When do the extra CalFresh benefits for May 2025 get deposited? Looking for exact date

I'm trying to budget for the month and need to know if we're still getting those extra CalFresh benefits this month? And what exact date they'll be on my EBT card? I'm talking about the regular food stamps supplemental allotment, NOT the P-EBT for kids. My regular benefits usually hit on the 11th, but the extra amount comes at different times. My caseworker mentioned something about them maybe ending soon but wasn't clear. Really need to plan my grocery shopping and would appreciate if anyone knows for sure! Thanks in advance.

There are NO extra CalFresh benefits anymore!!! Those were emergency allotments during COVID and they ENDED back in March 2023. Don't plan your budget counting on extra because you won't get any! The county workers don't explain this properly and people keep expecting extra money that isn't coming. It's been 2 years since those ended.

Wait, really?? But I got extra last month - about $95 more than my regular amount. My worker definitely said something about extra benefits. Now I'm confused...

The COVID emergency allotments did end in 2023, but there might be confusion because California implemented a CalFresh benefit increase in October 2024 that raised the maximum benefit amounts by about 6%. Also, if you've had changes in your household income or expenses, your benefit amount could change. The standard issuance schedule is based on the last digit of your case number (1st through 10th of each month). If you got extra money last month, it could be: 1. A retroactive payment for benefits you were owed 2. An adjustment after reporting decreased income 3. Additional benefits after adding household members You should call your county office to confirm exactly what you're receiving and why.

i got some random extra money on my ebt last month too! called the county line like 5 times and kept getting disconnected. finally got thru and turns out they had calculated my benefits wrong for months and were paying me back. maybe check ur mail for any notices about adjustments?

I never read all those letters they send tbh... I'll dig through my pile and see if there's something about it. The county office is impossible to reach by phone though.

If you need to reach your CalFresh worker about this, I'd highly recommend using Claimyr. I was in the same situation - kept getting disconnected or waiting forever on hold. The Claimyr service will wait on hold with the county office for you and call you back when a real person answers. Saved me literally hours of frustration. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 Once I got through, I found out my "extra" payment was actually a correction for a verification they processed late. It's always case-specific, so you really need to talk to your actual worker.

Thank you! I'll check that out. Anything to avoid sitting on hold for 2 hours just to get disconnected. I'm starting to think my extra payment might be something similar - maybe a correction or adjustment.

There ARE some counties doing pilot programs with supplemental benefits for certain households in 2025, but it's very limited and only in specific zip codes. It's part of some new food security initiative. What county are you in? I work with a CBO that helps with benefit access and might be able to tell you if your area is participating.

This is NOT correct information. There are no "pilot programs" giving extra CalFresh in 2025. Please don't spread misinformation! The only supplements would be corrections to underpayments or regular adjustments based on household changes.

I had the same question last month! Called my county worker and found out that my "extra" amount was just them finally processing my childcare expense deduction that I submitted 3 months ago 🙄 They backdated it to when I first reported it. Check if you recently reported any changes to your household, income, or expenses like rent increase, utilities, or childcare. Those can all change your benefit amount and sometimes they process them late and it looks like "extra" money.

Oh! I did report a rent increase about 2 months ago. I bet that's what happened. They probably just now processed it and gave me back pay. That makes so much sense. I'm going to check my last few notices to confirm. Thanks for helping me figure this out!

Just to clarify for everyone - there are three things that might look like "extra benefits" on your EBT card in 2025: 1. Regular benefit adjustments due to reported changes (income decrease, expense increase, adding household members) 2. Retroactive payments/corrections for processing delays or errors 3. The regular annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) that usually happens in October If you're unsure about why your benefit amount changed, you should have received a Notice of Action explaining the change. If you didn't receive or can't find this notice, you can request a copy from your county office or check your BenefitsCal account online.

u can check beneftiscal for notices?? i never knew that! just login to regular account?

Yes, you can view your notices in your BenefitsCal account. Just log in, go to "My Benefits" and there should be a section for "Notices" or "Documents." Not all counties have fully digitized all notices, but most recent ones should be there. It's a good way to keep track of changes to your benefits without having to save all the paper notices.

Thank you so much everyone! I checked BenefitsCal and found the notice - it WAS a retroactive adjustment for my rent increase! Mystery solved. I appreciate all the help and information.

Glad you got it figured out! This is exactly why it's so important to keep track of any changes you report to your county office. The processing delays can be really frustrating - sometimes it takes months for them to update your benefits even for something as straightforward as a rent increase. For future reference, if you report changes and don't see them reflected in your benefits within 30 days, it's worth following up. The retroactive payments are nice when they finally come through, but it would be so much better if they just processed things on time in the first place!

Totally agree! The processing delays are really frustrating when you're trying to budget. I had a similar experience when I first started getting CalFresh - reported a job loss and it took almost 6 weeks for them to adjust my benefits. The retroactive payment helped, but those weeks of lower benefits were really tough. It's good to know about following up after 30 days - I wish someone had told me that earlier!

This whole thread is so helpful! I'm new to CalFresh and honestly had no idea about all these different reasons why benefit amounts can change. I was getting stressed thinking I might be getting "extra" money by mistake and would have to pay it back later. It's reassuring to know that retroactive adjustments for things like rent increases are totally normal. I'm definitely going to set up my BenefitsCal online account so I can track my notices better. Thanks everyone for explaining how this all works!
