Missing CalFresh Emergency Allotment - anyone else not received theirs yet?

Hey everyone, I'm getting really worried. I normally get my regular CalFresh benefits on the 10th, which came through fine. But I was supposed to get the emergency supplement amount too and it's been 5 days now with nothing showing up on my EBT card. Has anyone else not gotten their extra food stamps this month? My neighbor said she got hers 3 days ago. I called the EBT customer service line but it just keeps putting me in this automated loop. I have 3 kids to feed and was really counting on those extra benefits this month. Is there a delay happening or should I be concerned something's wrong with my case?

The emergency allotments for CalFresh ended back in April 2023. They were a temporary increase during the COVID-19 pandemic, but they're not being issued anymore. Your regular benefits are the only ones you should expect now. What might be confusing you is that there was a regular cost-of-living increase to CalFresh benefits in October 2024, so your benefit amount might have increased slightly then.

Wait what??? Nobody told me they ended! My caseworker literally said last month I'd be getting extra benefits this month. Are you 100% sure about this? This is devastating news for my family...

i think ur neighbor might be confused too lol. i havent gotten any extra payments in YEARS now. the pandemic extras stopped ages ago. what ur neighbor might have got was maybe her regular benefits? everyones on different payment schedules based on case number.

This is so frustrating! My worker definitely mentioned extra benefits for January. Could it be some other special payment? Maybe a retroactive adjustment or something?

The previous responses are correct - emergency allotments ended. However, there could be three possible explanations for what you're experiencing: 1. Your caseworker might have been referring to a specific supplement for your case (like a correction for underpayment) 2. There could be a seasonal or one-time supplement for certain counties that was approved (some counties occasionally get disaster supplements) 3. Your case might have had an income change that resulted in an increase starting this month The best way to get clarity is to contact your county office directly to ask about your specific case. Unfortunately, this can be incredibly difficult with the phone wait times.

Thank you! This makes more sense. I did report an income decrease when my hours got cut last month, so maybe that's what my worker was referring to. I've been trying to get through on the phone for days with no luck. It's so frustrating!

I had a similar situation last year. Spent days trying to call my county office. Finally found a service called Claimyr that got me through to a real person in 20 minutes instead of waiting on hold all day. It calls for you and then connects you when a worker picks up. Saved me so much stress! I think their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8

The benefits system is DESIGNED to confuse people like this!!! They constantly change programs without properly notifying recipients. Then when you call for clarification, they make it IMPOSSIBLE to reach anyone. It's a disgrace how they treat low-income families. My caseworker has given me incorrect information at least 5 times in the past year. Always document EVERYTHING.

While I understand your frustration, I do want to clarify that most counties do send notices about program changes. However, these notices can sometimes be confusing or get lost in the mail. The best practice is to create an account on BenefitsCal.com where you can access electronic copies of all notices and program changes. You can also opt for paperless notifications so everything goes directly to your account and email.

To answer the question about Claimyr - yes, it worked for me. You do have to pay for it, but it was worth it when I was desperate to reach someone. After weeks of getting nowhere, I finally got through and resolved my issue in one day.

one tng to check is ur EBT transaction history on the app or website. sometimes bnfits get loaded but dont show as available right away. happened 2 me last yr, said $0 balance but when i checked transactions it showed deposit pending! worth checking b4 spending hrs trying 2 call

Thanks for the suggestion! I checked and sadly there's nothing pending. I'm going to try calling one more time tomorrow morning right when they open, and if that doesn't work, I might try that Claimyr service someone mentioned.

wait, did you submit your SAR7 on time last month? if you miss that deadline they sometimes stop benefits until you submit it

Yes, I did my SAR7 on time! That's why I'm so confused. My regular benefits came through fine, it was just the extra amount my worker mentioned that's missing.

Based on your follow-up comments, I suspect your caseworker was referring to a benefit increase due to your reported income decrease. When your income goes down, your CalFresh benefits typically increase. However, the increase wouldn't come as a separate payment - it would just be a higher amount on your regular deposit date. Check your benefit amount this month - is it higher than previous months? If not, then definitely contact your county worker to ask about the status of your income change report. Sometimes these adjustments can take a cycle to process.

You're absolutely right! I just checked my last few months of benefits and this month was $168 higher than usual. That must be what my worker meant by "extra" benefits. I feel silly now, but thank you everyone for helping me figure this out!
