Where to find 1099-G tax form for ESD unemployment income?
I'm trying to help a friend locate their tax form for unemployment benefits they received last year. Where exactly on the ESD website can they find the 1099-G form for reporting unemployment income on their taxes? They're stressing because tax deadline is coming up soon and they don't remember getting anything in the mail. Is it somewhere in their eServices account? Any help would be really appreciated!

ESD doesn't issue W-2 forms - they issue 1099-G forms for unemployment benefits. Your friend needs to log into their SecureAccess Washington (SAW) account, then access their eServices account. Once logged in, there should be a section called 'Look up my wage and tax information' or similar. The 1099-G should be available for download there as a PDF.

•Thank you! I'll let them know it's a 1099-G not a W-2. They were definitely confused about that part.

I had this EXACT same problem in January! The 1099-G forms are available in your eServices account under the 'UI Tax Information' section. They should be able to see options for current and previous years. If they don't see it there, ESD might have mailed it instead. They can also call the tax form hotline at 800-XXX-XXXX to request a copy be sent again.

Jst adding that they AUTO-mail these out usually by end of January but you can defintely get it online faster. I never trust mail these days anyway lol. Check spam folder 2 for any emails about it being ready.

•Good point about checking spam. I'll let them know to look there too in case they got an email notification.

To be more specific about the navigation: After logging into eServices via SecureAccess Washington, click on the 'UI Tax Information' tab on the left menu. Then select '1099-G Tax Forms' from the dropdown options. You'll see a list of available tax years. Click on the year you need and select 'View Form' to download the PDF. If your friend doesn't see the form online or can't access their account, they should contact ESD directly. The regular phone lines are often busy, but I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an ESD agent quickly. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. It was super helpful when I needed to resolve a missing tax form issue.

•I tried calling ESD directly last month about my missing 1099-G and spent HOURS on hold before getting disconnected. Extremely frustrating! Did this Claimyr thing actually work? I'm still trying to get my form and tax filing deadline is getting closer...

Yes, it worked for me. Instead of waiting on hold for hours, I got a callback from ESD within about 20 minutes. The agent was able to verify my information and send me a new 1099-G form. Much better than my previous attempts of calling directly.

•Thanks, I'll check it out. At this point I'll try anything to get this resolved!

FWIW, sometimes the 1099-G forms don't show up in your account if you haven't accessed it in a while or if your claim is from a previous year. The system is TERRIBLE. I had to call three times last year because my 2023 form for 2022 benefits never appeared online even though I followed all the right steps. So annoying!!! 😡

•That's frustrating! My friend did receive benefits last year, so hopefully their form is in the system. I'll warn them they might need to call if it's not showing up online.

for non-tech savvy people - they can also request it by phone. my dad had to do this. just need ssn and some personal info to verify identity

•That's helpful! My friend isn't very tech-savvy either, so calling might be easier for them.

One more thing to add - if your friend received unemployment in 2024, they'll need the 1099-G for filing their 2024 taxes (which would be due April 2025). The 1099-G forms for 2024 should be available by January 31, 2025. If they're looking for 2023 benefits for filing their 2023 taxes, those forms should already be available in their account.

•Thanks for clarifying! They received benefits in 2024, so they're trying to find the form for this year's taxes. I'll let them know to look in their eServices account.
