Missing supplemental CalFresh payment in 2025 - usually arrives on the 16th but didn't this month

I've been receiving extra CalFresh benefits consistently for the past 8 months. They always load around the 16th or that Sunday of the month, but this April nothing showed up on my EBT card! I checked my balance online and called the automated system, but only my regular benefits from the 10th are there. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm really counting on that extra $230 for my grocery budget this month. Did they cancel the supplemental program without notification? I didn't receive any letters about changes to my benefits. Should I call my caseworker or wait a few more days?

The supplemental benefits (what many people call 'extra food stamps') aren't guaranteed every month - they're based on available funding and your household situation. If your income increased or your household size decreased since your last SAR7 or recertification, they might have adjusted your benefits. You should definitely call your county worker to find out what happened. They won't just randomly stop them without some reason.

Thanks for responding! My income hasn't changed at all, and I just submitted my SAR7 last month with the same info as before. I'm really worried because I budget around getting those extra funds. Will try calling tomorrow.

Same here! Nothing showed up for me either. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Must be a system-wide issue or policy change.

Did you check if you hit your Income Reporting Threshold (IRT)? If your income went above that limit, even temporarily, you could lose the supplement. Also, have you received any mail from them recently? Sometimes they send important notices that look like junk mail and people throw them away. I've been on CalFresh for 4 years and there's ALWAYS a notice before they change anything.

No change in income at all - I get the same disability payment every month. And I'm pretty careful about opening all mail from the county. Nothing came explaining any changes. I'm really starting to worry now hearing that others are experiencing this too.

I KNEW IT! The government is slowly cutting back benefits without telling anyone!! They did this to me 3 times last year - each time they claimed it was a "system error" or "processing delay" but the money never came. Then when I called they said I wasn't eligible anymore even though NOTHING CHANGED with my situation. The whole system is designed to confuse people so they can save money by not giving us our full benefits!!

That's not accurate information. The emergency allotments (extra benefits) that were provided during COVID ended, but the regular supplemental nutrition program follows strict federal and state guidelines. If multiple people aren't receiving expected supplements this month, it's more likely a processing delay or a system issue that will be resolved. Always call your worker to get the correct information rather than assuming benefits were intentionally cut.

Have you tried calling the CalFresh customer service line? I had this exact issue back in January and spent THREE DAYS trying to get through on the county phone line with no luck - kept getting disconnected after waiting for hours. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to a real person in about 15 minutes who explained there was a processing delay affecting multiple recipients. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 - saved me so much frustration!

I haven't heard of Claimyr before. Does it really work? I've definitely experienced the frustration of calling the county office and getting disconnected. I'll check out that video. Thanks for the suggestion!

There's actually a specific reason this might be happening this month. CalFresh is implementing some system updates in April 2025 that were announced in the quarterly newsletter (though not everyone receives it). The supplemental payments for some recipients are being delayed by 5-7 business days. If you don't receive your supplement by the 23rd, then you should definitely contact your county office. Make sure you have your case number and the date of your last supplement payment when you call.

Thank you so much for this information! I never received any newsletter. At least now I know it might just be delayed rather than completely gone. I'll wait until the 23rd before panicking. Such a relief to hear there's a specific reason!

Is there a way to sign up for that newsletter? I never get any updates except when there's a problem.

Did your EBT card expire? Mine expired in February and I didn't realize it until my benefits didn't load. They automatically mail a new one but I never received it. Had to request another one and it was such a hassle. Just another thing to check!

Just checked and my card is good until 2027, so that's not it. But thanks for the suggestion!

Just as an update for everyone following this thread - I called my county office this morning and confirmed what @profile2 mentioned. There is indeed a system update causing delays for supplemental payments this month. The representative said all delayed supplements should post by April 24th at the latest. If you don't receive yours by then, definitely call your caseworker.

Thank you so much for confirming this! I wish they would've sent notices about the delay since so many of us depend on that extra help for our food budgets. Really appreciate everyone's help here!

This is such helpful information! I was getting really stressed about my budget too. It's frustrating that they don't send out notices about these delays, especially when people are counting on that money for groceries. At least now I know to wait until the 24th before calling. Thanks @Anna Xian for taking the time to call and update everyone!
