When will CalFresh extra $95 emergency allotment be deposited this month?

Hey CalFresh community, I'm confused about the emergency allotments this month. Are we still getting the extra $95 supplement, and if so, does anyone know what day it hits our EBT cards? I tried calling the county office but got stuck in an endless automated loop (of course). I've heard different dates from different people - some saying the 10th and others saying it depends on your case number? Even better if someone knows a website where I can check the deposit schedule every month instead of stressing about it. My rent just went up and I really need to budget carefully. Thanks in advance!

The emergency allotments ended completely in March 2023 when the federal public health emergency expired. CalFresh benefits went back to regular amounts after that. There are NO more extra payments like the $95 minimum EA that used to happen during COVID. Anyone who told you you're getting extra money this month is giving you wrong info unfortunately.

Wait seriously?? But my neighbor said she just got extra money last month! I was counting on that $95 for groceries this week. So we're just back to the regular amounts now? That's going to make things so much harder...

I worked for CalFresh during the pandemic and can confirm the emergency allotments ended in early 2023. What you're now receiving is your regular calculated benefit based on your household size, income, expenses, etc. If you're struggling, you might want to submit a SAR7 or mid-period report if you've had any changes that could increase your benefit amount (decreased income, increased housing costs, new household members). The BenefitsCal website (benefitscal.com) lets you check your current benefit amount and deposit date which is typically the same day each month based on your case number.

Thank you for this info! I didn't realize they had completely ended. I'll check BenefitsCal to see my regular deposit date. Do you know if reporting my rent increase on a mid-period report would help? It just went up by $200/month.

Same here, the 11th for me too! And yeah, my kids really miss that extra money.

NOBODY TELLS US ANYTHING!!! I was in the same boat last year thinking I was still gonna get the emergency money. The county workers don't bother to make sure we understand whats happening. Just cut the benefits and leave families strugglng! My kids had to adjust to eating less because of this! But oh they sent a letter?? Like we all perfectly understand government jargon!!

This happened to my sister too. She had budgeted for that extra amount and then suddenly it was gone. The worst part is trying to explain to kids why there's less food. I feel your frustration.

If you're having trouble making ends meet with your current benefit amount, definitely report that rent increase ASAP. A $200 increase in housing costs could potentially increase your CalFresh benefits because it changes your shelter deduction. You can do this through a mid-period report. For checking your benefit amount and deposit date, sign into your BenefitsCal account (used to be called C4Yourself in some counties). If you're having trouble reaching a real person at the county office to discuss your options, I've had great success using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that gets you through to a real person quickly instead of waiting on hold forever. They have a demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8

Thank you! I'll try submitting a mid-period report about my rent increase. I hadn't heard of Claimyr before but I might use that to follow up with the county - it's literally impossible to reach anyone lately.

Yes, you can report changes that increase your benefits at any time! It's called a voluntary mid-period report. You only HAVE to report changes that put you over the Income Reporting Threshold (IRT) listed on your last approval notice. But increases in expenses like rent or decreases in income can be reported anytime to potentially increase your benefits.

To add to what others have said, your regular CalFresh benefits should be deposited on the same day each month based on the last digit of your case number. So if your case ends in 5, it's the 5th of the month, case ends in 0, it's the 10th, etc. The EBT customer service line (877-328-9677) can tell you your next deposit date if you can't access BenefitsCal.

That's super helpful, thank you! My case number ends in 7 so I guess I should expect deposits on the 7th of each month? I'll call that EBT number to confirm.

Just to clarify something important - your regular CalFresh benefits DO increase each year with the cost of living adjustment (COLA). This usually happens in October. Last October (2024), benefits increased by about 3%. While this doesn't fully cover inflation for many families, there is an automatic annual adjustment. And yes, definitely report your rent increase - shelter costs are a major factor in benefit calculation.

I had no idea benefits increase automatically each year, even a little bit helps. I'm going to report my rent increase tomorrow and see if that helps my situation. Thanks for all the information, everyone!
