Are CalFresh emergency allotments being issued on May 5th or 12th, 2025?
Has anybody heard if the extra CalFresh benefits are coming this month on the 5th or the 12th? My caseworker mentioned something about emergency allotments still continuing in 2025 but wasn't clear about the date. I usually get my regular benefits on the 10th, but the extra amount comes earlier or later. I'm trying to budget for groceries this month and need to know when to expect the additional funds on my EBT card. Anyone get their May supplement already? Trying to figure out if I should wait until the 12th to do my big grocery shop.

There are no more emergency allotments for CalFresh in 2025. Those were pandemic-related benefits that ended back in March 2023. What your caseworker might have been referring to is the regular semi-annual COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) that typically happens in October, or possibly a supplement related to specific disasters in certain counties. Regular benefits are issued based on the last digit of your case number, not on a set day like the 10th for everyone. What county are you in? That might help clarify what specific program your worker was referring to.

•Wait really?? I'm in Alameda County. My worker definitely said something about extra benefits this month. Maybe I misunderstood? She mentioned something about retroactive adjustments being processed. I'm confused now.

my cousin got extra cal fresh last week but it wasnt the emergency thing, it was bcuz they had calculated her income wrong for 3 months and they owed her backpay. maybe thats what ur worker was talking about?? retroactive benefits for an error they made??

•That could be it! My income changed back in February when I lost some hours at work, and I reported it on my SAR7 in March. Maybe they're adjusting based on that? But wouldn't they have told me the exact amount?

The previous responses are correct - the pandemic emergency allotments ended permanently in 2023. However, there are several other types of supplemental payments that could be happening: 1. Retroactive benefits if your case was calculated incorrectly 2. Benefits adjustments from a successfully appealed decision 3. Restored benefits if you experienced a gap in coverage 4. County-specific disaster supplements (though none are currently active in Alameda) 5. Corrections from a reported income change on your SAR7 I recommend calling your county office directly to ask about the specific supplement your worker mentioned. Be prepared with your case number and ask them to explain exactly what payment you should expect and when.

•This is EXACTLY why the system is so frustrating!!! Workers tell us one thing but don't explain properly then we have to chase them down for answers!! I had something similar happen and spent THREE DAYS trying to get through to someone who could actually give me a straight answer. What a joke. 🤬

I've been trying to call my county office for clarification on something similar (retroactive benefits adjustment) and kept hitting the automated system loops. After getting disconnected four times, I tried using Claimyr.com and it got me through to an actual worker in about 15 minutes. They have a system that navigates the phone tree and waits on hold for you, then calls you when a worker picks up. Saved me hours of frustration. There's a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. Definitely worth it when you need to actually speak to someone about specific benefit questions like this.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'll check that out if I can't get through tomorrow. I've been hung up on twice already this week trying to reach someone. Did they help you figure out your retroactive benefits?

i think u might be confusd with calworks which did have some kind of adjustment this month for some people. calfresh is food stamps, calworks is cash aid. easy to mix them up. did ur worker mention anything about calworks?

•Hmm, I'm only on CalFresh, not CalWORKs. But maybe you're right and I misunderstood what program she was talking about. This is all so confusing sometimes.

One more possibility: There was a software update to the benefits calculation system in April 2025 that affected some cases in Northern California counties including Alameda. Some households are receiving adjustments this month as a result. This could be what your worker was referring to. These are being issued between the 5th and 15th of May depending on your case number. The county should have sent you a Notice of Action explaining the adjustment and the specific date it would be deposited to your EBT card.

•I think this is it! I did get a notice in the mail last week but honestly only skimmed it because it looked like the standard paperwork they always send. I'll find it and read it properly. Thank you so much for this information!

Always keep ALL your notices!!! I learned this the hard way. And write the date on them when you get them because sometimes they don't print the date clearly. I organize mine by month in a folder now because you never know when you'll need to reference something. Also take pictures of important notices with your phone as backup.

UPDATE: Found the notice! You all were right - it's about a system correction. They're giving me an extra $175 on May 12th because they miscalculated my utility allowance from February-April. Not quite the emergency allotment I thought, but still helpful! Thanks everyone for helping me figure this out.

•That's great news! The Standard Utility Allowance (SUA) is often overlooked but can make a significant difference in your benefit calculation. Since February 2025, the SUA in California increased from $487 to $519, which can increase monthly benefits by $9-30 depending on household size and income. Sounds like they're giving you the retroactive adjustment for those three months. Make sure your future calculations include the correct SUA amount.
