 8:00am. Still takes 40-60 attempts but better odds than calling later.

I tried that Monday morning and called 80+ times without even getting on hold. Maybe weekends are too backed up?

Monday mornings are the worst! Try Wednesday or Thursday morning instead. Tuesday can be rough too from the Monday overflow.

PSA: Don't waste time calling between noon and 1:30pm. The ENTIRE call center takes lunch and nobody answers. Found this out the hard way after calling for 2 hours straight during lunch.

0 coins

Seriously?? They all take lunch at the same time? No wonder I couldn't get through yesterday afternoon.

Yep, complete dead zone from 12-1:30pm. They should post this somewhere but they don't. Save yourself the wasted calls.

For anyone still trying manually - the menu shortcut is 1-wait about 70 seconds-1-1-***. Don't wait for all the prompts, just punch in the sequence. Saves 30+ seconds per call when you're redialing 50+ times.

Wait 70 seconds? I've been waiting the full 2+ minutes for each prompt. No wonder it's taking me forever.

Luca Ricci

•

Yeah you can interrupt most of the prompts early. Takes practice to get the timing right but saves tons of time.

I've been tracking my call attempts in a spreadsheet because I'm losing my mind. Best success rate is Wednesday 2-3pm. Worst is Friday after 3pm and any time Monday before noon. Called 347 times total so far.

0 coins

347 times?! That's insane. How are you not completely burnt out?

I am burnt out! That's why I'm finally considering paying for that Claimyr thing people keep mentioning.

Just got off a 2 hour hold that ended in a dropped call. This is my 4th dropped call this week after getting through the busy signal maze. The system is completely broken.

The call drops are the worst part. You invest hours getting on hold then BOOM, disconnected. Happens to like 40% of calls.

It's soul crushing. I actually cried when the 4th call dropped yesterday. I can't keep doing this.

My coworker used Claimyr two weeks ago and got through in under an hour. She said it was the best $20 she ever spent considering she'd been trying to call for a month. I'm thinking about trying it too.

0 coins

$20 to not spend entire days calling? Honestly starting to sound worth it at this point.

0 coins

Right? She showed me the video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10 and it actually looks legit. Way better than this manual torture.

Don't fall for the specialist line myths. There's no secret disability or PFL number that's easier to reach. Post-pandemic they all route to the same overloaded call center. Wasted 2 days trying different numbers.

0 coins

Thank you! I keep seeing people post about calling the disability line instead. Good to know it's the same mess.

Exactly the same system. Don't waste time trying to game it with different numbers - focus on timing and persistence instead.

Update: Finally used Claimyr after reading about it here. Called them at 10am Tuesday, got a callback with an EDD agent at 10:35am. Legitimately the easiest part of this whole unemployment nightmare.

0 coins

35 minutes?? I've been calling manually for weeks. Think I need to bite the bullet and try it.

0 coins

Do it. I was skeptical about paying but honestly it saved me probably 20+ hours of calling. Worth every penny.

Pro tip: If you do get on hold, DO NOT hang up to call back even if it seems dead. I've had calls sit silent for 20+ minutes then suddenly an agent picks up. The hold music stops working sometimes.

Good to know! I hung up twice when it went quiet thinking the call dropped. Probably threw away hours of waiting.

Yep, stay on the line unless you get an actual busy signal or disconnect message. The system is buggy but might still be working.

For what it's worth, I had better luck calling the 800 number from a landline vs my cell phone. Not sure if it's prioritized differently but seemed to connect faster. Might be coincidence though.

Interesting theory. I've been using my cell this whole time. Maybe I'll try borrowing my neighbor's landline.

0 coins

Could be total coincidence but worth a shot if you have access to a landline. Anything's worth trying at this point.

Week 3 of the EDD phone marathon here. My phone bill is going to be insane from all these calls. At least I have unlimited minutes but still hitting my data cap from researching calling tips online all day.

0 coins

Use wifi calling to save data! Also helps if your cell signal is weak. Every little bit helps when you're making 100+ calls a day.

Ava Thompson

Good tip! My cell reception at home isn't great so wifi calling might actually help with call quality too.

Reality check: I spent 40+ hours last month just trying to reach EDD. That's like having a part-time job just to talk to them about my unemployment. Something is seriously wrong with this system.

0 coins

Connor Murphy

•

40 hours is insane but sadly believable. I've probably spent 25+ hours myself over 3 weeks. This can't be sustainable.

Zainab Ali

•

Right? And that's not counting the actual time spent on hold or talking to them. Just the redialing attempts. It's broken.

Final update from the San Jose crew: Used Claimyr this morning after reading all these comments. Got my callback in 15 minutes with an agent who fixed my claim issue in 10 minutes. Seriously wish I'd done this weeks ago instead of the manual calling torture.

0 coins

15 minutes?! Okay I'm definitely trying Claimyr tomorrow. This thread convinced me it's worth it.

Do it! I was stubborn about paying but honestly the time savings alone is worth way more than what it costs. Best decision I made.
