EDD SDI: Approved claim, no debit card after 2 weeks, account locked - What to do?
I filed my unemployment claim and got approved by the doctor, but I'm having issues. The system shows I've been paid, but I haven't received my debit card yet. It's been over 2 weeks already! To make matters worse, I just found out my account is locked. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do when I call them? I'm worried about not having access to my money.

Is anyone else sick and tired of this bs? We need to organize and demand better service. This is our money were talking about! 💢

•I'm down. What do you suggest? Protest? Petition?

•Both! Let's start a Change.org petition and plan a protest at the EDD office. Who's with me? ✊

•Power in numbers, definitely. Even a well-worded letter-writing campaign can help. Let's make our voices heard!

Hey OP, if you're still waiting, try calling right when they open. I got through after only 20 minutes on hold that way. Good luck!

•Timing is everything! Early morning calls seem to have shorter wait times.

Yall ever wonder if theyre doing this on purpose? Like, making it so hard to get benefits that people just give up? 🤔 #conspiracytheory

•Nah, never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence. EDD is just a hot mess.

•True, but it's frustrating nonetheless. They need to overhaul their system for sure.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's highway robbery! 😡

•Sounds sketchy. How do you know it's legit?

•I get the skepticism, but I was desperate. It actually worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

•How long did you have to wait after using the service?

•It's definitely a pricey option, but for those who don't have the time to sit on hold for hours, it could be a valuable service. Just make sure to weigh the cost vs. your needs.

•I'd say if you're considering using Claimyr, read through some reviews and see what others experienced. Due diligence is important with services like these.

Update: Finally got through! They said my card was never mailed due to a "system glitch". 🙄 They're sending a new one and unlocked my account. Thanks for all the advice, everyone!

Have you tried checking your mail carefully? Sometimes the card comes in a plain envelope and looks like junk mail. I almost threw mine away by accident! 🤦♂️

•Yeah, I've been checking everyday. Nothing yet. Getting worried it might have been stolen or lost in the mail. 😓

•If it was stolen, you need to report it ASAP! Call EDD and ask them to cancel the old card and send a new one. Better safe than sorry!

•Also, you might want to consider signing up for informed delivery with USPS. It can help you see what mail is coming your way in advance.

Ugh, I feel your pain. The EDD system is a total nightmare rn. Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your claim info and ID 2. When you call, explain that your claim is approved but no card 3. Tell them your account is locked 4. Ask when the card was sent and how to unlock your account 5. Get a reference number for the call Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

•I followed this advice, but make sure to have pen and paper ready too. You'll want to jot down the name of the agent you speak with and time of the call. Details help if you need to follow up again!

Have you tried reaching out to your local assemblymember or state senator? They can sometimes help speed things up with EDD. Worth a shot!

•That's actually solid advice. Sometimes political pressure can really move things along. Elected officials can be surprisingly helpful!

Getting through to EDD can indeed be a challenging process. As many have pointed out, using the Claimyr service can be an effective way to navigate the frustrating wait times, especially if you're in dire need of speaking with an EDD agent. While it does cost $20, for some, the expense may be justified by the time and stress it saves. However, it's always important to weigh the cost against your personal circumstances and consider reading reviews or doing some research to ensure its legitimacy. In addition, as suggested, reaching out to local political representatives may also prove beneficial as they can sometimes expedite the process. It's also crucial to keep detailed records of all communications with EDD, including names and reference numbers, as these can be helpful in case of any follow-up. Lastly, once you receive your EDD debit card, it's recommended to transfer funds to your personal bank account promptly to avoid any potential card issues. This situation highlights the larger issue of systemic inefficiencies and the necessity for reform in handling unemployment claims. Stay persistent, and remember that there are community resources and support available to assist you.

Pro tip: Once you get your card, immediately transfer the money to your personal bank account. Don't leave it on the EDD card. Those things are notorious for getting frozen or hacked.

•Agreed! Also, transferring to your bank account keeps better track of your transactions.

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes EDD emails end up there. Might have info about your account being locked.

•This happened to me! I found an important email a week too late. Always check your spam folder.

Protip: If you get through, ask them to expedite your card. They can do that, but won't unless you specifically request it. Learned that the hard way. 🙄

•When I called, they were able to expedite my card, but it took me insisting on it. Don't be afraid to be firm but polite!

•I know it's frustrating, but maybe try their online chat option if calling isn't working. Sometimes you get different agents there.
