Best times to reach SDI representatives - anyone had success calling in 2025?

I've been trying to reach the State Disability Insurance department for THREE DAYS STRAIGHT and keep getting the dreaded 'we're experiencing high call volume' message before being disconnected! I have urgent questions about my pregnancy disability claim that I filed 2 weeks ago - the EDD website shows it's 'processing' but my doctor confirmed they submitted everything correctly. I NEED to talk to a human being! Has anyone successfully gotten through to SDI recently? Any secret phone numbers or tricks for the best calling times? I've tried morning (8:05am), lunch time, and right before closing (4:45pm). I'm getting desperate as my first payment should be coming soon and I need to make sure everything is set up correctly with my direct deposit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

I had luck getting through to SDI last month by calling exactly at 8:02am. Not 8:00 when everyone calls, but 8:02 when the initial rush dies down. Also, Wednesdays and Thursdays seem to have lower call volumes than Mondays or Fridays in my experience. Make sure you have your claim number, last 4 of SSN, and all your documentation ready when you call. The SDI representatives can't help you without those specific details, and you don't want to waste your time once you get through. Good luck!

Thank you! I'll definitely try the 8:02am trick tomorrow. Did you call the main number or is there another number that works better? Also, did you have to wait on hold long once you got through the initial system?

i tried for weeks to get through. total nightmare. the edd website is useless too because it never updates with the right info.

So frustrating, right?! Have you had any success at all? Did you eventually get your claim sorted out?

I work in HR and deal with SDI claims regularly. Here are some insider tips: 1. Call at 8:07am precisely - most people call right at 8:00am 2. If that doesn't work, try between 10:30-11:15am when call volume typically dips 3. Have your claim number, ID, and doctor's information ready 4. Be concise about your issue when you get a rep 5. Use the automated system to check basic status before calling 6. For pregnancy claims specifically, make sure your provider used code 04A on your medical certification Also, know that first payments are typically processed within 14-21 days after claim approval, so if it's only been 2 weeks, you might just need to wait a bit longer. The system should send you an EDD notification once it's processed.

Thank you so much for these specific tips! I didn't know about the mid-morning dip in call volume. I'll try both the 8:07am and the 10:30am times tomorrow. And I'll double check with my doctor about the 04A code - that might be exactly what's causing the delay!

Have you tried checking your claim status online? Sometimes the system updates there and you don't actually need to talk to anyone. I got SUPER frustrated trying to call about my SDI claim last year and then realized most of my questions were actually answered in my online account.

Yes, I've been checking online obsessively! It just says "processing" which doesn't tell me much. I need to confirm they received my direct deposit info correctly since I've heard horror stories of payments getting lost or delayed because of banking issues.

I've been using Claimyr to get through to EDD when I was dealing with my disability claim last month. It's a service that basically calls EDD for you and then connects you once they get through. Saved me HOURS of frustration. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video that shows how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km It worked for me on the second try and I got to speak with someone who fixed my claim that had been stuck for weeks. Definitely worth looking into if you're desperate to get through!

I've never heard of this service before! I'm getting pretty desperate so I might give this a try if I can't get through tomorrow morning with the other suggestions. Thanks for sharing the link - I'll check out the video!

SDI IS THE WORST!!! I've been on disability for 3 months now because of my back injury and EVERY SINGLE TIME I need to talk to them it's a complete disaster. I once spent 6 HOURS calling non-stop before I got through. The system is completely broken and they don't care at all about us. I've found that Tuesdays around 3:15pm sometimes works better, but honestly it's just luck. And even when you finally get through, half the reps don't know what they're talking about and give wrong information. The whole system needs to be completely overhauled!!

Oh no, that sounds awful! I hope I don't have to deal with this for my entire maternity leave. Thanks for the Tuesday afternoon tip - I'll add that to my list of times to try.

Did you try the online message system? Thats how i got my questions answered when i was on disability last year. Its not immediate but they usually respond within a couple days.

This is actually good advice. The online message system has improved significantly in 2025. While it's not instant, SDI reps are required to respond within 48 business hours. For non-urgent matters, this can be more efficient than calling repeatedly.

Just wanted to follow up and see if you were able to get through using any of the suggestions? Did the 8:02am trick work for you?

I tried the 8:02 and 10:30 times today with no luck, but I FINALLY got through around 3:20pm! You were right about having all the documents ready. They confirmed my claim is actually approved (despite the website still saying "processing") and my first payment should be issued next Tuesday. Such a relief! Thanks again for your help!
