Finding my 1099-G tax form for 2023 ESD unemployment benefits - where to look?

Has anyone figured out how to get their 1099-G form for taxes? I received some unemployment benefits in 2023 and need to report it on my taxes, but I'm not sure where to find the tax form or what it's even called. Is this something ESD automatically mails out, or can I download it from somewhere on their website? I've looked around my eServices account but can't find anything labeled as a tax form. Starting to worry since I want to file my taxes soon and don't want to miss including this income. Any help would be super appreciated!

The form is called a 1099-G. ESD usually mails them out by January 31st, but you can also access it online through your eServices account. Just log in, go to the menu and look for something like "1099-G tax forms" or "tax information". I just downloaded mine yesterday.

Thanks! That's super helpful. I'll check again on eServices. I must have missed that section somehow. Do you remember which menu it was under specifically?

It's called a 1099-G form. You have two options for getting it: 1. Wait for it in the mail - ESD must send it by January 31st by law 2. Get it electronically - Log into your eServices account → click on the menu (three lines) in upper left → select "1099-G Tax Forms" → select the tax year 2023 If you don't see the option in your account or if you've moved since claiming benefits, you should call ESD directly. They can help you access it or update your mailing address.

Perfect! Just found it exactly where you said. For some reason I was looking under "settings" instead of the main menu. Thank you so much!

So frustrating when these forms don't show up! I had the SAME PROBLEM last year and when I finally got someone on the phone they said my address was wrong in their system even though I had updated it TWICE on the website!!! If you're having trouble reaching ESD (which let's be honest, we all do), I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual person at ESD without waiting for hours. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once I got through, the agent helped me access my 1099-G form and also fixed my address. Saved me so much frustration!

Is that service legit? Never heard of it before. Sounds useful though, ESD is impossible to reach these days.

Yes it's legit! I was skeptical too but it actually works. They basically help you bypass the phone queue somehow. Saved me hours of frustration.

I'm in the same boat! Been trying to track down this form for weeks. Apparently they also mail them out, but I moved twice last year so who knows where mine ended up. When I try to access it online, the system keeps giving me an error message saying "no data available" even though I definitely received benefits. Has anyone else run into this problem?

If you're getting a "no data available" error, it could mean one of two things: either your benefits were actually paid in the previous tax year, or there's a technical issue with your account. I'd recommend first checking if you received any payments in January-December 2023 (not when you applied, but when you actually received the money). If you're sure you received payments in 2023, you'll need to contact ESD directly to fix the technical issue.

just wondering, does anyone know if the amount on the 1099-G includes the taxes they already took out or is it the total before taxes? i had taxes withheld each week and don't want to pay twice!!

Great question. The 1099-G shows the TOTAL benefits paid to you BEFORE any tax withholding. There should be a separate box (Box 4) that shows how much federal tax was already withheld. When you file your taxes, you'll report the total amount from Box 1, and then the amount in Box 4 counts as taxes you've already paid, just like withholding from a W-2 job. You won't be taxed twice as long as you report both numbers correctly.

Back in 2020 during COVID I never got my 1099-G and filed without it. BIG MISTAKE. IRS came after me 6 months later saying I underreported income. Had to pay penalties on top of the taxes I owed. Don't mess around with this form!

Thank you all for the helpful responses! I was able to find the 1099-G form right where you all said - in the main menu of eServices under "1099-G Tax Forms." I feel silly for missing it before. For anyone else looking, you can also request a copy by phone if needed. This community is amazing!
