Governor's office expedited my ESD adjudication but couldn't tell me WHY I'm in adjudication - normal?
I'm at my wit's end trying to figure out why our claim suddenly went into adjudication. After calling the ESD 78 times over three days with no luck (either busy signal or disconnected), I finally called the governor's office hoping they could give me answers. The lady at the governor's office said she could only 'expedite' our case but couldn't tell us WHY we're in adjudication because 'they don't have access to the system.' This seems weird - I thought they had some visibility into claims? We haven't received ANY letters explaining the adjudication reason. When I check the portal and click on 'upload document,' it mentions something about 'identity from September 2025' - but we uploaded ALL those documents right after filing our initial claim 3 weeks ago. Does this sound right about the governor's office? Has anyone had their claim expedited this way? And how long after 'expediting' did it take to get resolved? I'm panicking because rent is due next week...

•Ugh, 2 more weeks?? Did they at least resolve your issue when they finally called?

The governor's office staff are correct - they cannot access the actual ESD claim system. They can only submit expedite requests through a separate administrative channel. Only ESD adjudicators have access to the full details of your claim. The identity verification from September 2025 likely means there's a question about your identity documents. This is extremely common and usually happens when: 1. The name on your ID doesn't exactly match what's in the system 2. Your address has changed since your ID was issued 3. The quality of uploaded documents wasn't clear enough 4. There was a system glitch when processing your documents After an expedite request, it typically takes 7-10 business days for an adjudicator to contact you. Make sure all your contact information is current in your ESD account.

•Thanks for explaining! My driver's license did expire last month and I uploaded the new one, but maybe that's what triggered it? I'll double-check all my info in the system again.

I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM!!!! Identity verification from September put me in adjudication for almost 6 WEEKS!!! ESD is a JOKE. They say they need identity docs but don't tell you which ones and then you sit waiting forever!!!! The governor's office just sends emails that nobody reads!

•6 weeks?? I can't wait that long... Did you try anything else that worked to speed it up?

I went through this in January. The identity verification issue can be frustrating. Here's what worked for me after being in adjudication for 3 weeks: I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual ESD agent instead of waiting for them to call me. The service connected me to an agent in about 25 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The ESD agent was able to tell me exactly which document was causing the problem (in my case, my address on my ID didn't match my current address). Once I knew what was wrong, I uploaded the correct documents and my claim was processed within 48 hours.

•DOES THIS ACTUALLY WORK??? I'm going to try it right now! Anything is better than waiting another month!

The governor's office expedite process is legitimate but limited in what it can do. What you're experiencing is normal for how that process works. They essentially flag your claim for priority review, but they don't have access to the actual claims system - that's correct information. Regarding the identity verification issue from September 2025, that's most likely a system designation rather than actually meaning documents from that specific date. The ESD system often assigns standardized codes to different types of issues. In my experience helping claimants navigate these issues, identity verification adjudication typically takes 3-4 weeks even with an expedite request. Make sure you've uploaded ALL of these documents if you haven't already: 1. Front AND back of your ID/license 2. Social security card 3. Birth certificate or passport 4. A recent utility bill or bank statement showing your current address Even if you think you've uploaded everything, it doesn't hurt to upload them again. Sometimes files get corrupted in the system.

•I didn't upload the back of my license or a utility bill! Maybe that's the problem. I'll do that right now. Thank you for the detailed list!

i had similar thing happen to me last spring and nobody would tell me why i was in adjudication either. turns out my former employer was contesting my claim saying i quit (i didn't, they reduced my hours to basically nothing). but nobody told me for WEEKS until i finally got through on the phone. by that time i almost lost my apartment. the whole system is designed to be confusing and frustrating on purpose i swear

•Same happened to my brother. His boss said he quit but he was actually laid off. The system is rigged against workers and protects employers. Took him filing an appeal to finally get his money 9 weeks later!

To directly answer your question: Yes, this is normal. The governor's office liaison team can only expedite claims; they cannot access the ESD system or tell you why you're in adjudication. Their role is limited to flagging claims for priority review. Regarding the identity verification issue: This is currently the most common reason for adjudication. The September 2025 date is likely just when your identity verification expires in their system (they typically set it for 12 months from verification). Here's what you should do: 1. Make sure ALL identity documents are uploaded again (both sides of ID, SS card, proof of address) 2. Call ESD directly - the expedite request doesn't guarantee immediate action 3. Check your spam/junk folders for any ESD correspondence 4. If you uploaded docs via smartphone, try re-uploading via computer if possible (better image quality) In January 2025, ESD implemented a new identity verification system that has been causing many claims to be flagged for review. The average resolution time is currently 17-21 days even with expedite requests.

•Thank you for such a detailed explanation! I never thought to check my spam folder - just did and found a message from ESD requesting additional verification. Uploading everything again right now. This is so helpful!

Has your issue been resolved yet? It's been a few days since your post. If not, I really recommend trying to get through to an actual ESD agent rather than waiting. The governor's office expedite is helpful but still leaves you waiting without knowing what's happening.

•Finally got it resolved yesterday! After re-uploading all my documents (including the back of my ID which I missed before), I used Claimyr to reach an agent who confirmed they received everything. The agent removed the adjudication flag and my payment was processed this morning. Such a relief!
