EDD Disability phone number changed? Can't reach SDI customer service
Has anyone called EDD Disability (SDI) recently? I've been trying to reach them about my claim but the number I had (1-800-480-3287) just gives me an automated message and hangs up. I tried calling at different times (morning, afternoon) but can't get to a real person. Do they have a different number now for disability questions? I need to talk to someone asap as my payments stopped and I don't see any notices on my account explaining why. Any help appreciated!

The main SDI number is still 1-800-480-3287. But good luck getting through! I spent 3 weeks trying to reach them about my pregnancy disability claim. The system is completely overwhelmed right now. I finally got through using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - it's a service that keeps dialing for you and calls when they get an agent. Saved me so much time and frustration. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

•Thanks for the tip! Had no idea something like that existed. Did they ask you any identity verification questions when you finally got through? I'm worried about my claim being suspended for some reason.

THEY ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH!!!! I've been calling for 2 MONTHS about my injury claim and either get disconnected or told "we're experiencing high call volume" BS. When I finally got through, they said I was supposed to submit additional medical documentation by mail (not online) but NEVER notified me!!! The whole system is designed to make you give up. Try calling right when they open at 8am exactly.

•The SDI division actually has different operating hours than regular unemployment. They're open 8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday except holidays. The reason many people can't get through is that their automated system has a call limit queue, and once it hits that limit, it just disconnects you instead of putting you on hold. Best times to call are Tuesday-Thursday in the middle of the day (like 1-3pm) as those tend to be lower volume periods. Also, make sure you're selecting the correct options in the phone tree - option 1 for general questions, option 2 for claim specific issues after you've submitted a claim.

The correct number for SDI is still 1-800-480-3287. However, there are a few alternatives depending on your specific situation: - For general SDI questions: 1-800-480-3287 - For Paid Family Leave: 1-877-238-4373 - For employer-specific SDI questions: 1-888-745-3886 If your payments stopped suddenly, it's likely because: 1. Your physician certification expired (they typically need to recertify every 30-45 days) 2. You reached your maximum benefit amount 3. Your case was flagged for eligibility review I suggest also checking your SDI Online account to see if there are any messages or forms that need attention. Sometimes notices go to your physical mail instead of your online inbox.

•Thank you! I checked my SDI Online account and don't see any alerts or messages, which is why I'm confused. My doctor sent in the continued certification form last month, but maybe it didn't get processed properly? I'm supposed to get benefits for at least another month according to what my doctor indicated.

•If your doctor submitted the certification but your payments stopped, it could be a processing issue. Sometimes the medical certification gets separated from your claim number in their system. When you do reach a representative, be sure to have: 1. Your claim number 2. The date your doctor submitted the certification 3. Your doctor's name and contact information 4. The date of your last payment This will help them track down where the issue occurred. Also, double-check that your doctor used your correct claim number on the certification form.

•Yes, I've checked the website multiple times but there's nothing showing up about why my payments stopped. No messages, no forms needed, nothing. That's why I'm trying to call them directly.

I had the same issue with my SDI claim last month! My payments just stopped with no explanation. When I finally reached someone, they told me my claim was flagged for an "eligibility interview" but they never contacted me about it. The representative told me they're severely understaffed and behind on processing continued claims. Here's what worked for me: 1. Call at exactly 8:00:00 am (literally the second they open) 2. If that fails, try the alternate approach of calling at 4:30pm (sometimes people have better luck late in the day) 3. Select option 2 (claim specific questions) then option 3 (payment issues) 4. Have your claim number, last 4 of SSN, and doctor info ready It took me 6 attempts but I finally got through and they resolved my issue that same day. Good luck!

•Did they backpay you for the weeks they didn't pay while you were waiting to reach them? Or did they just fix it going forward?

One other thing to check - did you complete your DE 2525XX Continued Claim Certification form? SDI requires you to complete this form every two weeks just like regular unemployment, but many people don't realize this and their payments stop. The form might have been mailed to you rather than appearing online. If you didn't receive it, that could be why your payments stopped. When you reach a representative, ask them to resend the form or help you complete it over the phone.

•Wait, I thought my doctor submitting the continued certification was enough? I wasn't aware I needed to complete a separate form myself every two weeks. That could definitely be the issue. Is this something I can access and submit through the SDI Online portal?

•There are actually two different forms - one that your doctor completes (the medical certification) and one that YOU need to complete (the continued claim form). Many people miss this. For some claims you can complete these online, but for others they still use the paper system. Log into your SDI Online account and check under "Forms" to see if there's a continued claim certification waiting for you. If not, you'll need to ask the EDD representative to send you one when you reach them, or they can process it over the phone in some cases.
