Extra CalFresh allotment not deposited today - anyone else waiting?
Was checking my EBT balance all morning cause I heard we were supposed to get those extra CalFresh benefits today (March 10th). My regular benefits came through last week but nothing extra showing up yet. Been waiting on these since my family really needs the help with groceries getting so expensive lately. Is anyone else still waiting? Did they announce a delay or something? My caseworker never gives me straight answers about when extra benefits drop.

•Your neighbor already got the extra amount?? Now I'm really confused. Did she get it today or earlier? Maybe they're doing a rollout based on case numbers or something?

What extra benefits are you referring to specifically? There's no scheduled special allotment for March 2025 that I'm aware of. The emergency allotments that gave households the maximum benefit amount for their household size ended back in April 2023. Now CalFresh benefits are back to being calculated based on your household income and expenses only. There was a regular COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) increase in October 2024, but that should already be reflected in your regular benefits. Are you perhaps referring to a county-specific supplement?

•Wait, really? I could have sworn I read something about extra benefits for March on the BenefitsCal website. Now I'm confused. Maybe I misunderstood something my caseworker said at my last recertification about adjustments coming soon. So there's definitely no extra amount coming then?

CalFresh benefits specialist here. There is often confusion around benefit issuance dates and special programs. Regular CalFresh benefits are issued over the first 10 days of each month based on the last digit of your case number. As others have mentioned, the pandemic emergency allotments ended in 2023. What you might be referring to is the California Food Assistance Program (CFAP) supplement that was approved for eligible households in certain counties. These are scheduled to begin mid-March, but the exact date varies by county, and not all counties are participating in the first phase. I'd recommend checking your BenefitsCal account for any notices about the CFAP supplement or calling your county office to confirm if you're eligible for this specific program and when it will be issued.

•Thank you for clarifying! This must be what I was thinking of. I'll check my BenefitsCal account again for any notices about the CFAP supplement. Is there any way to know which counties are included in the first phase?

I spent TWO HOURS on hold with my county office last week trying to ask about exactly this!!! Got disconnected TWICE and gave up. The system is BROKEN! I'm also waiting for this extra payment thing and my rent is due next week and I was counting on this for groceries so I could use my paycheck for rent. Why can't they EVER communicate clearly about these things?!?!?!

•I had the same issue trying to get through to the county office! It was beyond frustrating. I finally used this service called Claimyr that actually got me through to a real person after being disconnected multiple times. Saved me hours of frustration. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 and their website is claimyr.com. Much better than the constant disconnects or waiting on hold forever just to ask a simple question about benefit deposits.

•Thanks for the info! I have 3 kids so maybe I do qualify. I'll go through my mail pile again - it's possible I got something and didn't read it carefully. The 15th makes more sense since that's usually when other benefits come through.

To clarify for everyone in this thread: the CFAP supplement is being distributed to eligible households in phases: - Phase 1 (March 15): Households with children under 18 - Phase 2 (March 25): Households with seniors (60+) or disabled members - Phase 3 (April 1): All other eligible households The current participating counties are: Alameda, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, and Santa Clara. More counties will be added in the coming months. To check eligibility, look for a notice titled "CFAP Supplement Eligibility Notice" in your BenefitsCal account or mail. The amount varies based on household size. This is separate from your regular CalFresh benefits.

Update for everyone: I just checked my mail more carefully and found the notice about the CFAP supplement! I'm in Sacramento County with 3 kids, so looks like I should expect it on March 15th. The letter says it's a one-time supplemental payment to help with rising food costs. Thanks everyone for helping me figure this out! I was looking for it today because I misunderstood the date.
