EDD trying to close my case over a letter I never received - Help!
I'm about to lose my case because they say I didn't return a letter within 10 days. But I never even got the letter! Has anyone else dealt with this? What can I do?

Ugh, classic EDD move. They're always pulling this kinda stuff. Have you tried calling them to explain the situation?

I've been trying to call for days but can't get through. It's so frustrating!

Same boat here. Their phone lines are a joke. I spent hours just trying to talk to someone 🤬

Pro tip: call right when they open. Sometimes you can get lucky and snag a spot in the queue.

This happened to me last year. Here's what I did: 1. Kept calling EDD non-stop 2. Sent a written appeal explaining I never received the letter 3. Contacted my local assembly member for help 4. Documented everything - dates, times, who I spoke to It took a while, but I finally got it sorted. Don't give up!

Thank you so much for the detailed advice! I'll definitely try contacting my assembly member. How long did the whole process take for you?

It took about 6 weeks total, but your mileage may vary. The assembly member's office really sped things up for me.

This is solid advice. I'd add: make sure to check your spam folder regularly too. Sometimes important stuff ends up there.

Ugh, classic EDD move. 🙄 I've been there, buddy. Your best bet is to email them ASAP explaining the situation. Make sure to include your claim ID and ask them to verify your mailing address. Also, request that they resend the letter and extend your deadline. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! Do you think I should call them too, or is email enough?

Honestly, calling can be a nightmare. Stick with email first, it gives you a paper trail. If you don't hear back in a few days, then try calling. But be prepared to wait on hold for hours 😩

Email is good but I'd say call too. Better to cover all your bases with these clowns 🤡

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

I get it, but think about how much your time is worth. Spending hours on hold or potentially losing benefits? I'll take the $20 hit any day

Listen up, because I've been through this rodeo before. Here's what you need to do: • First, don't panic. EDD makes mistakes all the time. • Draft an email explaining the situation. Be polite but firm. • Include your full name, last 4 of SSN, and current mailing address. • Request they verify your address and resend the letter. • Ask for an extension on any deadlines due to their error. • If possible, attach any proof that you've been actively checking your mail. • Send the email to multiple EDD email addresses if you can find them. • Follow up with a phone call in 2-3 business days if you don't get a response. • Document EVERYTHING. Save copies of all correspondence. • If all else fails, contact your local state representative. They can often help push things through. Remember, you're not alone in this. The system is broken, but with persistence, you can get it sorted out. Hang in there!

Have you checked if they have an online portal where you can update your mailing address? Sometimes these systems don't talk to each other and your address could be outdated in one part of their database. Worth a shot!

Pro tip: If you end up having to call, try early in the morning right when they open. That's when I've had the best luck getting through without a ridiculous wait time.

This happened to my cousin last month! She ended up going to her local EDD office in person. Took half a day, but she got it sorted. Might be worth a shot if emails and calls don't work out.

Wait, you can go in person? I thought all the offices were closed due to COVID

Some have reopened! Check their website for locations and hours. It's not ideal, but sometimes face-to-face is what it takes

Have you checked your address on file with EDD? Sometimes they have outdated info and send stuff to the wrong place.
