Need Governor's office phone number to escalate ESD claim issues
I've had my unemployment claim stuck in adjudication for almost 7 weeks now with ZERO progress. I call ESD daily but can't get a human, and none of my messages are being returned. I'm at my wit's end and about to lose my apartment. I heard that contacting the Governor's office can sometimes help when ESD is completely ignoring you. Does anyone have that number? Has anyone actually had success going this route? I'm desperate at this point.

The Governor's office number is 360-902-4111. But honestly, you might want to try your state representative first - they often have staff dedicated to helping constituents with ESD issues. You can find your rep at leg.wa.gov by entering your address. When I was stuck in adjudication hell for 5 weeks, my rep's office actually got things moving within 3 days of contacting them.

•Thank you SO MUCH! I'll try the governor but will definitely reach out to my state rep too. I didn't even think about that. I'm in district 38 I think. Did you just call or email them?

I tried the governors office after 9 WEEKS of waiting!!!!! nothing happened. just another voice mail black hole imo. the whole system is RIGGED to make us give up on benefits we EARNED. they just hope we'll go away if they ignore us long enough!!

•While the system is definitely frustrating, I've found that persistence through multiple channels is key. The Governor's office can help in certain situations, but they receive thousands of requests. For fastest results, try your state representative AND state senator simultaneously. They have direct channels to ESD liaisons that regular claimants don't have access to.

I was in a similar situation last month and was getting desperate. I tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes after weeks of trying myself. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent I spoke with was able to see that my claim had a simple verification flag that was holding everything up, and she fixed it on the spot. Honestly worth checking out if you're in a time crunch with rent coming up.

•The Office of the Unemployment Insurance Ombuds can definitely help with complex issues. Their contact information is: Phone: 1-844-395-6697 Email: ombuds@esd.wa.gov Website: esd.wa.gov/ombuds They're particularly helpful if you've already tried working with ESD directly and aren't getting resolution. They can sometimes untangle confusing situations or help with communication breakdowns.

My adjudication took 11 weeks back in January. It was a nightmare. I ended up having to take out a personal loan to cover bills while waiting. When I finally got through to someone, turned out they were missing a document I'd already submitted twice. The whole system is broken...

•This happens so often! One tip: when you submit documents to ESD, always take screenshots of the confirmation page and note the date/time. I had a similar issue and was able to prove I had submitted the required documents by showing the confirmation screens. The agent was able to locate the "lost" documents once I gave them the exact submission times.

I recommend a multi-pronged approach for ESD adjudication issues: 1. Contact your state representatives AND senator (find them at leg.wa.gov) 2. File a request with the Unemployment Insurance Ombuds Office 3. Send a detailed email to the Governor's Office with your claim ID and specific timeline 4. Continue filing your weekly claims without interruption 5. Document EVERYTHING - all calls, emails, letters I've helped several people get unstuck using this method. The key is persistence and escalating through multiple channels simultaneously. Make sure to include your claim ID, last 4 of SSN, and contact info in EVERY communication.

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I'm going to start on all of these tomorrow morning. I've been filing my weekly claims religiously even though nothing's being paid. Do you think it's worth mentioning the potential eviction in these communications? I'm really worried about that at this point.

Yes, absolutely mention the pending eviction in your communications. This can help prioritize your case as many offices have protocols for urgent housing insecurity issues. Be specific about your timeline ("rent due on X date" or "eviction notice received on Y date"). Also, while you're waiting for ESD resolution, please contact your local housing authority or 211 to ask about emergency rental assistance programs that might help bridge the gap.

•Thank you so much for all this help, everyone. I'm feeling a bit more hopeful now with all these different options to try. I'll start with my state rep first thing tomorrow, then work through the other contacts. Really appreciate you all taking the time to share your experiences and advice.

I went through something similar last year and what finally worked for me was contacting the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee (JLARC) at 360-786-5171. They're doing ongoing oversight of ESD and actually track these cases. When I called them about my 8-week adjudication delay, they forwarded my info to ESD leadership and I got a call back within 2 days. It's worth adding to your list along with the other suggestions here. Also, if you haven't already, make sure to check if there's a "fact-finding" questionnaire in your eServices account that might be sitting there unanswered - that's what was holding up my claim and nobody told me it was there.

•This is great advice about JLARC! I had no idea they tracked ESD cases like that. And yes, definitely check for those hidden fact-finding questionnaires - I've heard from so many people who had stuff sitting in their account that they never knew about. @Aaliyah Jackson make sure to log into eServices and look under every single tab, sometimes those questionnaires are buried in weird places. The combination of JLARC + state reps + ombuds office should hopefully get some movement on your case!

I'm so sorry you're going through this - 7 weeks in adjudication with potential eviction is absolutely terrifying. I just went through a similar nightmare that lasted 9 weeks, so I completely understand the desperation. A few additional thoughts to add to all the excellent advice already given: When you contact your state rep, ask specifically to speak with their "constituent services" staff - they're usually the ones who handle ESD cases. Also, if you're comfortable sharing, consider posting about your situation on social media and tagging @WAStateESD - sometimes public pressure helps move things along faster. One thing that helped me was keeping a detailed log of every single interaction attempt (date, time, method of contact, reference numbers if any). When I finally got through to someone, having that timeline really helped them understand the severity of the delay. Also, please don't give up on the weekly claim filings - I know it feels pointless when nothing's happening, but once your case gets resolved, you'll get all that back pay. Hang in there, and keep us posted on how the state rep contact goes!

•This is all such helpful advice! I'm definitely going to start documenting everything better - I wish I had been keeping a log from the beginning. The social media idea is interesting too, I hadn't thought of that. I'm usually pretty private but at this point I'm willing to try anything. Thank you for the encouragement about not giving up on the weekly filings, it really does feel pointless right now but you're right about the back pay. I'll update everyone once I start making these calls tomorrow. Fingers crossed something works!

I'm really sorry you're dealing with this nightmare - being stuck in adjudication for 7 weeks with rent hanging over your head is absolutely awful. I went through something similar last fall and what finally broke things loose was a combination approach. First, definitely try your state representative like others mentioned - their constituent services teams often have direct lines to ESD supervisors. But also consider reaching out to local news outlets, especially if you have a good story about the impact this is having on your life. I contacted my local TV station's consumer advocacy reporter and they ended up doing a story about ESD delays. Within a week of the story airing, I had three different ESD managers calling me. Also, when you do get through to someone (and you will eventually), ask them to put notes in your file about the urgency due to housing instability. Sometimes that can flag your case for faster processing. One more tip - if you have any documentation about your separation from your job (termination letter, resignation email, etc.), make sure that's uploaded to your account. A lot of adjudications get held up over missing separation documents even when the issue seems unrelated. Keep fighting - the system is broken but persistence through multiple channels usually pays off eventually. We're all rooting for you!
