Did anyone receive their CalFresh extra supplement for October yet?
I got my regular CalFresh benefits loaded on my EBT card yesterday (Oct 13th) but I thought we were supposed to get some kind of extra supplement for October? My caseworker mentioned something about this last month during my recertification interview. I'm a single mom with 2 kids and the extra would really help with groceries right now. Anyone know if it's coming separately or was that just a rumor? Checked my BenefitsCal account and there's nothing there about any extras.

•Did you get it separately from your regular benefits or all together? I'm trying to figure out if I should keep waiting or if something's wrong with my case.

What's being issued is the annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for CalFresh, which started October 1st, 2025. This isn't a separate payment - it's an increase to your regular monthly benefit amount. You should have received a Notice of Action in September explaining the new benefit amount. Log into your BenefitsCal account and check your 'Documents' section to see if the notice is there. The increase is about 5.6% on average, so it might not be immediately obvious if you weren't looking for it. If your previous benefit was $850, for example, the new amount might be around $897.

•Ohhhh that makes sense! I think I did get a notice but honestly I just saw the approval for recertification and didn't read the whole thing. Let me check my benefit amount - I usually get $745 so I should see a bit more this month. Thank you!!!

They do this every October. It's not really an "extra" payment, just an adjustment to keep up with inflation. My benefits went from $322 to $342 this month. Check your last deposit against what you normally get - the difference should be there already.

•yep this is right. happens every year. not a big increase but better than nothing i guess. i wish they would give us an actual supplement like during covid times

I'm confused about this too! I thought we were getting a special payment this month because of the wildfires in Northern California? Or is that something different? My cousin said her worker told her there was emergency allotments coming but I haven't seen anything extra either. I've been waiting for 2 weeks now! 😩

•You might be confusing a few different things. The regular October increase is the annual COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) that happens every year for all CalFresh recipients. The wildfire disaster assistance is completely different and only available in counties with a disaster declaration - those are one-time Disaster CalFresh (D-CalFresh) benefits for people impacted by the fires. Regular CalFresh recipients in declared disaster counties might get automatic supplements, but that's separate from the October COLA increase everyone gets.

I had this EXACT same issue last year! My caseworker mentioned "extra October benefits" but was actually just referring to the annual increase. I spent hours trying to reach someone at the county office to ask about my "missing" extra payment before finally getting through and having them explain it was just the regular annual adjustment. If you're struggling to reach your caseworker, I discovered this service called Claimyr that gets you through to a real person at the CalFresh office without waiting on hold. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 - saved me SO much time. Their website is claimyr.com. Basically they wait on hold for you and call you back when a real person picks up.

•It worked for me! I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying for 3 days to get through. They called me back in about 40 minutes when someone at the county office picked up.

The October 1st adjustment is actually quite important even though it might seem small. For 2025, the maximum CalFresh benefit for a household of 3 increased from $781 to $824 per month. The increase happens automatically, so you don't need to do anything. Since you mentioned you get $745 normally, check if your new amount is around $786 (5.5% increase). The confusion happens every year because caseworkers sometimes mention the "October adjustment" during September recertifications without clearly explaining it's simply an inflation adjustment to your regular benefits, not a separate payment.

•I just checked my EBT account and you're right! My benefit is now $787 instead of $745. That's about $42 more which is helpful but definitely not what I was expecting when she said "extra October amount" - I was thinking it would be some kind of one-time supplement. Thank you for explaining it so clearly!

This reminds me of when my grandfather used to talk about cost of living adjustments for his pension. He'd always say "they give with one hand and take with the other" because prices always seemed to go up more than the adjustments. Same thing with CalFresh - we get a 5% increase but have you seen grocery prices lately? Everything at the store is up like 15% from last year! My ground beef went from $4.99/lb to $7.29!! How is an extra $20-30 in benefits supposed to cover that?

•So true! The eggs I buy were $3.99 last year and now they're $6.49. The COLA doesn't even come close to covering how much more expensive everything is getting. My kids are eating me out of house and home 😭

Just to clarify for everyone in this thread - there are three different things being confused here: 1. Annual COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment): This happens every October 1st for all CalFresh recipients. It's an increase to your regular monthly benefits (about 5.6% for 2025). 2. Emergency Allotments: These were extra payments during COVID that gave households the maximum benefit for their household size. These ended completely in March 2023 and are NOT coming back. 3. Disaster CalFresh (D-CalFresh): These are special benefits for people in federally declared disaster areas (like the recent northern California wildfires). These are NOT available statewide - only in specific counties with disaster declarations. So for most people, the only "extra" in October is the annual COLA increase to your regular benefits.

•Thank you for breaking this down so clearly! I definitely was confused and thought the "extra" my caseworker mentioned was something special, not just the regular annual adjustment. Mystery solved!
