CalFresh extra food benefits missing for June 2025 - did anyone else not get theirs?
So I usually get that extra CalFresh amount deposited on the 10th of each month but nothing showed up today on my EBT card. Checked my balance twice and it's still just the regular amount from my normal deposit date. Did they stop giving the extra food supplement benefit? I wasn't notified about any changes and I'm counting on that extra $175 to feed my kids for the rest of the month. Anyone else having this issue or know what's going on?

•Glad I'm not the only one! I called the EBT hotline but they just have that automated message saying to contact your county office. So frustrating.

The supplemental nutrition benefit program ended last month. There was supposed to be a notice sent out to all recipients in April explaining that May would be the final month for the extra benefits. This was part of the state budget adjustments for the new fiscal year. Unfortunately, many county offices didn't properly notify all recipients - they were supposed to send letters explaining the change and providing resources for food banks and other assistance options.

•What?! I never got ANY letter about this! How are families supposed to manage with this kind of surprise cut? My budget is already stretched to the limit with rent increases.

•I got that letter but thought it was just more junk mail and didn't open it until last week. Bad timing since my car just broke down and I was counting on that extra food money too.

I work with a nonprofit that helps people navigate benefits. The supplemental program ended May 31st, and unfortunately the notification process was poorly handled. If you're struggling, you should contact your county worker ASAP to see if you qualify for an increased regular benefit amount based on current expenses. Many people don't claim all their deductions like childcare, medical expenses, or even the full amount of their housing costs, which could increase your regular monthly benefit. The standard deduction also increased this year.

•Thank you for this advice. I do pay a lot for childcare that I never reported because I didn't know it mattered. Do I need to wait until my recertification or can I report these expenses now?

•You can report those expenses anytime! Submit verification of your childcare expenses to your county office and request a benefit recalculation. This should be done through your online account on BenefitsCal or by speaking directly with your caseworker. Many people see significant benefit increases when they properly document all eligible expenses.

•I'm sorry, but that information isn't accurate. The supplemental benefit was always intended to be temporary, and there are currently no plans to reinstate it under the new budget. It's important not to spread information that might give people false hope. The best approach is to make sure you're receiving the maximum regular benefit you're entitled to by reporting all qualifying expenses.

Has anyone had any luck getting through to an actual person at the county office? I've been calling all morning trying to understand what's happening with my benefits too (not just the supplement, my whole amount seems wrong this month). The automated system just keeps disconnecting me after 45 minutes on hold.

•Try using Claimyr! I was having the exact same problem last month when my benefits got cut without explanation. Spent days trying to reach someone with no luck. Then I used this service called Claimyr - they wait on hold with the county for you and call you back when they get a real person. Saved me hours of frustration. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8

I went through this last year when they reduced my regular benefits after I reported a tiny raise at my job. Make sure you're submitting all your utility bills too - they have a standard deduction but if your actual bills are higher you can get more benefits. Also if anyone in your household has medical expenses or is elderly/disabled there are extra deductions.

•That's good to know! My electricity bill is insane in the summer with the air conditioning. I never thought to submit that. Is there a specific form I need to fill out?

•You can report utility expenses on your SAR7 or during recertification, but you can also submit verification of these expenses anytime through BenefitsCal or directly to your county office. Make sure to keep copies of all documents you submit. For utilities, you can qualify for the standard utility allowance (SUA) which is often better than itemizing individual utilities unless your costs are exceptionally high.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO KEEP US CONFUSED AND UNDERPAID!!! They intentionally make the process complicated so fewer people get the benefits they deserve. I had to fight for months to get my correct benefit amount after they 'lost' my verification documents THREE TIMES. And now they just cancel extra benefits with barely any notice???

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone at my county office! They confirmed what several of you said - the extra supplement ended in May. The worker actually was really helpful and went through all my expenses with me. Turns out I've been undercounting my housing and childcare costs. She said my regular benefits should increase by about $80/month after she processes the updated information, which doesn't completely replace the supplement but helps a lot. Thanks everyone for your advice!

•That's great news! So glad you were able to get some of the benefit back through proper expense reporting. This is exactly why it's so important to report ALL qualifying expenses. For anyone else reading this thread, remember that even things like child support payments and certain educational expenses can count as deductions for CalFresh calculations.
