Second adjudication claim appeared with new case number - what does this mean for my ESD claim?
I've been stuck in adjudication hell for almost 5 weeks now, and something weird just happened. I checked my ESD account this morning and noticed I now have TWO separate claims in adjudication, with a completely new case number appearing above my original one! I'm totally confused about what this means. For context, about 12 days ago I was desperate and contacted the Governor's office to try and get my claim expedited. This new second claim is the first change I've seen since doing that. Is this a good sign or should I be worried that my case just got more complicated? Has anyone else experienced suddenly getting a second claim? Does this mean they're actually working on my case or is this just going to add another month to my wait time? I'm getting really anxious because rent is due next week.

same thing hapened to me in January! the 2nd claim # is usually when they're reviewing your case specifically - it means someone is actively looking at ur stuff finally. for me it took about 9 days after the 2nd claim appeared before i got approved. hang tight!

•Oh thank god, that's actually a relief to hear! Just to make sure, did you have to do anything else after the second claim showed up? Or just wait for them to process it?

The second claim number typically indicates that your adjudication has been assigned to a specific adjudicator and they're doing a formal review of your case. This usually happens when: 1. Your claim requires additional verification 2. There's a specific issue they're investigating 3. Someone (like the Governor's office) flagged your claim for expedited review This is generally a positive sign that your claim is moving forward in the process. The new case number is a tracking mechanism in their system, not a completely separate unemployment claim.

•This is exactly right. I work with people navigating ESD issues all the time. The second claim number is their internal case management system creating a work item for the adjudicator. It usually means your claim has moved from the general queue into active review. Continue filing your weekly claims as normal while this happens.

DONT GET TOO EXCITED!!! I had two claim numbers for over 8 WEEKS and still got denied!! The 2nd number just means they moved your file from one stack to another. They are sooooo backed up right now its ridiculous. And they NEVER answer the phone when you call!!!! I tried 47 times in one day!!

•Ugh, that's so discouraging. Did you ever get through to anyone? I've been trying to call for weeks with no luck. Just endless busy signals or disconnects.

•NOPE!!! complete waste of time trying to call them directly. i ended up having to file an appeal which STILL hasn't been scheduled. the whole system is a disaster!!

I had a similar experience last month after contacting my state representative. The second claim number appeared about 10 days later, and my benefits were approved within 2 weeks after that. The governor's office expedite request definitely helps move things along, but doesn't guarantee immediate results. One thing that really helped me was using Claimyr to actually get through to an ESD agent (claimyr.com). They have a system that holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is available. I was skeptical but their video demo convinced me: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent I spoke with confirmed that the second claim number meant my case had been assigned and gave me an estimated timeline. Really helped my anxiety while waiting.

I think different departments handle differnt parts of your claim. My brother had this happen and it was because they were checking his identity documents separately from his job separation issue. Each department had their own case # for tracking. He got approved a week after the 2nd one showed up.

•That's interesting - I did upload some additional ID verification documents right before contacting the Governor's office. Maybe that's what triggered it. Did your brother have to contact them again, or did it just resolve on its own?

•It just resolved on its own. He kept filing his weekly claims as normal and then one day he checked and everything was approved and the money showed up the next day. Don't forget to keep doing your job search activities, they'll disqualify you if you miss those even while in adjudication.

Make sure you're still doing your 3 job search activities each week while waiting!!! I learned this the hard way - got stuck in adjudication, then finally approved, but lost 3 weeks of payments because I didn't do the proper job search activities during the wait. They don't waive those requirements just because you're in adjudication!

•Yes, I've been keeping up with all my job search requirements and logging them every week. I'd hate to finally get approved and then lose weeks of payments over that technicality. Thanks for the reminder though!

the governor's office expedite actually worked for me too. i was stuck for 7 weeks, called them, then got the 2nd claim # about 10 days later. paid within 2 weeks after that. hang in there!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! That timeline is actually pretty similar to mine so far, which gives me hope. I'll update here if anything changes or when I finally get a decision.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Been waiting 6 weeks in adjudication and just noticed a second claim number appeared 3 days ago. Reading through all these responses is really helpful - sounds like it's actually a good sign that someone is finally looking at my case. Has anyone here tried contacting their state legislators in addition to the Governor's office? I'm wondering if multiple contacts might help speed things up even more, or if that could actually backfire and slow things down. Really desperate to get this resolved before I fall behind on bills. Also @Isaiah Cross - definitely going to check out that Claimyr service you mentioned. At this point I'm willing to try anything to actually talk to a human being at ESD!

•Welcome to the adjudication waiting club! 😅 I contacted both my state rep AND the Governor's office about 2 weeks apart when I was stuck for over a month last year. The state rep's office was actually more responsive - they have a dedicated person who handles ESD issues and they'll do a case inquiry for you. I'd say try both, but space them out by a week or two so it doesn't look like you're spamming the system. And yes, definitely try Claimyr! I was skeptical too but it actually worked - got through to an agent after waiting 2 hours (which is way better than the days I spent hitting redial). The agent was able to tell me exactly what was holding up my claim and gave me a realistic timeline. Worth the small fee just for the peace of mind honestly.

I'm so glad I found this thread! I've been in adjudication for 4 weeks now and was starting to panic that something was wrong with my claim. Just checked my account this morning and I also have a second claim number that appeared yesterday! Reading everyone's experiences here is giving me so much hope - it sounds like this is actually progress, not a setback. I was worried they had somehow duplicated my claim or messed something up in their system. @Atticus Domingo - thanks for posting about this! I probably would have freaked out if I hadn't seen your question first. Definitely going to keep doing my weekly certifications and job search activities while I wait for this to process. Fingers crossed we both get good news soon! 🤞

•@Andre Dubois So glad this thread helped you too! It s'crazy how they don t'explain what these system changes mean - I was convinced something had gone wrong when I first saw that second claim number. But based on everyone s'experiences here, it really does seem like a positive sign that our cases are finally moving forward. Definitely keep up with those weekly certifications - that seems to be the one thing that can really trip people up even after approval. Here s'hoping we both get some good news in the next week or two! The waiting is absolutely brutal but at least we re'not alone in this mess.

I'm currently dealing with this exact situation too! Been stuck in adjudication for 6 weeks and just saw a second claim number pop up yesterday. Reading through everyone's experiences here is really reassuring - it sounds like this is actually a sign that someone is finally reviewing our cases rather than them just sitting in a pile somewhere. @Atticus Domingo - did you end up getting any updates since posting this? I'm hoping your case got resolved quickly after the second claim appeared. The waiting is absolutely nerve-wracking, especially when you're stressed about bills piling up. One thing I learned from calling around is that sometimes the second claim number appears when they need to verify specific eligibility requirements or when your case gets flagged for manual review (which isn't necessarily bad - could just mean they want to double-check something). The person I spoke with at my local WorkSource office said to keep filing weekly claims no matter what, and that the second number usually means you're in the final stages of review. Fingers crossed for all of us waiting - sounds like most people here got approved within 1-2 weeks after seeing that second claim number appear!

•@AstroAce Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm actually new to this community but going through the same nightmare - been in adjudication for about 3 weeks now and just saw a second claim number appear this morning. Finding this thread has been such a relief because I had no idea what it meant and was worried I'd somehow messed up my claim. It's reassuring to hear from so many people that this is actually a positive sign that someone is finally looking at our cases. The whole process is so stressful when you're already dealing with financial pressure. Definitely keeping up with my weekly certifications and job search requirements while I wait. Hope we all get good news soon!

I'm new to this community but going through the exact same situation! Been stuck in adjudication for about 5 weeks and just noticed a second claim number appeared in my account yesterday. I was honestly panicking when I first saw it because I thought maybe they had duplicated my claim or something went wrong with the system. Reading through everyone's experiences here is such a huge relief - it sounds like this is actually a good sign that our cases are finally getting reviewed rather than just sitting in limbo. The whole process is so opaque and stressful, especially when you're already dealing with financial pressure. I also contacted my state representative about 2 weeks ago, so the timing seems similar to what others have experienced. Going to keep doing my weekly certifications and job search activities while I wait for this to process. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences - it really helps to know we're not alone in this mess and that there might actually be light at the end of the tunnel! Fingers crossed we all get approved soon. 🤞
