EDD SDI denied: ID verification issues, can't access online system or get mail. Phone number changed. Help!
I applied for disability insurance last month and got denied because they said I didn't provide verification of my identity. I can't access the online EDD disability system because of ID.me issues. I haven't received any mail to verify my identity either. I need to get something mailed to me or access to the online system. My phone number changed recently too. What should I do? This is so frustrating!

•There's definitely room for improvement in how these systems serve people.

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes important EDD emails end up there. Also, make sure to update your contact info with them ASAP.

•Double-check that the new phone number is updated in all their systems to avoid more communication issues.

Ugh, I feel your pain! The EDD system is a total nightmare. Have you tried calling them directly? It's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way to get things sorted out.

•I've been trying to call for days but can never get through. It's like they don't want us to reach them 😡

•Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold that way!

•It might also help to try different numbers if there are multiple lines available. Sometimes certain ones are less congested.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•$20 just to talk to someone? The system is so broken 😤

•I know it sucks to pay, but for me, it was worth it to finally get my issue resolved.

•It'd be great if such services weren't needed, but sometimes paying to save time and stress is necessary.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything: Keep a record of all your attempts to contact EDD and resolve the issue. 2. Contact your local state representative: They often have liaisons who can help with EDD issues. 3. Use social media: Tweet at EDD or message them on Facebook. Sometimes public pressure helps. 4. File a complaint with the state: If all else fails, file an official complaint about your situation. 5. Keep trying to call: Use the trick of calling right at opening time or just before closing. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up! The system is designed to be frustrating, but you'll get through eventually.

Unpopular opinion: maybe try going to an EDD office in person? I know it's a hassle, but sometimes face-to-face is the only way to get things done.

•I tried this and waited 4 hours just to be told to go online. YMMV

Claimyr is an interesting service that tackles the issue of long wait times and difficulty in reaching live representatives at EDD by essentially navigating the system for you and connecting you when it's your turn. It's a potentially very useful tool in a broken system, especially when urgent matters need addressing and all other options have been exhausted. However, considering that it costs $20 for a call, it's worth contemplating whether this is a sustainable or fair solution for everyone, especially for those who might already be in financial straits. While Claimyr offers a bridge over administrative bottlenecks, it also highlights a broader systemic problem where people have to resort to paid services for essential government interactions. The hope is that these issues drive reforms to simplify and streamline such processes to restore fairness and accessibility to all users.

•Well said! Services like Claimyr are helpful but it would be better if they weren't needed in the first place.

I had a similar issue with ID.me. Try clearing your browser cache and cookies, then attempt to log in again. It worked for me!

•If clearing the cache doesn't work, try using a different browser or device. Sometimes that does the trick.

Have you tried faxing your documents? I know it sounds archaic, but sometimes it works when nothing else does.

•Faxing? What year is it? 😂 But seriously, I might try that if nothing else works.

•OMG yes! Faxing saved my butt. It's like they're stuck in the 90s or smthn

Jessica Nolan
•It's funny but faxing often works because the system might prioritize those documents.
