I'm in a similar situation right now - my disability started in February but EDD took until May to approve my claim. I'm really worried about hitting that 52-week mark from my disability onset date even though I haven't received a full year of payments yet. Reading through everyone's responses, it sounds like the surgical complications might be your best bet for an extension. I'd definitely recommend getting that paperwork submitted as soon as possible. From what I've heard, EDD is pretty strict about deadlines. Has anyone else here successfully gotten an extension approved? I'm curious what kind of documentation they actually accepted and how long the approval process took.
I haven't personally gotten an extension approved, but I work with a lot of people who have tried. From what I've seen, the key is having your doctor provide extremely detailed medical records showing that your condition has significantly worsened or that new complications have developed that weren't part of the original disability. The documentation needs to clearly explain why you need MORE time than originally anticipated - not just that you still need time. EDD seems to look for evidence that something unexpected happened that changed your recovery timeline. Surgery complications, new diagnoses related to the original condition, or documented setbacks in healing tend to have the best success rates. The approval process usually takes 4-6 weeks from what I've observed, so definitely don't wait if you're close to your 52-week mark. And make sure your doctor uses specific medical terminology rather than general statements about needing more time.
I went through something very similar last year with my back surgery. My original disability claim was approved for spinal fusion, but then I developed a serious infection at the surgical site that required two additional surgeries and months of IV antibiotics. EDD initially cut me off at the 52-week mark, but my surgeon submitted detailed documentation about the infection complications - including culture results, surgical notes, and a detailed treatment plan. The key was that my doctor explicitly stated this was an "unforeseen complication that significantly altered the expected recovery timeline" and provided specific medical evidence of why I needed an additional 16 weeks of recovery. It took about 5 weeks to get approved, but they did grant the extension. Make sure your surgeon uses very clinical language and includes specific dates, test results, and medical reasoning. Don't let them just say "needs more time" - they need to explain WHY the complications changed your original prognosis. Good luck with your extension request! The paperwork is annoying but definitely worth pursuing if you have legitimate surgical complications.
This is really helpful information! I'm new to this community and dealing with a similar situation. My question is - when you say your surgeon used "clinical language," do you have any specific examples of the type of wording that worked? I'm worried my doctor might not know exactly what EDD is looking for in terms of documentation. Also, did you have to submit any additional medical records beyond what your surgeon provided, like test results or imaging reports? I want to make sure I give my doctor all the guidance they need to write an effective letter for the extension request.
UPDATE: I finally got through to EDD this morning! Used that Claimyr service someone mentioned and it actually worked - got connected to a rep in about 20 minutes. Turns out there was a problem with my medical certification. My doctor submitted it, but they used an older version of the form that didn't have all the required information. The EDD rep said they sent a request for updated info to my doctor's office TWO WEEKS AGO but nobody told me! I immediately called my doctor and they're submitting the correct form today. The rep said once they receive it, I should get paid within 2-3 business days. Fingers crossed! For anyone else waiting on payments - definitely try to get through to someone on the phone. There might be an issue you don't know about.
Thanks for the update! This is exactly why it's so important to get through to a representative when payments are delayed. There's often something specific holding up your claim that you'd never know about otherwise. Glad you're getting it resolved!
This is such a common issue unfortunately! I went through something similar last year and the stress of waiting for that first payment while bills pile up is absolutely awful. One thing that helped me was documenting everything - keep records of when you certified, when you called, what your doctor's office told you, etc. Sometimes EDD will ask for this information later. Also, if you haven't already, make sure you're checking your SDI Online account daily. Sometimes they'll post messages or requests for additional information that aren't obvious at first glance. Look under any "Messages" or "Correspondence" sections. Really glad you got through and found out what the actual problem was! It's so frustrating that they don't proactively notify you when there are issues with your claim. Hope you get paid soon!
This is really helpful advice about documenting everything! I wish I had started keeping better records from the beginning. I'm definitely going to start writing down all my calls and interactions going forward. And you're right about checking the online account - I was mostly just looking at the main status page but didn't think to dig deeper into other sections. Thanks for the tips!
I'm 33 weeks pregnant and just filed my SDI claim two days ago. When I logged in to check the status, I was shocked to see they have me listed under a food service job I worked at for only 8 weeks last summer ($12/hour) instead of my current position as a registered nurse where I've been for 4 years ($46/hour). I was having a complete meltdown thinking my disability benefits would be calculated based on those minimum wage food service earnings! But after reading through this entire thread, I feel SO much better. It's incredible how many people have experienced this exact same employer display issue, and even more reassuring that everyone's benefits ended up being calculated correctly based on their actual higher wages. The consistency of these success stories really gives me confidence that EDD's system works properly behind the scenes even when the display looks completely wrong. I'm definitely going to follow everyone's advice and wait for my notice of computation instead of trying to battle through their impossible phone system. Thank you all for sharing your experiences - this thread has been a total lifesaver for my anxiety! I'll update once I get my approval notice to hopefully add another positive outcome to this amazing collection of stories.
Oh my goodness, the wage difference you're dealing with is huge - $12/hour vs $46/hour as an RN! I would have been having a complete meltdown too. I'm only 20 weeks pregnant but already worried about filing my own claim in a few months after reading about all these potential complications. But this thread has been such an eye-opener - it's amazing how this employer display glitch seems to affect people across so many different professions, yet everyone's getting their correct benefit amounts based on their actual wages. Your nursing salary should definitely result in much better disability benefits than those food service wages! It's so reassuring to see how many healthcare workers specifically have shared their experiences here and had everything work out correctly despite the scary display issue. I'm definitely bookmarking this thread for when it's my turn to file - thank you for adding your story to this incredible collection of experiences that's helping so many expectant moms!
I'm 23 weeks pregnant and haven't filed my claim yet, but this thread has been absolutely invaluable to read! I had no idea this employer display issue was so common. I currently work as a marketing coordinator ($28/hour) but had a brief retail job last year ($11/hour), so I'll definitely be prepared if they show the wrong employer when I file in a few months. It's so reassuring to see that despite this scary-looking glitch, everyone's benefits are getting calculated correctly based on their actual wage history. Thank you all for documenting your experiences so thoroughly - you're saving so many future moms from unnecessary panic attacks! I'll definitely come back to share my own experience when the time comes.
This is such a smart approach - doing your research ahead of time! I wish I had known about this display issue before I filed my claim. The wage difference between your marketing role and retail job ($28 vs $11/hour) is definitely significant enough that seeing the wrong employer would be really alarming. But you're so well-prepared now! Reading through all these success stories from people in healthcare, education, finance, and other fields really shows how reliable the system is behind the scenes, even when the display looks wrong. When you file in a few months, you'll have so much more peace of mind knowing this is just a common cosmetic glitch that doesn't affect calculations. Definitely come back and add your experience to this thread - it's becoming such a valuable resource for expectant mothers navigating SDI claims!
I've been lurking on this thread because I'm dealing with the exact same issue - my 2525 form never showed up either and my certification deadline is in just a few days! Reading through everyone's experiences here has been incredibly helpful. I'm definitely going to try that email approach to eddcorrespondence@edd.ca.gov first thing tomorrow with "URGENT: Missing Form 2525" in the subject line like @Jasmine Hancock suggested. It sounds like that's had the best success rate based on what people are sharing here. If that doesn't work fast enough, I'll try the early morning calling strategy and maybe even look into that fax option someone mentioned. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through all these hoops just to get a basic form, but I appreciate everyone sharing what actually works in practice. @Adrian Connor - hoping you get this resolved soon! Please update us on whether the email method works for you. This whole thread is going to help so many people dealing with the same mail delivery nightmare. 🤞
Same here! I've been following this thread closely because I'm in an almost identical situation. My 2525 form disappeared into the postal void somewhere and my deadline is creeping up fast too. It's both comforting and concerning that this seems to be such a widespread issue right now. I'm planning to send that urgent email first thing tomorrow morning as well. The fact that so many people have had success with that specific approach gives me some hope. If we all send emails around the same time, maybe they'll realize how big this mail delivery problem really is! @Adrian Connor @Vanessa Chang - would love to hear updates from both of you on how the email method goes. Maybe we can all compare notes on response times and what worked best. Fingers crossed we all get this sorted before our deadlines! 🤞
I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm dealing with the exact same issue - my EDD 2525 form never arrived and my deadline is approaching fast. It's honestly both relieving and infuriating to see how many of us are going through this same mail delivery nightmare. Based on all the great advice shared here, I'm planning to: 1. Send an urgent email to eddcorrespondence@edd.ca.gov tomorrow morning with the exact subject line format @Jasmine Hancock suggested 2. Try calling right when they open at 8am if the email doesn't get a quick response 3. Document everything along the way It's absolutely ridiculous that we have to become experts at navigating a broken system just to get basic forms we're entitled to, but I really appreciate everyone sharing their real-world solutions here. This community is honestly more helpful than the actual EDD customer service! @Adrian Connor - really hoping that email method works for you! Please keep us posted on your progress. And thanks for starting this thread - you've probably helped dozens of people who are dealing with the same issue. 🙏

I had this exact same issue a few months ago - so stressful when you're depending on that money! What worked for me was calling the 1-800-480-3287 number right at 8am when they open. The wait times are brutal later in the day. When you do get through, ask them to check for any "payment blocks" or "verification flags" on your account. In my case, they needed me to verify my identity again even though I'd already done it. The whole thing got resolved within 48 hours once I knew what the actual problem was. Also, make sure to ask for a reference number for your call - it helps if you need to call back. Hang in there, it will get sorted out! 💪

•Great tip about calling right at 8am! I've noticed that too - the earlier you call, the better your chances. The verification flag thing is so annoying though - like why don't they just tell you upfront what's needed instead of making you guess? 🤦♀️ Thanks for mentioning the reference number too, that's smart!

I feel your frustration - this happened to me too! When mine showed "processed" but didn't arrive, it turned out there was an issue with my direct deposit info. Even though I thought everything was correct, there was apparently a small formatting error in my account number that caused the payment to bounce back. Here's what I'd recommend: • Log into your online account and triple-check your banking details • Call and ask them to verify the account info on file matches exactly what you have • Ask if there were any "returned payment" notices In my case, once we fixed the bank info, they were able to reissue the payment pretty quickly. It's worth checking this first before assuming it's just a processing delay. The waiting game is the worst part, but don't give up! Keep calling until you get answers.

•This is such good advice! The banking info thing is so easy to overlook but can cause huge delays. I've seen people miss one digit in their routing number and it holds everything up for weeks. It's frustrating that the system doesn't give you better error messages when this happens - it just sits there saying "processed" while your payment is bouncing around somewhere. Definitely worth double and triple checking all those details!
