Filed for SDI instead of UI by mistake - How to fix?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my unemployment claim. I accidentally filed for disability instead of unemployment. Has anyone else made this mistake? How do I fix it and open my unemployment claim?

Ugh, that sucks. The EDD system is so confusing! I've never made that exact mistake, but I've definitely messed up my application before. Have you tried calling them to explain the situation?

•Tell me about it! I spent weeks trying to get someone on the phone. It's ridiculous how hard they make it.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Are you sure its legit?

•I was skeptical at first too, but I promise it's real. I got through in like an hour when I'd been trying for weeks on my own.

•20 bucks tho? That's kinda steep just to talk to someone...

•I get it, but for me it was worth it. I was losing way more than $20 by not getting my claim sorted out.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Log into your EDD account 2. Look for an option to withdraw your current claim 3. Once withdrawn, file a new claim for unemployment 4. If you can't find these options online, you HAVE to call them 5. Be prepared with your employment history and reason for unemployment If you filed for SDI by mistake, they might investigate why you initially claimed disability. Be honest about the error. Good luck!

•Great advice! Just wanna add, make sure you have all your docs ready before you call. They always ask for stuff I can never find 🤦♂️

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member? Sometimes they can help push things through faster.

•I didn't even know that was an option! How do I find my assembly member?

•Just google '[your city] assembly member' and you should find their contact info. Send them an email explaining your situation. They usually have staff dedicated to helping with EDD issues.
