ESD adjudication stuck since March - need Gov office number to expedite claim
I've been pulling my hair out waiting for my unemployment claim to process! Filed on March 12th and it's been sitting in adjudication for almost 7 weeks now. My savings are basically gone and rent is coming up fast. I keep seeing comments from people who somehow got their claims expedited by contacting the Governor's office, but nobody ever shares the actual process or number to call. Can anyone who's successfully done this PLEASE share: - The number you called - What exactly you said to get them to help - How long it took after you contacted them I've called ESD about 40 times but just get the 'high call volume' message and disconnected. I've sent messages through the portal but zero response. Getting desperate here and would really appreciate any help!

•It's so frustrating! Have you tried contacting your state representative? I'm thinking about trying that next but not sure if it actually works.

The number for the Governor's Office is (360) 902-4111. When you call, you need to politely explain your financial hardship in detail - be specific about bills you can't pay, risk of eviction, etc. They took my info and said they'd forward it to ESD's escalation team. My claim was approved 8 days later after being stuck for 6 weeks. Make sure to have your claim ID ready when you call. They might also ask for the date you filed and when it went into adjudication.

•THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I'm going to call them first thing tomorrow morning. Did they tell you what the issue was that was holding up your claim?

I had a similar situation in January and found that the most effective approach is actually contacting your district's state representatives rather than the Governor's office directly. They have staff dedicated to helping constituents with state agency issues like ESD claims. Find your representatives here: https://app.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/ Email or call their office explaining: 1. Your claim ID number 2. When you filed 3. How long it's been in adjudication 4. What attempts you've made to resolve it 5. The financial hardship you're experiencing In my case, my claim was resolved within 5 business days after my representative's office contacted ESD. They seem to have direct channels to escalation teams that we don't have access to as individuals.

•I can second this! My claim was stuck for 9 weeks in adjudication due to an employer dispute. I contacted my state rep and miraculously got a call from an ESD supervisor within 48 hours. They expedited my interview and approved my claim the following week. The system is ridiculous - you literally CANNOT get through by following the normal channels these days.

I was in adjudication for almost 2 months and got nowhere with regular ESD calls. I tried Claimyr.com and actually got through to a real person at ESD who explained what was holding up my claim and scheduled an adjudication interview for me. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 That said, I also contacted my state rep as a backup plan, and I'm not sure which one actually got things moving faster. Either way, my claim was resolved about a week later.

•is this legit? sounds kinda scammy tbh

•It's definitely legit - they just help you get through the phone system to an actual ESD agent. Was worth it for me after wasting hours trying to call on my own.

•Thanks for the tip! I'll check out both options. At this point I'm willing to try anything to get this resolved.

As a former ESD employee, I can tell you that contacting the Governor's office or your state rep DOES work, but there's a specific reason why. When those offices forward your case, it gets flagged in the system as a "legislative inquiry" which automatically puts it into a priority queue. However, there are some things you should know: 1. The issue causing adjudication still needs to be resolved - expediting just moves you up in line 2. If there's missing information or an employer dispute, you'll still need to complete an interview 3. COVID backlog is mostly cleared, but they're still understaffed for the current claim volume 4. Make sure your phone contact info is correct in the system - many claims stay stuck because adjudicators can't reach claimants 5. Check your Secure Message Center daily - sometimes they request info there instead of calling The standard adjudication timeframe these days should be 3-4 weeks. Anything over 5 weeks definitely warrants escalation through your representative.

•This is incredibly helpful information! I've been checking my Secure Message Center daily and there's nothing there requesting information. My phone info is definitely correct in the system. I think I'll try both the Governor's office and my state rep tomorrow. Really appreciate the insider perspective.

•That's awful! But it really does depend on your claim circumstances. My first claim went through in 2 weeks with no issues. My second one (after a temporary job ended) got stuck in adjudication because my employer contested it. That's when I had to use the Governor's office to get movement.

One thing nobody mentioned - if your claim is in adjudication, make absolutely sure you're still filing your weekly claims on time! If you miss weekly claims during the adjudication period, even if you eventually get approved, you won't get paid for those missed weeks. I learned this the hard way and lost out on about $2,800 because I thought "what's the point of filing if I'm still in adjudication?" Big mistake.

•Yes, definitely still filing my weekly claims! Thanks for the reminder though - that would be devastating to miss out on backpay after all this waiting.
