Are we still getting extra CalFresh benefits on the 14th in 2025?

Anyone know if they're still doing the extra CalFresh deposit on the 14th this month? I've been getting it consistently for a while now but heard some rumor they might be stopping it. My regular benefits hit my EBT on the 6th like normal but I'm counting on that second payment for my kids' groceries for the rest of the month. My caseworker never answers the phone and the automated line doesn't have any info about it. Thanks!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but those 'extra' CalFresh benefits ended years ago. What you're referring to was called 'Emergency Allotments' during the COVID pandemic, but those stopped back in March 2023. CalFresh has returned to normal benefit amounts - just one payment per month based on your household size, income, and expenses. If you've been receiving something on the 14th recently, it's either a mistake or something specific to your case that isn't standard across the program.

Wait WHAT??? But I literally got an extra deposit last month on the 14th! And the month before too. My neighbor gets it too and she said it's because we qualify for maximum benefits? I'm a single mom with 3 kids working part time so maybe that's why? Now I'm freaking out because I budgeted assuming that money would be there :

The regular CalFresh benefits are the only ones guaranteed each month on your assigned day. If you've been getting something on the 14th regularly, it could be a different program or supplement that your county is providing. Some counties have additional local food assistance programs. Call your county office to confirm what it is exactly because you don't want to count on something that might stop without notice. Have you checked your BenefitsCal account to see what it shows for upcoming deposits?

I tried logging into BenefitsCal but I forgot my password and now I'm locked out UGH. I swear this second payment has been happening for like 8 months at least, but I never questioned it because I just needed the food money. Now I'm worried!

It could be a transitional benefit maybe??? When i went from unemployed to employed they gave me extra money for a few months to help with the transition so i wasnt suddenly broke from working lol.... check ur mail from the past few months, they shouldve sent u notices about any special benefits ur getting

I never read most of those letters tbh, they're usually just reminding me to turn in my SAR7 or something. I'll go through my pile tonight. I really hope it's not stopping because I can barely make it through the month as it is.

It sounds like you might be receiving Transitional CalFresh Benefits. This happens when you close a CalWORKs case but remain eligible for CalFresh. The transitional benefits usually last for 5 months with a fixed benefit amount regardless of changes in your circumstances. After those 5 months, you'd need to recertify for regular CalFresh, and your benefits would be calculated based on your current situation. If you've been receiving this second payment for about 8 months as you mentioned, it's likely something else. You should check any Notice of Action letters you've received. They legally have to notify you about any benefits you're receiving and any changes to those benefits.

This is an excellent point about Transitional CalFresh Benefits. However, Transitional CalFresh would typically replace your regular benefits, not supplement them. Since the poster mentioned getting regular benefits on the 6th and then something else on the 14th, it's probably not TCF. OP - Have you had any changes in your case recently? Added or removed household members? Started or stopped receiving other benefits like CalWORKs? Sometimes retroactive benefits or adjustments come as separate payments.

my cousin said they give extra 4 large families now but only if ur income is under certain amount... do u have more than 3 kids? they might be giving u family supplement or something

There's no official 'family supplement' in the standard CalFresh program. Each household's benefits are calculated based on household size, income, and allowable deductions. The maximum monthly amount for a household of 4 in 2025 is approximately $1,019. There are no automatic supplements for larger families beyond the standard calculation method. If the OP is receiving something additional, it's either a county-specific program, a correction for a previous underpayment, or possibly a completely different benefit that happens to deposit on the 14th.

I've been trying to reach my CalFresh worker for WEEKS about a similar issue and kept getting disconnected. I finally tried using Claimyr to get through to an actual person at the county office. It's this service that calls for you and then connects you when they get a real person on the line. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 - totally worth it instead of wasting hours on hold. They told me I was getting adjusted payments because they miscalculated my benefits for a few months, but they're ending soon. Definitely check on what exactly that second payment is!

Thanks for this! I'm going to try it tomorrow because I NEED to know what's happening with that second payment. I can never get through to my worker and the automated system is useless.

I've been on CalFresh for 3 years and have never heard of regular extra payments on the 14th!!! Everyone I know only gets ONE payment per month on their assigned day. Are you SURE it's coming from CalFresh/EBT? Could it be child support or some other benefit depositing around the same time? Check your EBT transaction history - it should show exactly what each deposit is labeled as. I'm worried you're counting on something that might not continue!

Just checked my EBT app and it definitely shows as "CalFRESH BENEFITS" for both deposits, one on the 6th ($765) and one on the 14th ($450). The amounts have been the same every month. Now I'm really confused and worried!

With that specific information, I can now provide a more informed response. If you're seeing two separate CalFresh deposits of different amounts, here are the most likely explanations: 1. Supplemental benefits for a specific county program (some counties have additional food assistance) 2. Correction for previous underpayments being distributed monthly 3. Split issuance due to a case specific situation 4. You may have two separate CalFresh cases (rare but possible if household members were split and later rejoined) You absolutely need to contact your county office for clarification. If this second payment isn't permanent, you need to know before it stops. When you file your next SAR7 or recertification, this might trigger a review that could end the second payment if it's not supposed to be continuing.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I've been so stressed about this all day. I'm going to try that Claimyr service tomorrow to get through to my worker because my SAR7 is due next month and I don't want anything to mess up my benefits. I'll update here when I find out what's going on!

dont freak out too much, i bet its just back benefits they owe u for something... my friend got extra payments for like 6 months cuz they miscalculated her childcare deduction and had to pay her back slowly... just make sure when u talk to ur worker u ask how long it will last so u can budget!!
