Have you checked your mail? Sometimes they send updates through snail mail that don't show up online. I know, it's like we're living in 1995 or something 🙄
Just wanted to chime in as someone who's been through this nightmare recently. I actually had success using a combination of the strategies mentioned here. First, I tried calling right at 8am when they open (thanks @Nathaniel Mikhaylov for that tip!), but when that didn't work after a few days, I sent a detailed email to the address @Eva St. Cyr shared. In the email, I included my claim number, social security number, and a clear timeline of my situation. Got a response in 4 business days with my claim status. Also, don't sleep on contacting your local assembly member's office - they have caseworkers who can help navigate EDD issues. It's frustrating that we have to jump through so many hoops, but hang in there! The system is broken but there are ways to work around it.
This is super helpful! Thanks for sharing your experience @Ethan Wilson. I'm definitely going to try the email route first since that seems less frustrating than sitting on hold for hours. Quick question - when you emailed them, did you put anything specific in the subject line to get their attention?
I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Just got married last month and changed my name, and I've been getting that E311 error constantly. Reading through all these responses is super helpful - I had no idea there were so many steps involved. It sounds like I need to get my SSA records updated first, then do the DE 1101 form, AND make sure my employer has everything updated too. This is way more complicated than I expected! Has anyone had success just waiting it out, or do you really need to be proactive about updating everything manually? I'm hoping there's a way to avoid the whole runaround but it doesn't sound like it 😩
Unfortunately you really do need to be proactive about it - I tried waiting it out for about 2 months and the error never cleared on its own. The systems just don't automatically sync up after name changes. I know it seems like a lot of steps but trust me, it's better to just bite the bullet and do all the updates now rather than deal with months of frustration. Start with SSA first like Julia mentioned, then work your way through the other agencies. I made a checklist and knocked them out one by one - SSA, EDD, DMV, bank, employer, etc. It took about a month total but everything finally synced up properly. You got this! 💪
I went through this exact same situation when I got married 6 months ago! The E311 error is so frustrating but totally fixable. Here's what I learned: you HAVE to update your info in the right order or it won't work. First - Social Security Administration (this is crucial!), then wait 2-3 weeks, then EDD. I also had to update my info with my previous employer's payroll department because my W-2 still had my maiden name. The whole process took about a month but once everything was synced up, the error disappeared. Don't try to skip steps or do them out of order - I learned that the hard way! Also keep copies of EVERYTHING you submit. The paperwork trail will save you if anything gets lost in their system. Hang in there, you'll get through this! 🤗
Thank you so much for laying out the exact order! This is super helpful - I was about to just randomly start updating everything without realizing the sequence matters. It's reassuring to hear from someone who actually got through the whole process successfully. I'm definitely going to follow your step-by-step approach. Quick question - when you say wait 2-3 weeks after updating SSA, is that just to make sure their system has time to process the change before EDD tries to verify against it? I'm eager to get this resolved but don't want to mess it up by being impatient! 😅
Two months is way too long! I went through something similar last year. Here's what finally got things moving for me: 1. Call the EDD disability line at 8am SHARP - they open at 8 and that's your best shot at getting through 2. When you get the automated menu, press 1-2-4 (that usually gets you to a human faster) 3. Have your Social Security number, claim number, and the exact dates you filed ready 4. Ask them to check if your claim is "pending" or if there's a "stop payment" flag 5. Request they email you a summary of your call Also, check if your doctor submitted the medical certification form properly - that's a common holdup. I had to bug my doctor's office twice because they "forgot" to send it. Don't give up! The system is broken but you deserve your benefits. Keep calling every day if you have to.
I'm going through the exact same thing! Filed my SDI claim in early January and it's been crickets from EDD. The stress of waiting is almost worse than the disability itself. I've been following all the advice here - calling at 8am sharp, checking my online account daily, even considered that fax idea (which honestly doesn't sound that crazy anymore 😅). Has anyone had luck with the "escalation" process? I keep hearing people mention it but not sure how to actually request one. Also, @Lauren Johnson - your step-by-step guide is gold! Going to try those exact menu options tomorrow morning. Solidarity to everyone dealing with this mess. We shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get the benefits we've paid into! 💪
I just went through this exact same nightmare last month! The future date typo is 100% what's causing your delay - I put 2025 instead of 2024 on mine and it held up my payments for over two weeks. Here's my step-by-step game plan that finally worked: 1. Call at exactly 8:00 AM (I literally had a countdown timer going) 2. Have your Social Security number, claim number, and the specific incorrect date ready 3. Tell them it's a "date entry error causing a system flag on DE 2593 form" 4. Ask for a "manual system override" (use those exact words - it helps) 5. Get the rep's full name, employee ID, and case reference number 6. Ask them to put a note in your file about the correction The rep I got was actually super understanding once I explained it was obviously a typo (who has surgery in the future, right?). She fixed it immediately and my payment processed 3 days later. Pro tip: If the first rep seems confused or unhelpful, politely ask to speak with someone in the "technical corrections department." That's apparently where they handle these system flag issues. You're not alone in this - their system is ridiculously sensitive but it IS fixable! 🤞
This is such a detailed and helpful breakdown! I'm bookmarking this comment for when I call tomorrow morning. I love that you included the specific phrases to use like "manual system override" and "technical corrections department" - having that exact language will probably make a huge difference in getting the right help quickly. The countdown timer idea is genius too! It's so reassuring to hear that the rep was understanding about the obvious typo once you explained it. I'm feeling much more confident about resolving this now. Thank you for taking the time to write out such a comprehensive game plan! 🙏
I had the exact same issue a couple months ago! Put 2025 instead of 2024 on my surgery date and it created such a mess. The system definitely flags future dates automatically. Here's what worked for me: call EDD at exactly 8:00 AM, explain it's a date typo causing a system flag, and ask them to manually correct it. The rep I spoke with said this happens ALL the time and they can usually fix it during the call. Make sure to get their name and a reference number. Once they corrected mine, payment came through in about 3 days. It's super frustrating but totally fixable - don't stress too much! The key is just getting through to someone who understands what happened. Good luck! 🤞
Thanks for sharing your experience! It's so helpful to hear from multiple people who've dealt with this exact same issue. I'm definitely feeling more confident about calling tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM sharp. It's reassuring to know that the reps are familiar with this problem and can usually fix it on the spot. I'll make sure to get their name and reference number too. Really appreciate everyone in this community sharing their stories - it makes dealing with EDD so much less scary when you know others have successfully navigated the same problems! 🙌

I'm new to SDI and this is exactly the kind of info I needed to know! I haven't had any payment issues yet, but my biggest fear is having something go wrong and not understanding what's happening with my benefits. It's really reassuring to see that when EDD does manual processing and your payment day shifts, it's actually a normal part of their system and not a sign that something is broken with your claim. The fact that everyone here confirms it becomes consistent on the new day once it shifts is so helpful. Thanks for asking this question and to everyone who shared their experiences - this gives me so much peace of mind about what to expect if I ever need manual processing done on my claim!

•You're so welcome! I'm really glad this thread has been helpful for people who are new to SDI. When I first posted this question, I was honestly pretty panicked because I thought something had gone wrong with my claim. But seeing everyone's experiences and especially hearing from people like Benjamin who used to work at EDD has been so reassuring. It's frustrating that EDD doesn't really explain this payment day shift when they do manual processing, but at least we can help each other understand what's normal. Wishing you smooth sailing with your SDI claim - hopefully you won't need any manual processing, but if you do, at least now you'll know what to expect!

I'm dealing with this exact situation right now too! My SDI payments were coming on Tuesdays for the first month, then last week EDD had to manually process a payment because of some issue with my medical certification. Now I'm sitting here on what would normally be my payment day with nothing in my account. Reading through everyone's experiences here is so helpful - it sounds like I should expect my new payment day to be Wednesday or Thursday based on the pattern others have described. It's really frustrating that EDD doesn't give you a heads up about this when they do the manual processing, but at least knowing it's normal and will be consistent on the new day makes me feel better. I'll wait until Thursday and then call if nothing shows up. Thanks for posting this question - you've helped so many people understand what's happening with their claims!

•Hey Malik! I'm really glad this thread has been helpful for you too. It sounds like you're in the exact same situation I was in - that anxious feeling of waiting on what should be your normal payment day and seeing nothing! Based on everyone's experiences here, you're absolutely right to expect your payment to come Wednesday or Thursday. The waiting is definitely the hardest part, especially when you're depending on those benefits. But knowing that this is just how their system works after manual processing (and that it'll be consistent on whatever new day it lands on) makes such a difference. Definitely wait until Thursday like you planned, and hopefully you'll see your payment come through tomorrow or Thursday. Keep us posted on how it goes - I think your experience will help other people who find themselves in the same boat!
