USCIS missed their 10-day info deadline - what now?
Hey everyone, I'm getting really frustrated with USCIS. They told me they'd give me information within 10 days, but that time has passed and I haven't heard anything. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do now?

Ugh, classic USCIS. They're always playing the waiting game. I've been there too, it's so annoying when they don't stick to their own timelines. Have you tried calling them?

I've tried calling but it's impossible to get through. Just endless hold times and then they hang up on you. It's driving me crazy!

Pro tip: call first thing in the morning when they open. Sometimes you can get through faster that way.

Ugh, classic USCIS. They're always pulling this kinda stuff. I've been waiting for months on my case and every time I call, it's just crickets. š¦ Hang in there, buddy.

Same boat here. It's like they forget we're real people with lives that are on hold

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/eSz742AOvHc

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? How long did you have to wait?

It really does work! I was skeptical too, but I was desperate. I waited about 2 hours, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. They just called me when an agent was ready.

I get it, but for me it was worth it. I wasted so much time trying to call myself. Time is money, ya know? šāāļø

Here's what you need to do to follow up with USCIS when they miss their promised timeline: 1. Check your case status online first. Sometimes it's updated there before they contact you. 2. If nothing's changed online, try to reach them by phone. Be persistent and patient. 3. If you can't get through by phone, consider scheduling an InfoPass appointment at your local USCIS office. 4. You can also try contacting the USCIS Ombudsman's office. They can sometimes help with cases that are outside normal processing times. 5. As a last resort, you might want to consider contacting your local congressperson's office. They can sometimes inquire on your behalf. Remember, USCIS is often overwhelmed, so delays are common. But that doesn't mean you should just sit back and wait. Be proactive, but also be patient and polite in all your interactions. Good luck!

This is great advice. I've used the Ombudsman before and they were actually pretty helpful. It took a while, but they got things moving for me.

Have you tried submitting an e-request on their website? Sometimes that can help nudge things along. It's not a guarantee, but it's worth a shot.

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes USCIS emails end up there. It's a long shot, but worth checking!

What type of application did you submit? Different forms have different processing times and some are way behind schedule rn

I submitted an I-485 for adjustment of status. I know those can take a while, but they specifically told me 10 days for this particular update.

Ah gotcha. Yeah, I-485s are taking forever these days. But if they promised 10 days for a specific update, you should definitely follow up. Hope you get some answers soon!

Pro tip: if you can, try to schedule an InfoPass appointment at your local USCIS office. You might be able to get more info in person.

Look, I hate to be that guy, but welcome to the wonderful world of USCIS šŖš¤” Their motto should be "Hurry up and wait!" But for real, don't let it get you down. Keep pushing and eventually you'll break through.

Have you considered reaching out to your local congressperson's office? They often have liaisons who can inquire about cases with USCIS. It's not a magic solution, but it can sometimes help move things along. Here's what you can do: ā¢ Find your representative's website ā¢ Look for a "Help with a Federal Agency" section ā¢ Fill out their form or call their office ā¢ Provide as much detail about your case as possible ā¢ Be patient, but follow up if you don't hear back within a couple of weeks Remember, they can't guarantee results, but they can often get more information than we can as individuals. Good luck!
