Need EDD disability phone number ASAP - can't find on any letters
I'm trying to contact EDD about my disability claim but I can't find the phone number anywhere! Not on their letters, not on the website (or at least I can't find it). My claim shows 'processing' for over 3 weeks now and I really need to talk to someone directly. Does anyone know the direct phone number for EDD disability? I tried the general EDD number but kept getting transferred around without reaching anyone who could actually help with SDI claims. Any help would be appreciated!

The main EDD SDI phone number is 1-800-480-3287. They're open Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, except on state holidays. But good luck actually getting through - I spent weeks trying before I finally got someone on the line. Their call volume is always maxed out.

•Thank you so much! I'll try calling first thing tomorrow morning. Did you have any tips for getting through? Did you just keep calling repeatedly?

•That's actually the Unemployment Insurance (UI) phone number, not the State Disability Insurance (SDI) number. They're different programs within EDD with different contact numbers. The correct SDI number is 1-800-480-3287 as mentioned above.

When I had to call them, I tried for DAYS and couldn't get through. The automated system would just say they were experiencing high call volume and hang up on me. SO FRUSTRATING!

•I had the same exact experience! I tried calling at different times of day for two weeks straight. Early morning, late afternoon, nothing worked. The EDD disability phone system is completely broken. I finally managed to get through using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - it's a service that connects you with an EDD rep without waiting on hold. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd. It was a lifesaver for resolving my certification issues.

•Wow that sounds exactly like what I need right now. I'll check out that video. I'm desperate to talk to someone about why my claim is stuck in processing.

•I did try sending a message through the portal about a week ago but haven't heard anything back yet. That's why I was hoping to talk to someone directly.

If your claim has been processing for 3 weeks, there might be an issue with your medical certification. Did your doctor complete the medical portion properly? That's often what causes delays. You should also check if there are any alerts in your SDI Online account that might indicate missing information. Sometimes they need additional documentation but don't clearly communicate that to you. The disability phone system is overwhelmed since the pandemic, so getting through requires persistence and patience.

•I just checked and there are no alerts in my account. My doctor confirmed they submitted everything, but I'm wondering if maybe something got lost in the system? I'm getting really worried since my bills are due next week and I was counting on this payment.

UPDATE: I finally got through to EDD SDI! Called right at 8:00am and only had to wait 45 minutes. They told me my claim was delayed because they needed additional information from my employer. They're sending a request form today. The agent said once they receive that info, my claim should be processed within 7-10 days. Hope this helps!

•That's super helpful, thank you! I'll try calling right at 8am tomorrow. Did you press any specific options when you called? I want to make sure I get to the right department.

•I selected option 1 for English, then option 1 again for claim information, then option 2 for all other questions. That got me to the right queue for SDI claims. Fingers crossed you get through!
