Pregnancy disability identity verification delay - 6 weeks without EDD payments
I'm going crazy with this pregnancy disability claim! I've been on bedrest for placenta previa and severe morning sickness since January 3rd (doctor ordered complete bedrest), but I STILL haven't received a single payment after SIX WEEKS. My doctor submitted all the medical certification forms right away, I filed everything correctly, and my online account showed my claim was processing normally until last week. Then suddenly I got an email requesting identity verification? I uploaded my driver's license, birth certificate, and two utility bills through the SDI Online portal two days ago, but nothing has changed in my claim status. My savings are completely drained and rent is due next week. Has anyone dealt with these identity verification requests during pregnancy disability? How long does it typically take for them to process the verification and release payments? I'm so stressed about money that it's probably making my condition worse...

I went through something similar last year with my pregnancy disability claim. The identity verification usually takes 7-10 business days to process after you submit everything. If it takes longer than that, there might be an issue with the documents you uploaded. Make sure your driver's license isn't expired and that all your documents show the same address. In my case, they rejected my first submission because my utility bill had my maiden name while my ID had my married name.

•Thank you, that's helpful to know! All my documents have my current address and name, so hopefully that won't be an issue. Did they tell you they rejected your first submission or did you have to call to find out?

•Ugh, I'm sorry you're going through this too! It's so frustrating. Did you submit your verification documents yet? If so, how long has it been?

Identity verification with EDD SDI has become much more common since early 2025 due to increased fraud prevention measures. For pregnancy disability claims specifically, the verification process typically takes 5-10 business days AFTER the documents are reviewed. The important distinction is that your documents first enter a queue to be reviewed, which can take another 3-5 business days. If you submitted your verification two days ago, realistically you're looking at potentially 2 weeks total before payments are released. However, you can request expedited processing by calling EDD and explaining your financial hardship. Make sure to mention you're on doctor-ordered bedrest for placenta previa, as medical necessity can help prioritize your claim.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! That timeline makes sense, but it's still so stressful. I've been trying to call EDD for three days but keep getting disconnected after waiting on hold for an hour+. Is there a specific number or time of day that works better for getting through?

I had this happen with my disability claim (not pregnancy related). Call them!!! Don't wait for the online system to update. Sometimes the identity verification gets approved but the system doesn't update to release payments automatically. I waited 3 extra weeks for nothing when one phone call fixed everything in 10 minutes.

•That's really good to know, thank you! I've been trying to call but haven't been able to get through to anyone. The hold times are ridiculous and I keep getting disconnected.

I went through something similar with my pregnancy disability claim back in February. The identity verification took FOREVER (almost 3 weeks) and I was about to lose my mind. I tried calling the regular EDD number every day but never got through. Finally, I found this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes. It was seriously a game-changer! They basically call EDD for you and when they get someone on the line, they connect you. The agent I spoke with was able to manually verify my identity and release my payments that same day. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd Check out their website at claimyr.com. Honestly, with placenta previa, you shouldn't be stressing about this stuff. Focus on taking care of yourself and your baby!

•Thank you SO much for this recommendation! I've literally been getting disconnected every time I call, and the stress is making everything worse. I'm going to try this service today. Did they release your back payments all at once?

Yes! Once they manually verified my identity, they released all my back payments at once. I had the money in my account two days later. The agent told me their identity verification system gets backed up sometimes, especially with pregnancy claims for some reason. But once you talk to an actual person, they can usually resolve it quickly.

•That's not helpful. The system has issues but plenty of people get their claims processed without problems. The identity verification is annoying but it's because of the massive fraud that happened during COVID. They've actually improved their processing times significantly in the past year.

Did you check if your identity verification documents meet their requirements? Sometimes they reject them for really specific reasons like if the address on your ID doesn't perfectly match your current address, or if the image quality isn't good enough. I had to submit mine twice because apparently my driver's license scan wasn't clear enough. It's so annoying!

•I think they looked clear when I uploaded them, but now I'm worried! I don't think there's any way to check if they've been accepted other than calling, right? And my DL address does match my current address, so hopefully that's not an issue.

I wanted to clarify something important about pregnancy disability claims and identity verification. Under California Code of Regulations Section 2706-2, EDD is required to process identity verification for pregnancy-related disability within 10 business days. If they exceed this timeframe, you can request interest on your delayed payments (currently 7% annually). Also, for anyone on doctor-certified bedrest for pregnancy complications, you qualify for expedited processing. When you speak with an EDD representative, specifically request "expedited processing under CCR 2706-2 for medical necessity." This exact phrasing is important. Lastly, once your identity is verified, make sure they apply it to your entire claim period. Sometimes they only release payments from the verification date forward, not the back payments you're owed.

•Thank you so much for this detailed information! I had no idea about these regulations. I'm definitely going to use that exact phrasing when I finally get through to someone. I'll use the service the other commenter recommended and hopefully get this resolved soon.

UPDATE: I used that Claimyr service someone recommended and got connected to an EDD representative in about 15 minutes! The rep confirmed my identity verification documents were received but hadn't been processed yet. She expedited the review using the exact phrasing suggested here about medical necessity and CCR 2706-2. She said my payments should be released within 48 hours, including all back payments. Such a relief! I'll update again when the money actually hits my account. Thank you all for your help!

•That's excellent news! The medical necessity expedite request really does work. Make sure to keep an eye on your EDD SDI Online account - sometimes the payment status updates there before the money actually deposits. If you don't see movement in 48 hours, call back and reference your previous call (get a reference number if possible).

FINAL UPDATE: All my payments came through today! Six weeks of back pay all at once. Such a huge relief. For anyone dealing with identity verification issues on their pregnancy disability claim, definitely call and specifically ask for expedited processing due to medical necessity. Thanks again everyone for your help!

Congratulations on getting your payments resolved, Madison! Your story gives me so much hope. I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant with severe morning sickness and have been waiting 3 weeks for my identity verification to process. I submitted all my documents but haven't heard anything back. After reading through all these comments, I'm definitely going to try that Claimyr service and use the specific phrasing about CCR 2706-2 for medical necessity. It's so stressful being sick AND worrying about money at the same time. Thank you for sharing your experience and keeping us updated - it really helps to know there's light at the end of the tunnel!

•I'm so sorry you're dealing with this too, Carmen! The combination of severe morning sickness and financial stress is absolutely awful. Definitely try the Claimyr service - it really was a game changer for getting through to someone quickly. When you talk to the EDD rep, make sure to emphasize that you're on doctor's orders for your pregnancy complications and specifically request "expedited processing under CCR 2706-2 for medical necessity" like William mentioned. Also, don't be afraid to mention that the financial stress is potentially impacting your pregnancy health - they seemed to take that seriously when I called. Hoping you get your payments sorted out soon! Keep us posted on how it goes.
