Waited 11 weeks + Governor's office expedite still no ESD adjudication resolution

I'm about to lose my mind with this ESD adjudication wait. It's been 11 WEEKS now with my claim stuck in adjudication. After 8 weeks of seeing nothing happen, I contacted the governor's office on November 13 hoping they could help. They said they'd expedite my case, but it's been 26 days since that "expedite" and still nothing has changed! My online portal just shows the same status day after day. Has anyone else waited this long even after the governor's office supposedly "expedited" their claim? I keep calling them back and get the same robotic response: "your case is being worked on, please be patient." Well, I've BEEN patient for almost 3 months now! I'm behind on rent and utilities. My landlord has been surprisingly understanding so far, but I can tell their patience is wearing thin. I don't blame them - they've got bills too. I'm at the end of my rope here. No income for 3 months while bills keep piling up is not sustainable. How is this legal? What else can I possibly do at this point?

Unfortunately, this is way too common in 2025. The "expedite" from the governor's office often doesn't mean much these days because they're overwhelmed with requests. I waited 10 weeks after my "expedite" before my adjudication finally cleared. What worked for me was contacting my state representative and senator. They have dedicated ESD liaisons who seem to have more direct access than the governor's office staff. Look up who represents your district and email both offices explaining your situation, including that you've already tried the governor's office route with no success. Include your claim ID and contact info and explicitly ask them to intervene on your behalf with ESD.

Thank you for the suggestion. I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. Did you email both your rep and senator at the same time? Did you have to provide any special documentation when you contacted them?

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS RIGGED!!!! I waited 14 WEEKS and only got movement when I threatened legal action!!! Governor's office is USELESS - just a PR front to make it look like they care. They "expedite" hundreds of claims a day which means NOTHING actually gets expedited!!!!! It's all smoke and mirrors while they hope you'll just give up and go away.

I understand your frustration, but threatening legal action can sometimes backfire and add more delays if your case gets flagged for legal review. What type of legal action did you threaten specifically? Did you have an attorney assist you with this approach?

Have you tried calling ESD directly through Claimyr? After 9 weeks of waiting, I used claimyr.com to get through to a real person at ESD. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. I was skeptical, but I got through to an actual claims specialist in about 20 minutes when I had been trying for weeks with no success. The agent was able to look at my adjudication and push it through that same day after seeing how long I'd been waiting. Worth a try since even the governor's office isn't helping in your case.

I've never heard of Claimyr before. Does it actually work to get you through to real ESD staff? I've wasted so many hours on hold only to get disconnected. At this point I'd try anything that might help.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Please contact your local housing authority immediately - there are emergency housing resources available even if you don't have income right now. Also, depending on your area, you might have had tenant rights that were violated if you didn't receive proper eviction notices. Local legal aid can help with this, they typically offer free services for people in your situation.

Unemployment adjudicator here (not for WA but another state with similar processes). Let me provide some insight on what might be happening: 1) "Expedited" usually just means moving your case higher in the queue, not immediate processing 2) The most common reason for lengthy adjudications are employer disputes or identity verification issues 3) Check your ESD online account and messages - is there anything they've requested from you that you haven't provided? 4) The system often doesn't notify you properly when they need additional information Here's what I recommend: 1) Call ESD directly (using a service like others mentioned if needed) and specifically ask if there are ANY outstanding items needed for your claim 2) Contact your state representatives as suggested above 3) Document every contact attempt with dates and names 4) If you have any documentation related to your separation from employment that you haven't submitted yet, upload it proactively Also, while waiting, make sure you're still filing your weekly claims even if they're not paying out yet. Once adjudication is complete, you'll only be paid for weeks you properly certified.

Thank you for this detailed response! I've been filing my weekly claims religiously, so at least I'm doing that right. There's nothing in my ESD inbox requesting information, which is what makes this so frustrating - I have no idea what's causing the hold up. I'll try to get through to ask specifically about outstanding items. Do you know if identity verification issues would show somewhere in my account, or could that be happening behind the scenes without me knowing?

I had almost the exact same situation last year!!!! Waited 12 weeks with adjudication, called governors office after week 9, and then waited another 5 weeks after the "expedite" before my claim was fixed. So frustrating. What worked for me was finding the direct email format for ESD employees (usually firstname.lastname@esd.wa.gov) and emailing several managers I found on LinkedIn who worked in the adjudication department. Not saying you should do this, but within 2 days of my emails, my claim was suddenly processed. Just saying...

I'd be careful with this approach. While it sometimes works, ESD has cracked down on people directly emailing staff, and some claimants have reported having their claims flagged for additional review after trying to circumvent the normal channels. It could help, but it might also backfire.

I'm currently an adjudicator with ESD and want to provide some context that might help. First, I want to acknowledge how frustrating this wait must be - it's not acceptable, and we know that. The truth is, in 2025 we're still dealing with staffing shortages in the adjudication department. The "expedite" from the governor's office does prioritize your claim, but it enters a priority queue that unfortunately still has hundreds of cases. Common reasons for extended adjudication periods: - Your former employer disputed your eligibility/reason for separation - There are wages from multiple states that need verification - There are potential overpayments from previous claims being investigated - System flags for potential identity verification (even if you've submitted documents) My advice: 1. When you call, specifically ask: "Is there any information missing from my claim that's causing the delay?" and "What specific issue is under adjudication?" 2. Request to speak to a claims center supervisor (not all agents will transfer you, but some will) 3. Utilize the hardship escalation process - explicitly state that you're facing eviction The legislative route others have mentioned is also effective - legislative inquiries do receive special handling and often move faster than governor's office referrals.

OF COURSE the ESD employee shows up to defend the broken system!!! If you know it's "not acceptable" then WHY IS IT HAPPENING??? Stop making excuses and FIX IT!!! People are losing homes and going hungry while bureaucrats hide behind "staffing shortages" - HIRE MORE PEOPLE!!!

My claim says "adjudication" too what does that even mean?? been 3 weeks now...

Adjudication means there's an issue with your claim that needs to be resolved before benefits can be paid. It could be something simple like verifying your last day of work, or more complex like investigating why you left your job. At 3 weeks, you're still within the normal timeframe for adjudication (though that doesn't make the wait any easier). Make sure you're still filing your weekly claims while you wait, and check your ESD account messages daily for any requests for information.

UPDATE: I took several of the suggestions here and finally got movement on my claim! I contacted my state representative yesterday morning with all my claim details and the history of my contact attempts. Their office responded within hours saying they'd contact their ESD liaison. This morning, I checked my account and the adjudication is COMPLETE! Benefits are being processed for all 11 weeks! Also, I did try the Claimyr service that someone recommended here - it actually worked to get me through to an ESD agent yesterday afternoon. The agent confirmed they could see the legislative inquiry had been received and that my claim was being actively reviewed. Not sure if it was the state rep contact, the Claimyr-facilitated call, or both that did the trick, but SOMETHING finally worked! Thank you all for the suggestions and support. To anyone else stuck in adjudication hell, don't give up - keep pushing through all available channels.

That's fantastic news! So glad to hear you'll be getting your back benefits. It's ridiculous it took that much effort, but at least you found a solution that worked. Good luck getting back on your feet!
