When is CalFresh sending the September emergency allotment? Some got it early but I'm still waiting
Has anyone heard when they're sending out the emergency allotment for September 2025? I usually get my regular CalFresh on the 10th, but I'm confused about the extra emergency benefits this month. The BenefitsCal app doesn't show any updates about September payments, but I've seen posts on Facebook where some people already got their emergency allotment deposited yesterday and today! My rent just went up $175 and I'm counting on that extra amount. Is there a schedule or is it random when they load it? My case is through Los Angeles County if that matters.

•Last month I got it on the 21st, but the month before it came on the 17th. It's always different which is why I'm stressing. I wish they had a set schedule like the regular benefits!

There's actually a big misconception here. The emergency allotments for CalFresh were discontinued after the public health emergency ended in early 2023. What you're seeing people post about is probably their regular benefits or possibly the quarterly inflation adjustment that was scheduled for this month. If your friends are getting something labeled as "emergency allotment" in 2025, they might be getting a different program benefit or there's been a new emergency declaration I haven't heard about yet.

•What??? Are you sure??? I swear I got an emergency deposit last month that was separate from my regular benefits! It had a different transaction name on my EBT account history and everything.

The previous commenter is correct - the emergency allotments ended when the federal COVID public health emergency was terminated. What you're likely seeing is one of these things: 1. Regular CalFresh benefits (issued on your normal day based on the last digit of your case number) 2. The Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) that just took effect this month 3. Supplemental benefits for specific situations (like disaster relief in areas affected by the recent wildfires) Los Angeles County specifically is rolling out supplemental benefits for households affected by the rising housing costs in certain zip codes. This is part of a new pilot program they announced in June. The payments are being issued throughout the month, not on a specific day. If you want to check on your specific case, I recommend calling the LA County DPSS office directly, though I know the wait times can be frustrating.

•THANK YOU! I think that's exactly what it is - I'm in one of the zip codes with the housing supplement pilot! That makes so much sense now. I did get a notice about it but thought it was just the regular COLA increase. I'll try calling DPSS to confirm, though last time I was on hold for over 2 hours before getting disconnected. 😫

If ur in LA County dealing with DPSS is THE WORST!!! i spent 3 days trying to get through and kept getting disconnected. FINALLY i found this service called Claimyr that got me through to a real person in like 20 minutes! they called DPSS for me and then connected me when they got someone. saved me hours of frustration. check out their video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 or go to claimyr.com

•Omg thank you! Going to try this right now. I can't afford to sit on hold all day with this new rent increase.

•Does this actually work? I'm always suspicious of third-party services for benefit stuff. Has anyone else tried it?

I just called using that Claimyr service the other person mentioned and it actually worked! I got through to someone at DPSS in about 25 minutes instead of the usual 2+ hours. The LA County worker confirmed what others have said - there are NO emergency allotments anymore, but there IS a housing supplement pilot program for certain zip codes with high rent increases. They told me the housing supplements are being distributed throughout the month based on case number batches. My batch is scheduled for next week (cases ending in 4-6). If your case number ends in 7-9, you'll be in the last batch going out on the 23rd. Hope this helps everyone waiting! 👍

•Wait so your saying I'm gonna get extra money cuz my rent is high?? Mine went up $250 this year! How do I know if I'm in one of those zip codes? My case is in San Diego County though not LA

•This is just an LA County pilot program right now. Each county has different supplemental programs. You should check with San Diego County to see if they have something similar. But no, these aren't the old COVID emergency allotments - those are definitely gone.

I hate how confusing all this is!!!! Why can't they just explain things clearly?? One month you get one amount, next month something different, and the app NEVER has current info!!! So frustrating!

•Agreed. The communication from county offices is often unclear. If you want a definitive answer about your benefits, always check your EBT account transaction history or call your county office directly. The app updates can lag behind by several days.

UPDATE: I called using that Claimyr service and got through to LA County DPSS in 30 mins! The worker confirmed I AM getting the housing supplement since my zip code is in the pilot program. Mine is scheduled to deposit on the 23rd based on my case number. Mystery solved! Thanks everyone for your help - would have been stressing all month without you!

•Glad you got it sorted out! That housing supplement program is really helping families deal with the crazy rent increases in LA County. Make sure to complete your SAR7 on time so you don't lose eligibility for the supplement.
