9 weeks in adjudication limbo - even Governor's office escalations failed

I'm about to lose my mind with this endless ESD waiting game! I've been stuck in adjudication for 9 WEEKS now with zero progress. I've done EVERYTHING - submitted all required documents (confirmed they were received), made countless calls to the regular ESD line (complete waste of time), and even called the Governor's office THREE separate times where I actually spoke to real humans who promised my case was "escalated." Yet here I am, still waiting with bills piling up and zero income. They keep confirming there's "nothing else I can do" but wait. Has anyone broken through this ridiculous bureaucratic wall? I'm calling the Governor's office again tomorrow, but I'm starting to think this is completely hopeless. Anyone successfully escape adjudication purgatory after multiple escalations failed?

I was stuck in adjudication for 7 weeks last year, and what finally worked was contacting my state representative's office. They have staff dedicated to helping constituents with state agencies like ESD. Look up your district and email or call your rep's office explaining the situation - be sure to include your claim ID number and contact details. My rep's office got ESD to review my claim within 48 hours after being stuck for nearly 2 months.

Thank you! I hadn't thought about contacting my state rep. Do you remember what information they needed besides the claim ID? I'm willing to try anything at this point.

have u tried calling right when they open??? thats what i did and got thru after only like 20 tries lol. the trick is to call at like 7:59am and keep redialing. worked 4 me after 6 weeks of waiting

I've tried calling at opening multiple times - either get the "call volume too high" message or end up waiting for 3+ hours only to get disconnected. It's maddening!

The escalation through the Governor's office often takes 2-3 weeks to process even after confirmation. Here's what I recommend: 1. File a formal complaint through the ESD website (not just a message) - this creates a trackable ticket 2. Contact your state representative AND state senator (both can help) 3. Document every communication with date, time, and who you spoke with 4. Continue filing your weekly claims without fail during this process 5. Check your ESD account for any new questionnaires or document requests daily If you were put in adjudication for a specific reason (employer dispute, availability issues, etc.), that information can help us give more specific advice. Some adjudication types take longer than others.

Thank you for such detailed advice. I wasn't told specifically why I'm in adjudication, just that it's "standard procedure" for my type of claim (regular UI after being laid off). I'll definitely file a formal complaint - I didn't know that was different from sending messages through my account.

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN BY DESIGN!!!! They hope you'll give up and go away. I waited 11 WEEKS last year and only got resolved when I threatened legal action in writing. They don't care about regular people at all. The whole "escalation" thing is just to make you feel better while they ignore you.

This isn't helpful. The system is overwhelmed, not malicious. I've worked with plenty of people who got their issues resolved without legal threats.

Oh really? Then why do people have to call GOVERNORS just to get unemployment they're entitled to?? Wake up!

I was stuck for 8 weeks in adjudication and was going crazy trying to reach ESD directly. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an actual agent in under 15 minutes! They have a service that navigates ESD's phone system for you and calls you back when they have an agent on the line. I was super skeptical but you can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent I reached was able to see that my adjudication was just sitting there waiting for review and pushed it through to a supervisor. Got my determination letter 3 days later.

I've never heard of this service before! Did you actually get a real ESD agent? I'm willing to try anything at this point as long as it actually works.

Yes, it connects you with a real ESD agent - they just handle the waiting/holding part. When my phone rang, there was an actual ESD employee ready to help. Made a huge difference having a real person look at my claim.

I'm currently in week 6 of adjudication so I feel your pain! Have you checked if there are any alerts or messages in your eServices account that might be causing the delay? Sometimes they need additional information but the notification gets buried in the system. Also, are you on regular UI or some special category?

I've checked my account obsessively - no alerts, no messages, no requests for documents. It's regular UI after being laid off from my accounting job. The frustrating part is they keep confirming they have everything they need, but still nothing happens!

That's so frustrating! I'm in the same boat - everything submitted but still waiting. Let me know if anything works for you and I'll do the same. This waiting game is the absolute worst.

Based on your description, it sounds like you might be caught in what ESD calls a "cross-match" adjudication, which happens when there's any discrepancy between your application and employer records. These unfortunately take the longest to resolve (8-12 weeks is common) because they require input from both parties. One thing that sometimes works is having your former employer contact ESD directly about your claim. If they verify there's no dispute on their end, it can speed things up significantly. Do you have any contact in HR from your previous job who might be willing to help?

That's a great suggestion! I'm still on good terms with my former supervisor and our HR director. I'll reach out to them tomorrow to see if they can contact ESD. Honestly wouldn't have thought of that approach - thank you!

after i waited 5 weeks i went to my local WorkSource office in person and talked to someone there. they couldnt fix it directly but they had a direct line to someone at esd who could look at my claim. worth a try if theres an office near you.

This is excellent advice! Many people don't realize that WorkSource offices can sometimes help with UI issues. While they can't directly adjust claims, they often have better communication channels with ESD than the general public. Not all offices offer this assistance, but it's definitely worth calling your local WorkSource to ask.

my cousin works for esd (not in claims tho) and she says they have MASSIVE backlog still from all the system updates they did in January. like thousands of claims just sitting in queues. its not just you!!

That's somewhat comforting to know it's not just me, but also terrifying that there are thousands of us stuck in this situation. You'd think they'd staff up appropriately when doing system updates!

Update on my earlier advice: After you contact your state representatives, make sure you sign a privacy release form they'll send you. They can't intervene with ESD on your behalf without this authorization. Also, when you speak with the Governor's office again, ask specifically for a "direct escalation to adjudication supervisor review" - this specific language sometimes triggers a different process than a standard escalation. Lastly, continue filing your weekly claims without fail. When your adjudication is eventually resolved (and it will be), you'll only be paid for weeks you properly certified.

Thank you for the follow-up. I'll definitely use that exact phrasing with the Governor's office tomorrow. And yes, I've been religious about filing my weekly claims, even though it feels pointless sometimes. I'm just worried about running out of savings before this gets resolved.
