EDD closed my case for not responding to a letter I never received - What can I do?
Has anyone else had their case closed because they didn't return a letter within 10 days? I swear I never even received it. Now I'm freaking out because I don't know what to do. How can they expect us to respond to something we never got in the first place? This system is so messed up.

Ugh, same boat here. The EDD is a nightmare to deal with. I had something similar happen last year. Have you tried calling them? It's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way to get things sorted out.

I've been trying to call all day but can't get through. It's so frustrating! How long did it take you to reach someone?

Honestly, it took me like 3 days of non-stop calling. I felt like I was going insane. Keep trying tho, you'll get through eventually!

Pro tip: try calling right when they open. I've had better luck getting through that way. Good luck!

This happened to me too! I found out later that they had my old address on file. Make sure all your contact info is up to date in their system. It's a hassle, but it might prevent future issues.

The whole system is broken af. They expect us to jump through hoops while they can't even send a letter properly. smh 🤦♂️

Preach! 🙌 It's like they're trying to make it as difficult as possible for us.

I know it's frustrating, but don't give up! Here's what you need to do: 1. Keep calling EDD until you get through. It's a pain, but persistence pays off. 2. Explain your situation calmly and ask for a supervisor if needed. 3. Request that they reopen your case due to not receiving the letter. 4. Ask them to update your contact information to ensure you receive future correspondence. 5. Get the name and ID of the person you speak with, and ask for a confirmation number for the call. 6. Follow up with a written appeal if they can't resolve it over the phone. 7. Consider reaching out to your local state representative for help if EDD isn't cooperating. Remember, you have rights, and they can't just close your case without proper notification. Stay strong and don't let the system beat you down!

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely follow these steps. It's good to know I'm not alone in this struggle.

This is solid advice. I'd add one more thing: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every interaction. It might come in handy later.

Hey guys, I found a method to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

Idk man, paying to get through to a government agency feels wrong. Shouldn't this be free?

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo. And yeah, it should be free, but when the system's this broken, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

This is why I always opt for electronic communication when possible. Less chance of things getting lost in the mail. Does EDD offer that option?

They do, but their online system is just as messed up as their mail system lol. Pick your poison I guess 🤷♀️

Plot twist: what if the EDD is secretly run by a bunch of cats who just love knocking papers off desks? 🐱📄 Would explain a lot tbh
