Extra CalFresh benefits this month (July 2025)? Did anyone receive supplemental payments?
Can someone please tell me if CalFresh is giving extra benefits this month? I checked my EBT card yesterday and the amount seemed normal, but my neighbor swore we're getting a supplemental payment because of the rising food costs. She said something about July 2025 having additional stamps for everyone. I called the county number but got stuck in the automated system for 40 mins before giving up. My caseworker never responds to messages either. Did anyone else hear about this or get extra money on their card? I'm a single mom with 2 kids and every extra dollar helps with these crazy grocery prices now.

•I hope so! My neighbor seemed really certain about it. Said her cousin who works for some non-profit told her. Groceries are killing me lately.

This is a common misunderstanding happening right now. There are NO emergency allotments or extra CalFresh benefits for July 2025. Those supplemental payments ended after the COVID public health emergency expired. What might be happening is confusion about the annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) that just went into effect last month, which increased regular benefit amounts by about 3.5%. Your neighbor might have noticed this small increase and thought it was a special extra payment. If you're struggling with food costs, please look into the Summer EBT program for your children, which provides $45 per eligible child per month during summer vacation when school meals aren't available. You can also check with your local food bank for additional resources.

•Thank you for explaining that! I bet that's exactly what happened - she probably noticed her regular amount went up a little and thought it was a special payment. I'll definitely look into that Summer EBT thing for my kids though, hadn't heard of that before.

THIS IS WHY THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! They stopped all the emergency allotments but food prices are HIGHER THAN EVER!!! My family of 4 gets $680/month now which doesn't even last 3 weeks with these prices!!! And then when you try to call for help you can't even get through to a human being. I spent TWO DAYS trying to reach someone last month about my SAR7 form and kept getting disconnected. The county office is a joke!!!

•I know it's frustrating trying to reach someone at CalFresh! I was in the same boat - trying for days to talk to someone about my recertification. I finally used this service called Claimyr that got me through to a live person in about 10 minutes. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 - basically they wait on hold for you and call you when they get a real person. Their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out. Saved me hours of frustration and I got my issue resolved.

•Each state administers SNAP (called CalFresh in California) differently, but the emergency allotments ended nationwide. Your cousin in Nevada might be referring to their COLA adjustment or a state-specific supplement program, but it's not the same as the pandemic emergency allotments. California actually has one of the more generous standard benefit calculations compared to many states.

i just checked my balance and didn't get anything extra either. i think maybe your neighbor is confused about the summer p-ebt program? that's for kids who get free school lunch, they get extra money during summer vacation months. if your kids are school age and get free lunch you should check if you qualify!

•Ohhh that makes sense! My kids do get free lunch at school. Maybe that's what she was talking about. I'm going to check on that right away. Thanks for the tip!

There's a lot of confusion around benefits right now. To clarify: 1. Regular CalFresh/SNAP benefits DID increase slightly (3.5%) with the annual COLA adjustment in June 2025. 2. Summer EBT (sometimes called Summer P-EBT) provides additional funds for eligible school-age children during summer months. This is $45 per eligible child per month for June, July, and August 2025. 3. The emergency allotments that provided maximum benefits to all households regardless of income during the pandemic emergency have permanently ended. 4. Some counties may have local supplemental programs through food banks and community organizations, but these are not part of the standard CalFresh program. If you're having trouble making your benefits last, request an income reassessment if your situation has changed, and make sure all deductible expenses (housing costs, childcare, medical expenses for seniors/disabled) are properly documented in your case file as these can increase your benefit amount.

•So basically we're getting NOTHING extra despite inflation being out of control. Typical government BS. They can find money for everything else but not for feeding families!

•I understand your frustration. While the emergency allotments have ended, there are other programs that might help. The California Food Assistance Program (CFAP) provides state-funded benefits to some immigrants who don't qualify for federal SNAP, the WIC program helps pregnant women and children under 5, and many school districts continue summer meal programs. CalFresh benefits are adjusted annually for inflation, though I agree the adjustments don't always keep pace with rapid price increases.

My worker told me last month that they might do a one-time adjustment because of the heat wave making electric bills higher for everyone. Maybe thats what your neighbor heard about??

•That's a different program entirely. You might be referring to LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program), which is separate from CalFresh. There was discussion about providing additional utility assistance due to extreme heat, but this would come as utility bill assistance, not additional CalFresh benefits.

Thanks everyone for clearing this up! Sounds like there's no extra CalFresh this month specifically, but I'm definitely going to look into the Summer EBT program for my kids. I appreciate all the information - it's so hard to get straight answers sometimes!

Just wanted to add that you can check your Summer EBT eligibility online at ca.gov/summerf00d or call 1-877-328-9677. If your kids qualified for free or reduced-price school meals during the 2024-25 school year, they should automatically get the Summer EBT benefits loaded onto a separate card (not your regular EBT card). The benefits are loaded all at once in June for the whole summer - $135 total per eligible child ($45 x 3 months). Also, if you haven't received your card by now and think you should qualify, definitely call that number because sometimes there are processing delays!

I'm new to CalFresh and this community has been so helpful! I was also confused about the benefits this month. My case worker mentioned that the annual COLA increase might make it seem like there's "extra" money, but it's just the regular adjustment. For anyone still struggling with food costs, I found that shopping at discount grocery stores like Aldi and using the CalFresh restaurant locator for hot meals has really helped stretch my benefits. Also, don't forget about local food pantries - many don't require any paperwork and can supplement your monthly groceries. The combination of CalFresh + food banks + Summer EBT for kids (if eligible) can really make a difference during these expensive times!

•Welcome to the community! Thanks for sharing those helpful tips about discount stores and food pantries. I'm still figuring out all the resources available too. Do you happen to know if there's a list somewhere of which restaurants accept CalFresh? I've heard some places do but I'm not sure how to find them in my area.
