Two months waiting on SDI claim after sending identity verification - still pending?
I'm at my wits' end with this SDI claim nightmare! Filed for disability back in March due to a shoulder surgery (rotator cuff tear) and they initially processed my claim without issues. Then out of nowhere in early April, I get this letter demanding additional identity verification and wage information. I sent EVERYTHING they asked for via certified mail on April 15th, and the tracking shows they received it April 18th. It's now mid-May and my claim is STILL showing as 'pending verification' in the online portal! My savings are completely depleted and I've been trying to call literally every day, sometimes 30+ times, but either get disconnected or sit on hold until the office closes. Has anyone dealt with this identity verification delay recently? How long did yours take to process after sending the documents? My doctor's office confirmed they submitted all their paperwork correctly. I'm seriously worried about getting evicted at this point.

•6 weeks?? That's insane but actually gives me a little hope since I'm at about 4 weeks since they received my verification docs. Did you ever manage to talk to anyone on the phone during your wait?

Identity verification delays are unfortunately very common with EDD SDI claims right now. Here's what you should do: 1. Continue checking your SDI Online account daily for status changes 2. Send a message through your SDI Online portal specifically mentioning that you sent identity verification on April 15th (received April 18th) 3. Request an update on the status of your verification documents 4. If you have access to a fax machine, consider faxing copies of the same documents with your claim number clearly marked on each page These identity verification holds can sometimes take 6-8 weeks to clear, but sending that message through your portal creates a documented request that they need to respond to. Make sure you also have copies of everything you sent them in case they claim they never received it.

•Thank you for the detailed advice. I didn't realize I could send a message through the portal - I'll do that right away. Do you know if faxing the documents again might somehow confuse the system or create duplicate records that could further delay things?

The EXACT same thing is happening to me right now!!! Shoulder surgery too (but mine was labrum repair). They asked for ID verification about 5 weeks ago, I sent it in, and nothing's happening. I've almost gone through all my savings too. This is RIDICULOUS!!! Why even have disability insurance if they make it impossible to actually get the benefits when you need them?!

•It's somewhat comforting to know I'm not alone, but also incredibly frustrating that this seems to be a widespread issue. Have you found any way to get through to an actual person on the phone?

After dealing with EDD SDI delays for months last year (different issue but same frustration), I finally discovered a service called Claimyr that got me through to an EDD representative in about 20 minutes. They basically call EDD repeatedly for you using their system and then connect you when they get through. Check out their website at claimyr.com - they have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd It was the only way I could actually get someone to look at my claim and resolve the verification hold. The rep I spoke with was able to manually verify my documents while I was on the phone and my payment processed three days later. Worth considering if you're still stuck.

•That's really good to know! I had no idea something like this existed. I'm going to check out that video right now. At this point, I'd try almost anything to get this resolved.

•Has anyone else used this service? Sounds too good to be true tbh, I've been trying to get through for weeks

i used that claimyr thing last month when my disability payments suddenly stopped. it worked but just know they don't fix anything for you, they just get you on the phone with EDD. the lady i talked to was able to fix my issue in like 5 minutes once i actually got through tho

•Exactly - they just solve the impossible phone connection problem. Once you actually talk to someone at EDD, most issues can be resolved pretty quickly. The hard part is just getting through.

I work in HR and we've had several employees face these SDI identity verification delays in 2025. It seems to be happening more frequently, especially with first-time claimants or those who haven't filed in several years. The verification process was added as an anti-fraud measure after the pandemic, but it's creating significant hardship. One thing to check: did you submit your most recent W-2 or just your ID documents? The wage verification often requires actual pay stubs or W-2s from your current employer. If you only sent ID documents but not wage verification, that could be the holdup. Also, check if the name on your ID exactly matches what's in the EDD system. Even minor differences (like having your middle name on one but not the other) can cause these delays.

•I sent both my driver's license, social security card, AND my W-2 from 2024, plus my two most recent pay stubs before my leave started. I made sure my name matched exactly across all documents. It's frustrating because I literally sent everything they asked for and more!

EDD is completely BROKEN!! I've been waiting 9 weeks for my pregnancy disability claim all because of some stupid "identity verification" nonsense. They have all my info already - I've worked and paid taxes in California for 12 years!! This whole system is designed to make people give up. They're probably hoping we'll all just crawl back to work injured rather than deal with their bureaucratic nightmare. I've called 457 TIMES in the past month - I've been keeping track. Know how many times I've gotten through? ZERO.

•457 times?? That's absurd! I thought my 30+ calls a day was excessive. I'm seriously considering that Claimyr service that someone mentioned above - at this point, I just need to talk to a real person who can look at my claim.

Update on the verification timeframes: I just checked with a few clients I've helped with SDI claims, and the current processing time for identity verification seems to be 6-8 weeks from receipt of documents. This is significantly longer than the 10-14 business days it was taking at the beginning of the year. One useful tip: When you do finally get through to someone, ask them to make a note in your file that you're experiencing financial hardship. They have the ability to flag claims for expedited processing in hardship cases, especially if you're facing eviction or utility shutoffs. Be prepared to provide some details about your situation if asked.

•Thank you so much for this information. I'll definitely mention the financial hardship when I get through. My landlord has been understanding so far but that won't last forever. I appreciate the specific timeframe estimate - at least it gives me something concrete to work with.

just wanted 2 add - make sure u keep certifying for ur benefits every 2 weeks even tho ur not getting paid yet! some people stop doing it when payments r delayed but then u gotta do it all retroactive later and its a huge headache

•Yes, I've been keeping up with the certifications religiously! Thankfully the certification part of the system works fine, it's just the payments that are stuck. Thanks for the reminder though - that would be awful to have to do all of them retroactively.

I went through this exact situation in February. After using Claimyr to get through to a representative, I found out that my documents were actually sitting in a queue waiting to be reviewed. The representative was able to pull them up immediately, verify that everything was in order, and manually release the hold on my account. My payment was processed within 3 business days. If you do get through, make sure to ask them specifically to check if your documents are in the system and have been scanned in but just not reviewed yet. Sometimes they'll just tell you to wait without actually looking at your specific situation.

•That's really helpful advice. I'm going to try Claimyr tomorrow morning and specifically ask them to check if my documents are in the system waiting to be reviewed. It's absurd that they might have everything they need but just haven't looked at it yet. I'm hopeful this might finally get resolved!

I'm going through something very similar right now! Filed my SDI claim in late March for a back injury, sent in identity verification documents in early April, and I'm still waiting too. It's been about 5 weeks since they received my docs. Reading through everyone's experiences here is both reassuring and terrifying - reassuring that I'm not alone, but terrifying that this could drag on for weeks more. The financial stress is unreal. I've had to ask family for help with rent and I'm rationing groceries. What really gets me is that we've been paying into this system through payroll deductions for YEARS, and when we actually need it, they make it nearly impossible to access. I'm definitely going to try that Claimyr service and the portal messaging suggestion. Has anyone had luck with contacting their state assembly member's office? I've heard they sometimes help with EDD issues but not sure if that applies to SDI claims. Hang in there everyone - we shouldn't have to fight this hard for benefits we've earned!

•I'm so sorry you're going through this too! The financial stress is absolutely crushing when you're already dealing with an injury. Regarding contacting your assembly member's office - yes, they do help with EDD/SDI issues! I actually tried this route about a week ago. You can contact your local assembly member's constituent services office and they have staff who specifically handle EDD problems. They can't guarantee faster processing, but they can make inquiries on your behalf and sometimes that extra attention helps move things along. It's worth a shot while you're also trying the Claimyr route. The combination of multiple approaches might be what finally breaks through. Stay strong - we've all paid into this system and deserve better than this bureaucratic nightmare!
