EDD Identity Verification Letter Came Late - Risk of Disqualification?
I'm having trouble with the identity verification process for my benefits. The letter they sent asking me to identify myself came late, and I had to be in another state when it arrived. Now I'm worried about being disqualified. They give us 8 days to respond, but living in a different state means the mail doesn't come fast enough. Has anyone else dealt with this? What can I do to fix this situation?

Ugh, I feel your pain! The whole system is so messed up. I had a similar issue where I got my letter late and almost missed the deadline. It's like they expect us to be psychic or something 🙄

Email would be way better! Or even text messages. Anything but snail mail in 2023 🐌

Have you tried calling them to explain the situation? Sometimes if you can get through to a real person, they can help sort things out.

Calling is a nightmare. I spent 3 days trying to get through once. Good luck!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. Got through in about an hour.

$20 seems steep just to make a phone call...

I get that, but consider how much time and frustration it saves. Totally worth it for me.

Here's what I would do: 1. Document everything. Write down when you received the letter, when you returned from your trip, etc. 2. Try to submit your verification online if possible. Many states have online portals now. 3. If you can't do it online, overnight mail your response back ASAP. 4. Keep calling until you get through. Be prepared to wait on hold for hours. 5. If all else fails, contact your local state representative. They often have liaisons who can help with benefit issues. Good luck! The system is a mess, but don't give up. 💪

Have you checked if there's an option to request an extension due to extenuating circumstances? Some states offer that.
