Help with EDD DE 2593 form - tips and advice needed!

Hey everyone, I'm filling out the Check Continuing Eligibility Questionnaire (DE 2593) and I'm kinda lost. Anyone else been through this? Any tips or things I should watch out for? This whole process is giving me a headache 😫

Ugh, I feel ya. I just went through this nightmare last month. Make sure you answer everything honestly and consistently. They'll cross-check your answers with your previous claims, so don't contradict yourself!

Thanks for the heads up! Did you have any issues after submitting it? How long did it take for them to process?

0 coins

It took about 2 weeks for them to process mine. No issues, but I've heard horror stories. Just be thorough and you should be fine!

0 coins

2 weeks? You're lucky! Mine took over a month and then they asked for additional info. šŸ™„ EDD is a mess rn

Pro tip: keep a copy of everything you submit. You never know when you'll need to reference it later. I learned that the hard way šŸ˜…

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone about this! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

Totally get the skepticism, but yeah it's legit. I was desperate after trying for weeks to get through. It's not cheap, but it saved me hours of frustration.

I've used it too. Worked like a charm. Beats sitting on hold for hours!

Here's a detailed breakdown of what to expect with the DE 2593: • It's basically a re-evaluation of your eligibility • They'll ask about your work search efforts • Be prepared to provide info on any income you've earned • They might ask about your availability for work • Answer truthfully, but don't volunteer extra info • Double-check all dates and amounts before submitting Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any specific questions.

This is super helpful, thank you so much! Quick question - do I need to provide proof of job searches or just list them?

0 coins

You usually just need to list them, but keep records in case they ask for verification later. Better safe than sorry!

Quick question - does anyone know if gig work affects eligibility? I've been doing some food delivery on the side and idk if I should mention it 😬

0 coins

You definitely need to report any income, including gig work. They can find out and you don't want to risk fraud charges!

Oof, good to know. Thanks for the heads up!

Pro tip: set a reminder on your phone for when you need to submit this form. I totally spaced on mine and it caused a huge delay in my benefits. Don't be like me lol

Has anyone else noticed that the online system is always "undergoing maintenance" when you actually need to use it? šŸ™ƒ EDD needs to get it together

0 coins

omg yes! Its like they know exactly when I'm gonna log in and shut it down just to mess with me šŸ˜‚

Friendly reminder to everyone: be patient with the EDD staff when you do get through. They're swamped and it's not their fault the system sucks. A little kindness goes a long way!

This! šŸ‘† I used to work for a gov agency (not EDD) and the amount of abuse we got was insane. They're just doing their jobs.

I'm going through the same thing right now! One thing that helped me was calling the DE 2593 hotline early in the morning (like 8:01 AM sharp) - way better chance of getting through than the main EDD line. Also, if you're stuck on any questions, there's a "help" button next to each section that actually gives decent explanations. Don't rush through it - I made that mistake the first time and had to resubmit. Good luck! šŸ¤ž

Thanks for sharing your experience with the DE 2593 form! I'm a newcomer to this process and feeling pretty overwhelmed. Reading through everyone's advice here has been really helpful. I'm especially grateful for the tip about the "help" button next to each section - I had no idea that existed! Also noted about calling the hotline at 8:01 AM sharp. One question for the group: should I submit the form online or mail it in? I've heard mixed things about the online system being glitchy. Any thoughts on which method is more reliable?

0 coins

Welcome to the club! šŸ˜… I'd definitely recommend doing it online if the system is working. I tried mailing mine in once and it took forever to process - like they lost it for weeks. The online system can be glitchy, but at least you get a confirmation number right away. Just make sure to take screenshots of everything before you submit, and maybe try submitting during off-peak hours (early morning or late evening). If the online system is down, then mail is your backup, but online is usually faster when it works!

Hey Aisha! Just went through this exact same form a few weeks ago and totally understand the headache feeling šŸ˜“ One thing that really saved me was printing out a blank copy first and filling it out by hand before doing the online version - helped me catch inconsistencies and think through my answers. Also, if you're on any kind of disability benefits, make sure you're super clear about your work capacity limitations. They ask some tricky questions that can be interpreted different ways. The whole process is definitely stressful but you got this! Feel free to ask if you get stuck on any specific questions.

This is such great advice, thank you! The idea of printing it out first and doing a practice run is brilliant - I never would have thought of that. I'm definitely going to try that approach. And yes, the questions do seem like they could be interpreted in different ways, which is part of what's making me nervous. I really appreciate you offering to help if I get stuck - this community is so supportive! šŸ™

Just wanted to chime in as someone who's been through this process multiple times - the DE 2593 can definitely be overwhelming at first! One tip I haven't seen mentioned yet: if you're currently receiving any medical treatment or have ongoing health issues, make sure to have those dates and provider info handy when filling it out. They sometimes ask about medical appointments that might affect your availability. Also, don't stress too much about perfect wording - they're looking for honest, consistent answers, not poetry 😊 The fact that you're being careful and asking for advice shows you're on the right track!

Thank you so much for this advice! I hadn't even thought about having my medical info ready - that's super helpful. I do have some ongoing health issues that sometimes affect my availability, so having those dates organized beforehand will definitely make the process smoother. Your point about honest answers over perfect wording is really reassuring too. Sometimes I overthink these things and make them harder than they need to be. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience! 😊

Hey Aisha! I'm new to this whole EDD process too and honestly feeling pretty lost with all the paperwork šŸ˜… Reading through everyone's responses here has been super educational though! I'm especially grateful for all the practical tips like keeping copies of everything, being consistent with previous answers, and having medical info ready. One thing I'm curious about - for those who've been through this before, roughly how long should I expect to spend filling out the DE 2593? I want to make sure I set aside enough time to do it properly without rushing. Also, has anyone had success using the EDD website's chat feature for questions, or is calling really the only way to get help? Thanks everyone for creating such a supportive space to navigate this stuff! šŸ™

Hey there! Welcome to the EDD maze šŸ˜… From my experience, I'd budget about 45 minutes to an hour for the DE 2593 if you're being thorough (which you should be!). That includes time to gather any documents you might need and double-check everything before submitting. As for the chat feature - honestly, I've had better luck with carrier pigeons 🐦 The chat is almost always "unavailable" or you get stuck with a bot that just tells you to call anyway. Your best bet is still the phone, especially using that early morning tip someone mentioned. The 8:01 AM thing actually works! Also, since you're new to this, definitely take screenshots of every page as you fill it out. The system has a habit of timing out right when you're about to submit. Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask more questions - we've all been where you are! šŸ¤

New to this whole disability benefits process and this thread has been incredibly helpful! Just wanted to add that I called the EDD disability office this morning around 8:15 AM and actually got through after only 20 minutes on hold - way better than I expected based on all the horror stories. The rep was really patient and walked me through some of the confusing sections on the DE 2593. She mentioned that if you're receiving SDI (State Disability Insurance), some of the work search requirements are different, so definitely clarify that if it applies to you. Also learned that you can request an extension if you need more time to gather medical records or other documentation. Don't suffer in silence - the reps are actually pretty helpful once you get through to them! Hang in there everyone šŸ’Ŗ

This is so encouraging to hear! šŸ™Œ I've been dreading making that phone call because of all the stories about hours-long wait times, but 20 minutes sounds totally manageable. The tip about SDI having different work search requirements is really important - I'm on SDI and had no idea there might be different rules. Definitely going to call tomorrow morning and ask about that specifically. Also good to know about the extension option - takes some of the pressure off knowing I don't have to rush if I need more time to get my medical records together. Thanks for sharing your positive experience, it gives me hope that this process might not be as nightmarish as I was expecting! 😊

As someone who just navigated the DE 2593 process last month, I wanted to share a few things that really helped me get through it smoothly! First, definitely take advantage of the "save as draft" feature if you're doing it online - I learned this the hard way when the system timed out on me halfway through šŸ˜“ Second, when they ask about your "ability to work," be very specific about your limitations rather than vague. For example, instead of saying "back problems," write something like "unable to lift over 10 pounds due to herniated disc." The more detailed you are, the better they can assess your situation. Also, if you're currently seeing any specialists or have upcoming appointments, mention those too - it shows you're actively managing your condition. One last tip: if you get stuck on a question, don't guess! Call and ask for clarification. I spent way too much time stressing over one section when a 5-minute phone call cleared everything up. You've got this, and this community is here to help if you need it! šŸ’Ŗ

This is such valuable advice, thank you! The tip about being specific with limitations is really important - I was planning to be pretty vague about my condition but you're absolutely right that more detail is better. I definitely learned about the "save as draft" feature the hard way too šŸ˜… Had to start over completely when the system crashed on me yesterday. Your point about not guessing on confusing questions is spot on - I tend to overthink things and convince myself I should know the answer, but calling for clarification is so much smarter than potentially getting it wrong. Really appreciate you sharing what worked for you, it makes this whole process feel less intimidating! šŸ™

Just wanted to jump in and say thank you to everyone who's shared their experiences here! I'm also dealing with the DE 2593 form right now and honestly was feeling pretty anxious about it until I found this thread. The advice about printing it out first to do a practice run is genius - definitely going to try that approach. Also really helpful to know about the early morning calling strategy and the "save as draft" feature online. One thing I'm wondering about - has anyone had experience with the form if you're dealing with a mental health condition rather than a physical disability? I'm not sure if the questions about work capacity apply differently, or if there are any specific things I should be aware of when filling it out. Thanks again everyone for being so supportive and sharing your knowledge! This community is a lifesaver šŸ™
