Can't find EDD SDI customer service phone number - HELP!
Does anyone know the direct number for EDD Disability (SDI)? I've been calling the general unemployment number (833-978-2511) for THREE DAYS trying to get info about my disability claim status and keep getting the runaround. The automated system keeps transferring me to unemployment reps who can't help with disability questions! I filed for disability after my surgery last month and need to know if they received my doctor's certification. My SDI Online account just shows "pending" with no other details. I really need to speak with an actual disability rep, not unemployment. My bills are piling up and I'm getting desperate. Help!

The disability number is 1-800-480-3287. Their hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Good luck getting through tho, I've been calling for like a week straight and can't get anyone!

For Disability Insurance (SDI) claims, you should call 1-800-480-3287 (English) or 1-866-658-8846 (Spanish). They're open M-F, 8am to 5pm. Just a heads up - many people have trouble getting through because of the high call volume. I recommend calling right when they open at 8am for the best chance of reaching someone. Also, make sure you have your claim ID number ready when you call. If you're specifically checking if they received your doctor's certification, you might also want to ask your doctor's office if they've received any confirmation that it was successfully submitted.

•Thank you for the detailed info! I'll definitely try calling right at 8am tomorrow. My doctor's office says they submitted everything electronically but maybe I should double-check with them too.

•I had the same problem trying to reach someone about my disability certification issue. After days of frustration, I finally tried using Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an EDD SDI rep in about 20 minutes. It's a service that basically navigates the phone system for you and calls you back when they have an agent on the line. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd Just wanted to share what worked for me when I was desperate to get my disability payment issues resolved.

•I know they're different programs, that's why I was so frustrated being sent to unemployment reps! The EDD website is really confusing and doesn't make it clear which number to call for what.

I've been on SDI for pregnancy disability since January, and I had the same issue trying to find the right phone number. The main Disability number is 1-800-480-3287. Here's what I found worked best for getting through: 1. Call exactly at 8:00 AM when they open 2. If you get the message about high call volume, hang up and immediately call again 3. Keep trying this pattern for about 15-20 minutes I've managed to get through twice using this method. Also, make sure you have your claim ID, last 4 of SSN, and the exact date you filed ready before you call. They'll ask for this information right away. Regarding your doctor's certification - sometimes the medical forms get separated from your claim in their system. If it's been more than 10 business days since your doctor submitted it, definitely keep calling until you can speak with someone.

•This is good advice, but I think the 8am trick doesn't work as well as it used to because everyone tries it now. I've had better luck calling around 3:30pm for some reason.

Just to clarify something important: there are actually different numbers depending on what specific SDI issue you have: - General Disability Questions: 1-800-480-3287 - Paid Family Leave: 1-877-238-4373 - SDI Online Technical Support: 1-855-342-3645 Since you're checking on your claim status and doctor certification, the first number is the right one. But keep in mind, many representatives are still working remotely, which has made getting through even harder in 2025 than it was before. If you continue having trouble reaching someone, you can also try sending a secure message through your SDI Online account. Go to "Contact SDI" and select "Claim Questions" as the subject. While it's not as immediate as a phone call, they've been responding within 3-5 business days lately.

•Thank you for listing all the different numbers! I had no idea there were specific ones for different issues. I've tried sending a secure message through my account last week but haven't heard back yet. I'll keep trying the phone while I wait for a response to my message.

I've been dealing with EDD SDI for my own disability claim and found a few additional tips that might help: If you're still having trouble getting through on the main disability line (1-800-480-3287), try calling your local EDD office directly. Many people don't know that some local offices can help with disability questions too, not just unemployment. You can find your local office on the EDD website. Also, I noticed you mentioned your claim just shows "pending" - this is actually normal for the first few weeks after filing, especially if they're waiting for medical documentation. But since it's been over a month since your surgery, definitely keep pushing to speak with someone. One more thing - if your doctor submitted the certification electronically, ask them for the confirmation number or receipt. When you do get through to EDD, having that confirmation number can help them locate your medical forms faster in their system. Hope this helps and you get through soon! The waiting is so stressful when you're already dealing with recovery.

•This is really helpful advice! I didn't know local EDD offices could help with disability questions too. I'll look up my local office and try calling them as a backup option. And you're absolutely right about asking my doctor for that confirmation number - I should have thought of that earlier. It's reassuring to hear that "pending" status is normal for the first few weeks, though you're right that after a month I definitely need to follow up. Thanks for the encouragement too, the recovery plus financial stress has been overwhelming.
