Missing CalFresh emergency allotment for the 25th - anyone else not getting theirs?

Hey everyone, so according to my CalFresh app, I was supposed to receive extra emergency allotment stamps on the 25th this month but nothing showed up on my EBT card. I checked my balance multiple times yesterday and today - absolutely nothing added. Has this happened to anyone else in California? Is there some kind of delay or did they cancel the extra benefits without telling us? My family was counting on those extra funds for groceries this week. Getting worried since I've got 3 kids to feed and prices are insane these days.

That's so weird that your neighbor got theirs but we didn't. Wonder if it's being done in batches or something? Did you try calling the EBT customer service?

Emergency allotments for CalFresh actually ended back in April 2023. California was providing extra benefits during the COVID public health emergency, but those additional benefits stopped after the federal emergency declaration ended. The regular monthly benefits are still being issued on your normal issuance date based on the last digit of your case number, but there are no more 'extra' benefits on the 25th anymore. Your app might be showing outdated information if it hasn't been updated recently.

Wait what?? So there are NO extra benefits anymore at all? The app literally says I'll get them on the 25th. That's really misleading! So we're just stuck with the regular amount now? My benefits barely last two weeks as it is with these prices.

THEY NEVER TELL US ANYTHING!!!! I was counting on that money too and now my kids won't have enough food for the month. This system is BROKEN. Why would the app still tell us we're getting something if we're not?? So typical of them to just cut benefits without properly informing people who DEPEND on this assistance! 😡

I went through something similar last month - thought I was getting extra benefits but nothing showed up. I called the county office and after being on hold FOREVER they explained that the emergency allotments ended in 2023. The weird thing is some counties in California have their own supplemental programs now, so maybe your neighbor is getting something different? The regular CalFresh amount should still load on your normal issuance date though.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Do you know which counties have supplemental programs? I'm in Los Angeles County - not sure if we have anything extra here. I'll try calling tomorrow but ugh, the wait times are always horrible.

The CalFresh app can be really confusing! I struggled with this same issue a few months ago. As others mentioned, the emergency allotments ended, but what might be happening is you're looking at an outdated notification or message in the app. What's your normal issuance date? That's the only date you should expect benefits now - it's based on the last digit of your case number (like if your case ends in 3, you get benefits on the 3rd of each month).

My normal issuance date is the 10th, and I did receive my regular benefits then. But the app specifically showed another deposit for the 25th labeled as 'emergency allotment' - that's why I was expecting it. I guess the app is just wrong then? Really disappointing since we were counting on that extra help.

Hey there, I work with clients navigating CalFresh issues regularly. The emergency allotments definitely ended in April 2023, but I've seen several cases where the BenefitsCal app or account still shows outdated information about these supplemental benefits. Unfortunately, this creates a lot of confusion and false expectations. \n\nIf you're having trouble reaching the county office (which is extremely common), I'd recommend trying Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to a live person at the county CalFresh office without the endless hold times. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 showing how it works. Might save you hours of frustration trying to get answers about your benefits.

Thank you for this suggestion! I've literally spent hours on hold before only to get disconnected. I'll check out that service - at this point I just need answers about why my app is showing incorrect information and if there are any county supplements I might qualify for.

the emergency allotments are gone but did you check if ur income reporting threshold changed? sometimes if ur income went up or household size changed they reduce benefits without tellin u. happened to me last year and i had to do a whole appeal thing

My income and household size have stayed the same, but that's a good point. Maybe something else triggered a change in my file. Definitely need to talk to someone at the county to figure this out.

One more thing to check - make sure you've submitted your Semi-Annual Report (SAR7) if it was due recently. If you miss submitting that form, your benefits can be reduced or terminated. Also, 2025 brought some changes to the income limits and benefit calculations, so some households saw adjustments to their benefit amounts this year. \n\nFor a family of 4 in California, the maximum monthly benefit is now around $1,015, but the actual amount depends on your income, expenses, and household composition. It might be worth asking for a recalculation if you think your benefits are too low for your situation.

I submitted my SAR7 back in January, so that should be fine. I didn't know about the 2025 changes though - maybe they recalculated something? I'll definitely ask about that when I finally get through to someone. Thanks for the helpful information!

This is true! Some counties have their own food assistance supplements, especially in higher cost-of-living areas. San Francisco, for example, has SFHOME which provides additional food benefits to some residents. Los Angeles has some neighborhood-specific programs too. Check with your local food bank too - many have additional distribution programs that don't require separate applications if you already have CalFresh.

Try calling super early in the morning when they first open. I've had better luck getting through around 8:05am rather than later in the day. But yeah they should have made an actual announcement about ending the extra benefits instead of just quietly cutting them off! People plan their monthly budgets around this stuff!

Just joined this community and seeing this thread - I'm having the exact same issue! Been waiting for emergency allotment that never came. Really frustrating that the app still shows outdated info about benefits that ended almost 2 years ago. My family was counting on that extra money too. Going to try calling early morning like Paolo suggested and also check out that Claimyr service Natasha mentioned. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - at least now I know I'm not the only one dealing with this confusing situation!
