EDD: No benefits for 14+ days, what to do?

Hey everyone, I'm in a tough spot. It's been over 2 weeks since I last got my unemployment benefits. Anyone else dealing with this? Any ideas on what I should do? I'm getting worried about bills piling up.

Amy Fleming

Ugh, I feel you. I was in the same boat last month. Have you tried calling EDD? It's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way to get answers.

I've been trying to call for days but can't get through. It's so frustrating! 😤

Pro tip: call right when they open. Set an alarm and start dialing at 7:59 AM. Sometimes you can get through before the lines get jammed.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20 just to make a phone call? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 🤦‍♂️

I know it sounds crazy, but it seriously worked for me. After weeks of trying, I finally got through and sorted out my issue. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do 🤷‍♀️

Can you give more details about how it works? I'm desperate at this point.

Sure! You just go to their website, choose the EDD line you need to call, pay, and they start calling. When they get a real person, your phone rings and you're connected. Saved me hours of frustration.

Have you checked your UI Online account? Sometimes there are messages or requests for additional info that can hold up your payments.

This happened to me too! Turns out there was a glitch in the system and a bunch of us didn't get paid. Keep calling and check your account for any notices. It took about 3 weeks, but I finally got my backpay.

Oh man, I hope that's what happened to me too. Did you have to do anything special to get the backpay?

Nah, once they fixed the glitch it just showed up in my account. But def keep bugging them!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Check your UI Online account for any pending tasks or messages. 2. Make sure you've been certifying for benefits every two weeks. 3. If there are no issues on your account, you need to contact EDD. 4. Try calling early in the morning or late in the day. 5. If you can't get through, consider using the AskEDD feature on their website to submit a question. 6. As a last resort, contact your local assembly member's office. They can sometimes help push things through. Remember, if it's a system-wide issue, it might resolve on its own, but it's always better to be proactive. Don't wait too long before taking action. Good luck!

This is great advice. I'd add: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every online interaction. It can help if you need to appeal later.

Hey, hang in there! I know it's tough, but it'll get sorted out. Have you tried reaching out to your local assemblyperson? They sometimes have connections and can help speed things up.

PSA: If anyone's having trouble getting through to EDD, I've heard good things about this service called Claimyr. It apparently calls for you and connects you when there's a real person. Costs like $20 but might be worth it if you're desperate. https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

I used it last week and it worked! Felt weird paying for a call but it saved me so much time and stress.

Lol I promise I don't work for them. Just sharing what worked for me. But yeah, do your own research!

idk if this helps but I had a similar issue and it turned out I had answered one of the certification questions wrong. Double check all your answers!
