Waiting 7 weeks in adjudication - when to contact governor's office for ESD claim help?
I'm at my wit's end with my unemployment claim. It's been stuck in adjudication for almost 7 weeks now with ZERO communication from ESD. I've called the claims center at least 25 times (no exaggeration) and either get disconnected or told they can't help speed things up. I've uploaded all requested documents and responded to every alert in my eServices account. My savings are completely gone and I'm about to miss my second rent payment. I've heard some people have contacted the governor's office to get their claims expedited when they're in dire situations. Has anyone actually done this? How long should I reasonably wait before trying this approach? Is there a specific number or email I should use? Or is there something else I should try first? Thanks for any advice!

I was in a similar situation last month - stuck in adjudication for 9 weeks! I tried everything before contacting the governor's office. First, make sure you've sent a secure message through your eServices account specifically asking about the adjudication timeline. I'd also recommend contacting your state representatives (not just the governor). You can find them here: https://app.leg.wa.gov/districtfinder/ My claim finally moved forward 5 days after I emailed my state rep. They seem to have direct channels to ESD that regular claimants don't.

•Thank you! I've sent messages through eServices but only got automated responses. I'll definitely try contacting my state rep today. Did you email or call them? And did you need to provide lots of personal details?

Before reaching out to the governor's office, I would suggest trying these steps in this specific order: 1. Call ESD during non-peak hours (try Wednesday or Thursday around 3-4pm) 2. Contact your state representative (they often have staff dedicated to helping with ESD issues) 3. File a formal complaint through the ESD website 4. Request an official escalation through the claims center 5. THEN contact the governor's office if all else fails I'm an employment counselor, and I've found the state representative route is actually more effective than the governor's office in many cases. The key is documenting all your contact attempts - dates, times, who you spoke with. This creates a paper trail showing you've made reasonable efforts. Also, make sure your work search activities are still being reported weekly even while in adjudication. Many claimants don't realize this is required, which can cause additional delays.

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I haven't been documenting my calls as specifically as I should. I've definitely been keeping up with my work search activities though. I'll try the Wednesday afternoon call tomorrow and then reach out to my representative if that doesn't work.

The entire system is DESIGNED to frustrate you into giving up!!! I waited 11 weeks before my adjudication was complete and never got a single response to my messages. Don't waste time with their "proper channels" - they don't work! Go straight to your representatives AND the governor's office. The more noise you make, the faster they'll deal with your claim. Be the squeaky wheel!

Have you tried using Claimyr to get through to an actual ESD agent? I was stuck in adjudication for weeks and couldn't get through on the phone no matter when I called. A friend recommended Claimyr (claimyr.com) and I was skeptical, but it actually worked. They have this system that waits on hold for you and calls you back when an agent is available. I watched their demo video (https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3) and decided to try it. Once I got through to a real person, I was able to find out exactly why my claim was delayed (they were missing verification from my previous employer) and what I needed to do to fix it. Sometimes just talking to the right person can make all the difference before escalating to the governor's office.

•I hadn't heard of this service before. I'll check out the video. At this point I'm willing to try anything that might help me talk to an actual person!

my claim was stuck for 12 weeks last year and i called everyday but nothin helped. i think its just random when they get to your claim honestly. some people wait 3 weeks some wait 3 months its like a lottery

•It's NOT random - it's about who complains the loudest and to the right people. The squeaky wheel gets the grease with ESD. I've been through this THREE TIMES with them!!!

I went through this earlier this year. Seven weeks isn't unusual unfortunately. I know it's frustrating but you might want to wait at least 8-10 weeks before contacting the governor's office. The standard response you'll get is that they forward your information to ESD's escalation team, which is the same thing your state representative would do. In my experience, going through your state representative is more effective.

•Thanks for the perspective. It helps to know what's "normal" even if it's frustrating. I'm going to try my state rep first based on everyone's advice.

Just to follow up on my earlier comment - when you email your state representative, include: 1. Your full name 2. Your claim ID 3. Contact information 4. Brief timeline of your claim and contacts with ESD 5. Mention any financial hardship (rent, utilities, etc) They need this information to help you effectively. Be concise but complete. And keep sending in those weekly claims while you wait!

•WorkSource offices can help with some basic UI questions, but they generally don't have direct access to adjudication cases. They're separate from the ESD claims team. They might be able to help with job search activities or general guidance, but for adjudication issues, you need to reach the claims specialists directly.

UPDATE: I want to thank everyone for the great advice! I followed the suggestions here and have some progress to report. I tried calling during the recommended off-peak hours but still couldn't get through. However, I sent a detailed email to my state representative yesterday afternoon with all the information suggested, and this morning I received a response saying they've contacted ESD on my behalf! They said to expect an update within 5-7 business days. I'll post again when I hear more, but wanted to thank you all for the guidance. This community has been more helpful than any official ESD resource.

•That's great news! The 5-7 day timeline is pretty standard for these escalations. In my experience, they usually stick to it since it's now being tracked. Hang in there!
