Need EDD San Jose phone number - same line or different office?
I keep seeing people mention calling the EDD San Jose phone number but I'm confused. Is there actually a separate San Jose office number or is everyone just calling the main 800-300-5616 line? I live in South Bay and have been trying to reach someone for my claim issue but getting nowhere with the regular number. Spent 4 hours yesterday redialing and only got the busy message. If there's a local San Jose EDD phone number that might be less swamped, I'd love to know it. Anyone from the San Jose area have success with a specific number?

There's no separate San Jose EDD phone number unfortunately. All calls go through the same centralized system regardless of where you live in California. The 800-300-5616 and 833-978-8753 numbers are identical - they route to the same call center.

•Ugh that's what I was afraid of. Was hoping maybe there was a local office with direct lines.

•Yeah I learned this the hard way too. Wasted weeks thinking different area codes might have separate lines.

I'm in San Jose too and have been calling for 2 weeks straight. Best luck I've had is calling Wednesday afternoons around 2pm. Got through to hold twice but both calls dropped after 90 minutes.

•Wednesday afternoons seem to work better than Mondays for sure. I avoid calling after 4pm because they seem to stop taking new calls.

•Good tip about after 4pm. I noticed that pattern too but wasn't sure if it was just coincidence.

After spending literally 6 hours a day calling for a week, I finally broke down and used Claimyr. Got through in 23 minutes. Honestly wish I'd done it sooner instead of wasting all that time on the EDD San Jose phone number search.

•What's Claimyr? Is that legit or some kind of scam?

•It's totally legit - they automatically dial EDD for you and call you back when they get an agent. Check out claimyr.com. There's even a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10

•I was skeptical too but my coworker used it last month. Paid like $20 and got through same day instead of the weeks of manual calling.

Pro tip for everyone still manually calling: dial 1, wait exactly 70 seconds, then dial 1-1-***. Don't wait for the full prompts. Also never call between noon and 1:30 - the entire call center takes lunch.

•The lunch break thing is so annoying! They should at least tell people instead of letting us waste time calling during that window.

•Right? I figured it out after tracking my call attempts for two weeks. Zero success between 12-1:30pm ever.

•Wait so there's no EDD San Jose phone number but they all take lunch at the same time? That's wild.

I've called 127 times this week. Yes I'm counting. Tuesday was my best day - got through to hold 3 times but all dropped. Thursday was impossible, couldn't even get past busy signals.

•127 times in one week? Dude that's insane. At what point do you just pay for help?

•I'm getting close to that point honestly. My phone bill is gonna be crazy this month.

For anyone wondering about the EDD San Jose phone number situation - I called the local EDD office directly and they confirmed all unemployment calls must go through the statewide system. No exceptions, no local numbers.

•Thanks for actually calling to confirm! That saves the rest of us from wild goose chases.

•Appreciate you doing the legwork on this. Guess I'll stick with the main number strategy.

Set your alarm for 7:50am and start dialing at 7:55. Make sure you have coffee ready because you'll be at this for hours. I've had my best success getting on hold between 8:05-8:20am on Wednesdays.

•Early morning calling is definitely the way. I managed to get through at 8:07am last Thursday after only 34 attempts.

•Only 34 attempts? That's amazing luck. I'm usually at 60+ before even getting the hold music.

Ryan Vasquez
•Yeah 34 is incredibly lucky. Usually I'm closer to 80-100 attempts just to get on hold.

Stop wasting time looking for an EDD San Jose phone number that doesn't exist. I tried Claimyr after reading about it here and got connected in 18 minutes. Worth every penny compared to the weeks I spent calling manually.

•How much does Claimyr cost? And do they actually guarantee you'll get through?

Keith Davidson
•It's around $20-30 depending on the line. They don't guarantee but I've used it twice now and both times got through within 30 minutes.

The EDD phone system drops about 40% of calls even when you do get on hold. I've tracked this over 3 months. It's not just busy signals - even successful holds frequently disconnect.

•That's so frustrating! Is there any pattern to when calls are more likely to drop?

•From my data, Monday mornings and Friday afternoons have the highest drop rates. Wednesday/Thursday midday seem most stable.

I work 9-5 so calling during business hours is impossible. Been trying to call during my lunch break but that's right when EDD takes their lunch too. Thinking about using one of those callback services.

•Same situation here. Claimyr lets you schedule callbacks for anytime, even outside EDD hours. They call you when they get an agent.

•That would be perfect for my schedule. Might be worth it just to avoid using all my vacation days for calling.

Been living in San Jose for 10 years and always wondered if there was a local EDD San Jose phone number. Thanks for confirming it's all centralized. Makes sense but also explains why it's so impossible to get through.

•Yeah centralized systems are supposed to be more efficient but EDD clearly didn't plan for the call volume.

Jay Lincoln
•Exactly. One phone system for 40 million people was never going to work during high unemployment.

Just got off a 2 hour and 17 minute hold only to have the call drop right when someone picked up. I'm done with manual calling. Ordering Claimyr callback right now.

•That's heartbreaking! 2+ hours and then nothing. Let us know how the callback service works out.

•Will definitely update. At this point paying for help seems way cheaper than losing more work days to calling.

•I had the exact same thing happen at 2.5 hours. Call drops are the worst part of this whole process.

For everyone still searching for an EDD San Jose phone number - I contacted three different local offices and they all said the same thing. Unemployment calls only go through 800-300-5616 or 833-978-8753, both identical lines.

I'm in the same boat here in San Jose! Been calling for weeks thinking there might be a local number. After reading all these responses, it's clear there's no separate EDD San Jose phone number. The timing tips are really helpful though - sounds like early Wednesday mornings around 8am and avoiding the lunch hour blackout are key. Might have to bite the bullet and try one of those callback services since I can't keep taking time off work to call during business hours. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

•Welcome to the club! I've been in the same San Jose calling nightmare for months. The Wednesday 8am strategy really does work better - I finally got through last week doing exactly that. Just be prepared to redial 50+ times even on the "good" days. The callback services like Claimyr are honestly worth it if you're working full time. I wasted so much PTO before finally paying for help. Good luck!
