EDD SDI identity verification confusion - asked to verify again after submitting all documents
I applied for disability a few weeks ago and sent in all the required documents for identity verification. Now I got a letter asking me to verify my identity again. I'm confused because I already sent in my driver's license, phone bill, birth certificate, and social security card. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do when I call them about this?

Unpopular opinion: maybe try going to the office in person if you can? I know it's a pain, but sometimes face-to-face works better than all this phone and mail nonsense.

•Face-to-face interactions can sometimes cut through the red tape more effectively. Worth trying if possible.

I swear, dealing with disability is like playing a game where they keep changing the rules and don't tell you. Anyone else feel like they're just throwing darts blindfolded trying to figure this out? 🎯😵💫

Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous that we have to jump through all these hoops just to get help when we need it? The system is broken af 💯

•You're not alone. It's a clown show 🤡 We pay taxes for this 'service' and look how they treat us.

•Totally agree. It's like they forget the 'service' part of 'public service' smh

•The disconnect between service expectations and reality is staggering. Reforms are long overdue.

Update: I called them using the advice here. The agent said they never received my original documents! Even though I sent them certified mail. Now I have to send everything again. This is so frustrating. 😫

•Consider using a digital option if available, like a portal or uploading, to avoid future lost document issues.

Ugh, the bureaucracy is real 🙄 I swear they just send out these letters randomly to make us jump through hoops. It's like they don't even look at what we've already submitted.

•Ikr? It's like they're playing games with our lives. I've been waiting for months and keep getting these stupid letters.

•I hope that's not the case. I really need this to go through smoothly. Has anyone had any luck getting through to them on the phone?

•I feel the same way. It's exhausting trying to navigate their system without any clear guidance.

This whole system is a joke. I've been trying to get my disability approved for 6 months now. Every time I think I'm making progress, they throw another curveball. It's like they're trying to wear us down so we'll just give up. 😤

•Preach! 🙌 I'm in the same boat. It's like they forget we're real people with bills to pay.

•Have you tried contacting your local representative? Sometimes they can help push things along.

have you tried faxing your documents? sometimes that works better than mailing them. just a thought.

•Faxing can be surprisingly efficient. It's old-school but gets the job done.

hey OP, just curious - how long did it take for you to get that letter after you sent in your docs? I'm still waiting to hear back and getting nervous...

•I got the letter about three weeks after I sent everything in. Just hang tight, I'm sure you'll hear soon!

Has anyone tried the online portal? I heard they updated it recently. Might be worth a shot instead of dealing with snail mail and phone calls.

pro tip: scan all ur documents and keep them in a folder on ur phone. makes it way easier to resend or show proof if they pull this bs again

This happened to me too! It's so frustrating. I think their system is messed up or something. I had to call them and explain that I already sent everything in. They told me it was a 'system error' and that they'd update my file. Maybe try calling and see if that helps?

•I've heard this is a common issue. It's like the error is part of the process at this point. Keep us updated on how it resolves!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Don't panic! This happens more often than you'd think. 2. Gather all your documents again (license, bill, birth certificate, SS card). 3. Call them ASAP and explain the situation calmly. 4. Ask why you're being asked to verify again despite submitting everything. 5. Take notes during the call and get the agent's name. 6. If they ask you to resend, do it via certified mail so you have proof. 7. Follow up in a week if you don't hear back. Remember, persistence is key. Don't let them give you the runaround. Good luck!

•This is solid advice. I'd add one thing: ask for a supervisor if the first agent isn't helpful. Sometimes you gotta go up the chain to get results.

•Following up regularly is crucial. It feels like they only react when you keep pushing.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Wait, you actually paid money to get through to them? That seems kinda sketchy. Is it even legal?

•$20 to skip the hold time? Idk man, sounds too good to be true. How does it actually work?

Hiroshi Nakamura
•I get the skepticism, but it's legit. It's just a service that waits on hold for you. Totally legal. And tbh, it was worth every penny to not sit on hold for hours. Just sharing what worked for me 🤷♂️

Ugh, this is so relatable! The exact same thing happened to me last month. I sent everything in certified mail with tracking, and then got another verification letter like they never received anything. When I called, they said there was a "processing delay" and my documents were "still being reviewed" even though it had been weeks. It's like they have no communication between departments. Definitely call them and be persistent - sometimes you have to explain the same thing to 3 different people before someone actually looks at your file properly. So frustrating when you're already dealing with being unable to work! 😔

•The lack of interdepartmental communication is mind-boggling! It's like each department operates in its own little bubble. Hope you finally got through to someone who could actually help resolve it.

This is so frustrating but unfortunately super common! I went through something similar last year. Here's what I learned: when you call, ask them to check if your documents were scanned into their system properly. Sometimes they receive them but there's a scanning error or they get misfiled. Also ask for the specific reason code for why verification is needed again - sometimes it's just an automated letter that went out by mistake. If they truly don't have your docs, definitely send them again but consider using both certified mail AND their online portal if available. Keep copies of everything and document every phone call (date, time, agent name, what they told you). The whole system is a mess but persistence usually pays off eventually. Hang in there! 💪
